A Southerner's perspective is that the snow isn't the problem, it's the cold temperatures. That much snow would cause a run on milk and bread the day before and then once it started snowing, we close everything except the hospitals and the liquor stores. We might even cancel school before it starts snowing just so the busses and children are all safe at home. 2-3" of snow and we all enjoy a day off of school and work and the next day it is 45 degrees and it all melts. If yo want to laugh, what people in a large Southern city like Atlanta or Dallas try to drive home in the snow. A wrecker driver's dream.
@InTheWoodyard3 жыл бұрын
Yes I imagine it causes panic in the south, for us it just means you got to get up and get it done so you can get to work as soon as you can.When we get it, it stays for 5 months!

Hi Chris - it's Big Rodders in Ireland. I managed to finally get out of the forest without your Bro dropping a tree on me! I have two "Thoughts for the Day" for you, one a repeat. First, I consider you would find a back pack blower very useful around the yard for a myriad of chores, not least the snow. For a relatively low capital outlay and minimal maintenance, you would quickly find it indispensable. Second, I am surprised that nobody has invented a one seat trailer to link on to the back of a snowblower to make the chore easier and perhaps quicker. It wouldn't take much to knock one up. Now Back to Splitting!!
@InTheWoodyard3 жыл бұрын
Rodders, how much heavy wet deep sticky snow do you get over there across the pond? No one around here uses a back pack blower for snow removal unless the snow is a light dry kind of snow and only then on side walks. For parking lots and long driveways a plow or snow blower is the way. Thanks for the ideas though, it keeps me thinking!
@rodneysweetnam86533 жыл бұрын
@@InTheWoodyard Chris - Big Rodders again. Domestic snow blowers are an alien concept in this part of the world, and although parts of England are snowed in at present the thaw generally sets in within days. My thinking is that the back pack blower wouldn't replace your machine but would augment it. It could be useful to blow snow off your log piles prior to bucking and also your split piles. For the rest of the year it would be ideal for general tidying up. My blower will blow half a red brick across the yard. Whatever you do, don't buy a tractor just to run a snow blower - that would be an extravagance too far!

Chris...It looked like you may have done this once or twice before! Get yourself an Echo PB-9010 backpack blower (most powerful backpack blower out there) and you can clean your wood piles in no time. I've got a PB-770T (baby brother) and use it to "shovel" my sidewalk and driveway. Much quicker than a shovel and has a whole lot more use to me than a snowblower. Use it for cleaning people's yards of sawdust, leaves, etc when we take down trees. Way to keep the channel intesting!

Ya, plowing is not the way to go, snowblower is the only answer. It removes the snow and have no banks to worry about. Plowing builds banks, and the banks get bigger with each snow, and you could run out of room to push the snow. My father always said, ya gotta have some where to put the next storm, If it was me with that wood yard, I would like to have a subcompact tractor with a loader and rear mount snowblower. Snow removal would be a little faster and the added benefit of having the loader. To me, I think it would be use full. And I know what your thinking, and your right, it would cost a lot of money to get that. And the maintenance costs would be up. But I think the loader would be a great asset to a wood yard. Just my thinking. And you sure don’t need the exercise from walking behind the snowblower, and not making any money doing it. Just my thoughts for today and you have a good one.

Great video! Last year I got to try out my new Toro Power Max HD 1232. Didn't have any big snowfalls last year, but in early March we got hit with 6 inches of extremely wet heavy snow. It was the worst snow I ever had to snow blow. My single stage wheels I use on the back deck were so packed with snow the wheels were completely useless. The snow even packed on the tires of the Toro two stage. Luckly, it fell off quickly. Now how did the 1232 do in that wet stuff? I was not expecting the machine to throw that heavy wet snow as far as it did, over 50 feet. In the hour I was blowing the wet snow, not one time did it even hint of clogging. The patented anti clog system Toro uses works really well. The quick stick shoot control takes a bit of time to get the hang of, but once you master it, it works extremely well. Sense my property I snow blow is so uneven in many places, I opted to go with a machine with trigger steering verses one with auto steer. Auto steer works great in perfect conditions, but for me I needed a machine with fixed axles until I decide otherwise. Pulling both triggers makes moving the big machine around in the garage a breeze. Looking forward to seeing what this winter will bring as far as snow fall goes. The Toro Power Max and Power Max HD snow blowers move snow extremely well. The dealer close to me sells and services Toro brand power equipment. That made it easy to go with a Toro snow blower.

For in the wood yard where would I push the snow to, it is a circle with wood all around on both sides? I would have to redesign the wood stack layout. And piles of snow take up a lot of space I don't have. A tractor with a bucket would be good to move snow from one spot to another though!

You must live in an area that snow melts and is gone in the winter. Here snow can add up and eventually get 2 feet deep so if you leave it, in a day you could get 12 more inches and the you have 14 to remove. it also could melt down and turn to 1/2" of ice also. So yes everyone here removes it asap.
