My daughter has severe scoliosis. She loves to shoot but her condition limits how much recoil she can handle. A scoped Hi Point 9mm carbine is her deer rifle. She does wonders with it. She is a 22lr sharpshooter. She has practiced to the point that she hits gallon jugs usually by the 2nd or 3rd shot at 200 yards with 24 zoomies. She has dedicated her daily shooting to her Ruger American Rimfire.10 inch steel plates at 50, 75,100, 150 yards. She just uses mil dot and holdovers. I can't wait to show her this video. 22lr target practice is her favorite activity in life. Thank you Sir!

17hmr would be a nice option if we want to do some longrange shooting with rimmfires. Practically same recoil as 22lr but caliber itself is like laser compared to 22lr. 250 meters half liter sodacan is pretty easy target with hawke scopes where it have hold over marks for distances.

Interesting presentation, but as someone who shoot a lot of 22Lr in competition and hunting I would like too recomend you to keep zero at 50m (55 yards). 22Lr is made to be under 100 m round and if you have zero at 100m this mean every time when you shoot something at 30, 40, 50m you will need to aim bellow the target and that is not so practical at all.

With a 50m zero I dial about 16.6 MIL with Lapua Center-X at 20C out of a 16" barrel to hit 300m plates...

i agree, for hunting, a 100 yard zero is not a very point and shoot choice. i choose 75M, 1" high at 50 4" low at 100. usually set up hunting on small properties with max 75M range.

@@riclindsey329 Indeed, Mr. Lindsey. When I was shooting NRA High Powered Rifle on a local Marine Corps Team, we had M14 rifles (without the full auto switch). On most targets past 200 yards, one could see 'vapor trails'. I think. One had to be behind the shooter, looking down the trajectory to get best results. Using a spotting scope recommended, bare eyes would sometimes work. Better in summer with some humidity in the air.

I am a bit older and to hear the words "22 long rifle" was refreshing. Dad once told me about his uncle and my grandfather with a 22 short. They were kids and saw the neighbors boar hog in the distance. The words " let's shoot next to him and scare him'' The story ended with a dead pig...

I used to shoot at jackrabbits from the back deck of our house down in Brownsville TX. There was a long flat piece of ground between us and the gulf. Rabbits would come out of an evening and browse around. To keep it fair, we used .22's. It was like dropping in artillery at long ranges. We found that you couldn't find scopes with enough adjustment to sight one in at those ranges. This was back in the 80's so scopes weren't what they are now.. But, with practice, you get good at holdover.

Go back a few issues in Field and Stream ,there was a gentleman who shot great distances and taught his young daughter to shoot the same with a .22 . Incredible distance way beyond what I thought a rimfire was capable of.

A very long time ago, i figured out that a half-furlong is just about the end of the practical application of the .22 long rifle cartridge. I found it to be accurate on the 107 yard ram in the .22 long rifle silhouette game and that I could estimate range out that far. Beyond that, it is a crap shoot. The clincher came many years later at the range where I do most of my shooting now. I saw someone else shooting the 200 yard target with a 22. Through the spotting scope I could see the bullets arching down almost like a home run hit after passing over the centre fielder's head. Range estimation errors of only ten yards each way would produce a wide miss. This video bears all of that out.

I've been shooting the 22lr at 200 yards for about 5 or more years now. I did the same thing you did and figured out the drop and determined 5.3 mils with Winchester bulk 333 ammo was my sweet spot. I found it to be a great way to practice trigger control and also a pretty good replication of shooting 308 at 500 yards but at a fraction of the cost. I do it in the winter and used to put 4" shotgun clays on the berm at 200 yards and use the holes in the snow to correct my windage. Thanks for the video, I am now going to try and reach out to 500 yards. Your chart helped me save at least 500 rounds. Cheers.

My local range has a 6 inch steel plate at 200 yards. I can hit it pretty much all day long with my (inherited from Dad and first gun I ever fired) Remington 582 with a 4x Bushnell scope (rifle and scope date to 1968). I do so off a bag rest and I was luckily able to find a consistent point of aim/hold over to hit at that range. It impresses the hell out of others, except my wife (who has to hold a bit lower and also found her own point of aim) and a few buddies who I let in on the secret of where to hold. Then it is kinda routine.

