Glad to find this comment. I got my barreled upper with a 1:7 before I understood the effect of twist rate, and I was concerned it would be too fast for 22 plinking. What 22lr ammo are you getting the best results with?

I have a 1:9 and I’m getting it mainly for close target practice to save 556 ammo. But it would be cool if it works well enough for small game too.
@jorgeo41643 жыл бұрын
I got two of these for both my AR's. My wife loves it because the rifle has zero kick, however, after shooting your 22LR rounds, I recommend shooting a few 556 rounds to clean out your rifle because the 22LR rounds really dirty up your rifle.
@bwalters97622 ай бұрын
You should just clean the whole rifle internal system after shooting 22lr through it. I wouldn’t actually run 556 through it after as you could compact carbon into your barrel grooves. At least run a snake with some clip through the barrel first. Think of it like a car, just because it’s been 100,000 miles since you changed the oil and it’s still running. Doesn’t mean it’s good! Same with your rifle. Just because it’s still shooting doesn’t mean your not damaging or prematurely wearing parts. For instance. I used to clean my guns after every time I took them shooting. And then one day I decided to see just how long I could not clean it and if anything happened. It all worked well until the gas rings on my bcg disintegrated from carbon build up and wear. I wanted a new bcg anyways but like I told a gun smith and he said “In 30 years, in and out of the military and multiple combat deployments and I never saw that happen” now I’m back to constantly cleaning my shit lol.

Cci standard is an exelent round, most accurate out of all my 22's and great suppressed. Also you would think the higher velocity would be better with the lower twist in a 5.56 barrel at about half the rate as 22lr barrells. Great vid!
@mdees883 жыл бұрын
Slower heavier bullets work better in AR barrels. I think you're confusing lower and slower. Normal 22lr barrel twist is 1:16" meaning the bullet travels 16" to make one full rotation. Standard NATO 5.56 (.223) barrel twist is 1:7" meaning bullet travels 7" to make one full rotation. So .223 barrel spins the bullet double the rate of as a 22lr barrel, not half.

Thank for for the fine sampling and testing. Well done. Maybe the 35 yard range is not the best analysis for accuracy to challenge the grouping to open enough for visible referencing. I decided to test my AR15 CMMG adopter at 100 yards for comparison. As a baseline, my AR15 averages .785 groupings (let's say 1 MOA) with many different .223 ammo types. The CMMG grouped averaged about 3.12 grouping at 100 yards (or 3 MOA). To be fair, some ammo (usually the CCI) grouped about 5 MOA. In my experience with 22LR competition shooting I found the exact opposite as your finding - that CCI is less than ideal when it comes to accuracy. In fact, based on what we see in various manufacture brands in 'high end' 22LR bolt & semi competitions around range, CCI is not a favorite. I will concede here its does seem to have success in popularity with the 10/22 crowd. It may be that it performs well in semi-auto 22LR, thus the AR15 with 22LR adopters. However, my experience did not substantiate that assumption. My own conclusion - regardless of your preference for ammo - the CMMG adopter is an ideal trainer between 50-100 yards. Results may vary, but it serves its intended purpose well.
@ZRUSOutdoorsChannel10 ай бұрын
I believe it has to do with the twist rate of most common 22LR rifles, in comparison to 223/556 rifles. We have to remember we are sending rounds through a rifle with a twist rate that was not meant for 22 lr. That being said, your typical engagement for rabbits and squirrels while hunting is 15-35 yards. So it’s a very useful item for that and practicing trigger time on the cheap. Thanks for the in depth comment!

I've always wondered why these kits don't come in 22WMR. I would think the the copper jacket would be an improvement over .22 lead bullets. My AR is 1 in 9 twist but not sure what twist rates are used for 22LR or 22mag.
@ZRUSOutdoorsChannel2 жыл бұрын
If i had to guess, it would be that 22WMR is a smaller diameter bullet. The accuracy wouldnt be all that great since the bullet wouldnt be grabbed by the rifling as it should. The 22WMR is also a much faster cartridge with the bullet being copper which is harder than lead used for 22LR. I would imagine that combination of factors would possibly damage the barrel over time as the 22WMR bullet rams into the rifling of the 223 barrel. Thats just my scientific wild ass guess, tho.

