Same as me Alan I'm not too keen on boats closing up behind me not sure why maybe I'm too slow? but I always feel I'm holding them up 😁 so pull in the same as you did and let them by and yes it's the gentlemanly thing to do imo👍
@MyNarrowboatVenture3 жыл бұрын
I know other boaters who are the same, we just don't like being followed but it is unavoidable at times! I'm always happy to let boats pass, providing it is safe to do so and there's no or little risk of grounding.

Love the last shot of the sky you captured Alan! Wonderful weather indeed. You had quite a few boaters who joined you on this stretch of canal! Good on you letting the rest past you. I would feel less stress not having another boater behind me. Like to enjoy the journey leisurely. Great vlog Alan. Have a great week ahead. Catch you later! Take care! 🍀☘️🌼🌸🌺🌹

Thank you so much Madeline, it was a lovely day and finished well. I don't like being followed, I often let boats pass me. Some will come up close behind, if they want to pass, it's just finding somewhere suitable to allow them to do so. Thanks for your good wishes, I hope you also have a good week x

Nice one Alan that’s the first time I have herd of a kinky tunnel calm down tiger lol looks so peaceful where you are keep well Alan cheers 🙂🦢🦢✌️
@MyNarrowboatVenture3 жыл бұрын
Hi Lee. Tunnels tended to be built in sections and then opened up into the next section and this causes some slight out of alignment but it doesn't affect a boat travelling through in the centre. However, it could cause a problem when two boats meet on a kink, boaters will understand that. Cheers

Morning Alan, what a lovely stretch of canal, and such a lovely day for a cruise, beautiful. There were some really misty lovely shots at the beginning, beautiful photography. I must say that the wash that the first boat left behind it, as you let it pass you at the end of the video, suggested to me that it was travelling much too quickly... really a silly speed. Cheers for the journey Alan.. 🍷🍷
@MyNarrowboatVenture3 жыл бұрын
Many thanks for your lovely comment Steve. I can't create that sort of wash from my boat! He might just have sped up to move on past me, as he and the second boat were travelling together. All the best, take care.

Lovely as always. So nice to see blue sky . Its a bit dreich here in Scotland this morning but the autumn colours in the trees help . I had a good canal holiday at the end of September , Swanley to Grindley and back. Just a Tuesday to Saturday short break . Got soaked a few times but worth it.

If I ever took a boat through a long tunnel I would always hope that the tunnel was unexciting. Excitement in a tunnel sounds pretty terrifying to me....👍👍👍👍👍

Evening Alan, what a smashing vlog, and what a difference the sun makes! Two comments if I may, firstly, the quality of the video recording really is first-class, crystal clear and secondly, once again, we can see the narrowboat commardery in action, wonderful to see. One last question, where the reed-beds encroach on the canal, does it become a hazard? I understand that the CRT would be reluctant to cut it back because of the environment . As usual, stay safe. Cheers.
@MyNarrowboatVenture3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your great comment Martin, much appreciated. Covid has prevented much cutting back, which is usually done in the winter period. The reeds can narrow the width of the canal and obscure vision but there are many other things that obscure vision as well. I do believe there will be cutting back this year, but where, when and what I don't yet know. Cheers, take care.

Thanks for taking us along with you Alan. Another nice vlog weather on your side for a change. Don’t blame you for pulling over to let the other boats pass why should you rush. It was nice of the gentleman to ask if you were okay and not broken down. Are two boats able to pass each other in the tunnel? Take care stay safe and well looking forward to the next part of your journey.
@MyNarrowboatVenture3 жыл бұрын
Many thanks for your comment Shamus. Most tunnels can accommodate boats passing each other, such as here. If that's not possible, entry to a tunnel has to be managed, to prevent boats meeting inside. So some tunnels have timed entries to avoid any incidents. All the best, take care.

Very busy with boat movements compared to last vlog. That really was narrow in the Reed section. Such beautiful weather it must have made the cruise. Was that tunnel 2 way traffic or only wide enough for you? I was thinking if it was only wide enough for you , maybe you could have gone through your boat to adjust the lamp . Have a good week Alan, thanks for the vlog
@MyNarrowboatVenture3 жыл бұрын
Hi Paul, thanks for your comment. It was a lovely day for cruising. Most tunnels take two way traffic, where a tunnel is only wide enough for a single boat, entry would have to be managed, to stop boats meeting in the middle. So yes it is two way traffic. All the best, take care.

I've noticed in quite a few different vlogs that the weeds seem to be clogging the canals . Isn't the CRT cutting/cleaning them ?? Some look to be almost impossible to get thru . Luv your vlogs and STAY SAFE

Thank you very much Michael. Cutting back tends to be done in the winter months. With the covid situation, there have been fewer cutting parties because of working in close proximity. Be interesting to see what happens this year. Cheers

Hi Alan. You always seem to be eating cold foods...a banana or a cheese top roll....what else do you eat....because you seem to be very fit ?.
@MyNarrowboatVenture3 жыл бұрын
Hi Roger, that's well spotted. I am a fussy eater, there's much I don't like, either through taste or texture, pasta is a good example. I often eat cold in the evenings too and occasionally hot, I'm not wasting away and I suppose my tastes would be considered boring by many. I'm more of a desserts sort of fella! Cheers

Windy to start but the day ended for you in a calmer state... question about the tunnel light... should it be angled slightly down or slightly up.... we have just fitted a new one to our boat but as yet have not been able to test it in a tunnel.... xx
@MyNarrowboatVenture3 жыл бұрын
Hi Lynette. It will partly depend on where the light is mounted on the boat. Assuming it is at or about roof level, I would say angled slightly up, as it does help you see where you're going. Angled down, would be of less help, especially for me as I do not have good forward vision. It's getting the angle right when not in a tunnel that is the difficulty. Mine was way off, which I was very surprised about. If you're blinding an oncoming boater they will certainly let you know! All the best xx