Nice video. I love the 22LR for pushing the range boundary, it's very fun. Last year I did a competition in 22LR up to about 290-300m and some consecutive test afterwards. What I noticed is that dialing the scope for 290-300 meters for the 22LR almost coincides as dialing my .308 @ 800m. Since I was swapping the same chassis and scope between the 22LR and .308 it was a nice reference point for the scope. I was using RWS R100 ammo for the 22LR and factory Hornady ELDM 168gr for the .308. On the 22LR I've also noticed that it prefers slower bullets for long range, since faster bullets get trans-sonic very quickly and destabilize more right around 100m. Another fun thing is observing the 22LR bullet with the naked eye lobbing itself like an artillery shell to the target @ 300m.

FYI - bullet drop vs. time is constant regardless of the projectile’s weight. It will drop at exactly the same rate if you just hold it in your fingers and let go. Galileo figured out that objects fall at the same speed regardless of how much they weigh, according to the tales, by dropping different things off the tower of Piza. The main factor for projectile drop is how long it takes for it to get from the muzzle to the target. Obviously, higher velocity ammo gets to the target faster, and so has less time to drop. The bullet weight, shape, BC, and powder charge all affect the velocity. If you could accurately measure the flight time you could very accurately predict the drop.

I remember as a kid doing this. Your standard 22LR cartridge they really started to drop and loose energy after 100 yards. Now put in CCI Stinger? That was a huge improvement over the standard velocity 22.

@@knokname6466 sorry not the case. That comment defies basic physics. 2 like objects as far as weight and size the one traveling faster will go further hit harder and drop less. I did a lot of shooting with 22 and would shot out to 400 yards or more. The Stingers would hit about 3’ higher at those distances than standard velocity 22.

Last year I got a Ruger Precision rimfire in 22 long. I went 100 yard zero drop at 200 was give or take 38 inches. The Precision rimfire is sweet little trainer rifle.

Sight mine in at 60 yards dead on...and hold over 2in after that every 20 yard past 60...works for me.. Kentucky windage is a great skill!!! Past 120 yards the drop is really fast so the real limits of the 22RF are about a 100 yards or closer for hunting!

I have my Remington 597 zeroed for 50 yards. When I aim for a gong target at 100y I aim about a foot high and left/right depending on the wind. I'm usually firing 1250 fps Federal bulk ammo.

I can confirm the bc for the norma tac 22 ammo is .150 so your chart would be fairly accurate so long as your MV is similar to the test barrel.

When I first began learning all this 'stuff', I loaded the chronograph, four rifles and many (perhaps 10 boxes) different brands of ammo into the truck and spent a few days at the range. Simply chronoing all the ammo in each rifle was time consuming. After getting the speed down, and recorded in each rifle's DOPE book, they were zeroed (at 25 yds) with each type to find the most accurate. This was recorded in the rifle's DOPE book. Second day was the "Range" day. I had targets (full size silhouette B22s) arranged in pairs from fifty to 200 yards. Utilizing the free download of Strelok on my phone, I didn't leave the bench until I was done shooting each rifle. surprisingly, the Strelok was correct with each come-up. The secret was having the correct velocity, Strelok did the rest. For free. Oh... my point being, from 25 to 50 yards, my come-up was three MOA clicks... at 75 it is 15 clicks... at 100, the come-up is 30 clicks-- all together, 30.3 clicks, and 7,95 MOA from 25 to 100 yards. At 200 yards, the come-up is 101 clicks, or 52.9 MOA. I've shot it out to 300 with Strelok dope and it's always been right on, or too close to call.

I have the same gun with a vortex 6x18x44 sighted in at 50yds shoots less than 1/2inch group at 25 yds dead center really tight group at 100 6-7 inch low but still a pretty tight group and I am also using Norma tact 22 same results with cci subsonic green and sk rifle match subsonic

We shoot longer range often (200-300 yards) and have done 500 yards with .22. The best ammo you can use and sort by rim thickness. Obviously a good condition day with minimal wind. Lapua Center X, Midas and Eley Yellow is what has worked best for my rifle. Your BC is high IMO on that ammo.