Running a 10.5” 1:7 stabilized with a bipod, standard mil-spec triggerlooking through a Ronin 1x30 RDS, co-witnessed with Matech BUIS, 25 yard indoor range - my best group is 0.45” with an average of 1”. That makes my best 5 shot group 1.8 MOA with an average of 4. You likely managed to get an average MOA 1-1.5. Your groups looked perfect except for one flyer. One flyer. In like 200 rounds fired. My man, your rifle mechanics and trigger squeeze are flawless. Kudos. Is your trigger mil-spec, drop-in, or some Geiselle god-mode super trigger? A bit late here, but wouldn't removing or bypassing your buffer detent do the same thing? Buffer plug puts pressure on the conversion kit because there's a gap where the buffer is being held back. With no detent, the buffer always pushes against the back of it. Runs fine in mine like that. And with no buffer detent, reliability is increased. No chance of that tiny nub shearing off and locking up in the trigger group.

Too bad there is no .22 lr ammo available to shoot. When I was a kid back in the 1960's you could buy a box of 22 ammo at the local hardware store anytime. Conversion kits in .22 lr are a great idea, I hope someday there will be ammo available for them.....
@ZRUSOutdoorsChannel3 жыл бұрын
you have to frequent the box stores that carry ammo often. try and catch them the morning of the delivery trucks. I just bought 1000 rds of 22LR and 500 rds of 556 from my local Academy sports.. It takes dedication, but you will at least have the opportunity, eventually.

I have a stock 16” barrel db15. I’ve tried finding info on if it has a notched or round hammer. I looked at this product and it recommends round hammer for function and safety. Do you know where I could find out if mines notched or round?
@ZRUSOutdoorsChannel2 жыл бұрын
If you look at the face of your hammer (the arear that hits the firing pin) A notched hammer will have what looks like a raised plateau on its face. A round hammer will be without this protrusion. Hit this link and scroll to the 3 or 4th post for a pic comparison : www.ar15.com/forums/ar-15/jam-o-matic/15-756531/

No. You need a .223"/5.56mm barrel for this to work. It works because a .223 and a 22lr are the same diameter.

I’m new to guns/ar, would this damage or put any unusual wear on the gun?
@ZRUSOutdoorsChannel3 жыл бұрын
Welcome to the gun world. Its good to have you. It will be a bit more dirty when cleaning your rifle after using this adapter, since 22LR is a little more dirty round. The barrel will collect lead in the rifling like any 22LR barrel does, while using this adapter. After shooting with this adapter, switch back to the 223/556 bolt and magazine to fire a couple rounds. The copper jacket of the 223/556 bullet, along with the pressure will rid the barrel of the lead build up. So to shorten this all up to answer your question. No. It will not hurt your rifle with usage, and if anything, is less wear and tear on your rifle than with using 223/556.

I decided to go with a dedicated .22lr upper from BCA. With it I can hit a 4" steel disk from 137 yds 10 out of 10 times. 50 yds on paper I get between 1 and 4 MOA depending on the ammo I use.
@ZRUSOutdoorsChannel2 жыл бұрын
@@mountainairgunner2067 not bad, . Yeah BCA has a pretty good price on their complete uppers. I think this adapter aligns more with people that want the ability to shoot 22 LR with their rifle on the fly. Its small size/ weight allow it to be packed without even noticing its there. Something to throw in a bag on an overland trip, allowing the ability to gather small game if need be. Or for the person who has a lot of money in their upper and the optics on it. This adapter allows them to utilize all of that without breaking the bank, and swap right back to 556 on the same upper.
@mountainairgunner20672 жыл бұрын
@@ZRUSOutdoorsChannel all good points. What made me decide against the adapter is gas port fouling since when I shoot .22lr I tend to shoot a lot of it.

First - people need to stop shooting AR's on the bench. It's a battle rifle, not a bolt action. Off-hand capabilities for the average shooter is about 8 moa or so. if you're hardware is less than that it's all that really matters.