Nice video. I would love to see someone try to shoot 1000 (actual) yards with a 22lr. All the test I have performed have the bullet destabilizing between 600 and 800 yards. Because of the lost stability they tumble and fall out of the sky around 850 yards. It would be cool to see someone respectable do a 1000 yard test on camera.

The long barrel on the trainer is probably working against you, 16" is about all you need from the .22lr, anything after that is just applying drag to the bullet so your velocities are probably less than you would get out of a shorter barrel thus applying more drop. Love the CZ rimfires.

@@bertfromnz9069 just a thought, and I'm not trying to discredit your experience. But I do have a question. Is most of your shooting from a rested rifle, or off hand? Because when shooting off hand, a longer barrel will add a little more forward weight, thus making it easier to hold "steady" on your target. That's just been my experience. When I bought my latest Ruger 10-22 it came with a 16" barrel and I was concerned about accuracy at my normal target range of 100 yards. I can keep several 2" spinning targets spinning till my magazine is empty from a bench and movable bi pod.

Nice video, keep my 22LR CZ 457 sight in 50, and then hold over on my Vortex 6-24-50 FFP for longer gongs, e.g I hold over 8 MOA and ring the gongs at 150 yards shot by shot... it gets that simple since 22lr is pretty much sight in for maximum point blank range which in reality is 75yards :) so for more precise application sight in for 75, for shooting at gongs 6 inches or so wide 50yards sight in zero is way better since your shots under 50 yards are going to be hitting plates as well without needing aiming low... just keep target in crosshair and you are set... enjoy :) our children certainly do enjoy it too

For comparison, my 6mm PPC competition rifle shooting a 66 grain bullet at around 3150 fps takes 10 1/8th MOA scope clicks to go from 100 to 200 yards. That is 2-1/2 inches.

Cool. My favorite guns to shoot are my two Marlin bolt guns. One (Model 25) I use only 22 short. A real tack driver at 15 to 30 yards. For LR bullets, I use the Model 781. Extremely good at 50 to 100 yards. A little tip for 22LR shooters wanting to zero in a new gun/scope. Zero it in at 25 yards. It will be close at 100 yards (due to the trajectory of the bullet) and then you can fine tune it at 100 yards. Saves bullets that way. (Unless you know it's already on paper at 100 yards) A note on those figures at 1000 yds. You were showing 18 ft lb energy at 1000 yards and blowing it off as a whiff. 18 ft lbs will kill small game. British use half that energy in pellet guns to take rats, squirrels, and rabbits. It's probably less because they are rating muzzle energy, which means it'll be a good bit less at the target. My 25 ft lb muzzle energy pellet gun takes them at 65 yards. Just saying. Really good video and information. Thanks for sharing.

Well, about 12 ft/lbs in .22 cal is enough to penetrate temple part of human adult scull. I think that figure is for 15 grain pellet. Don't know how the things stand with .22 LR 40 grain bullet

I'm 14, and I got my MARK II GXP Savage 22LR. I used some Blazer ammo and hit a 4-inch target at 300 yards. I was crouching on the floor and used a Field Pod Max to hold my rifle. I had maxed out my scope turrets in elevation, so I had to do some Kentucky windage and aim a bit high over the target. It took me about 10 tries, but then I heard a ding, and it fell over. My scope has no mil dots or hash marks, just a plain old X reticle. I had my gun sighted in at 40 yards.

Yes , when set for 100 yard zero, at 50 yards the bullet will impact at 5inches . I was using my Bruno LR .22 using Winchester Subsonic 22.nice video

This is the coolest video I will watch today...we are plinkers with lever Rossi and Henry...used Norma to sight at 50 yards, and blow up lots of any brand high velocity bulk at 100 yards...nowhere near your accuracy but hitting golf balls at 100 yards with flunky ammo entertains the sh_t out of us...😀
