Glad to see some fellow country boys country boys having some fun. Love a .22 mag and a .17, but damn at ten yards even off handed y’all should be able to do a little better than that. I usually try to cut a half inch circle at 50 yards with my .22 before I’ll even go squirrel huntin. Either way keep doin what you’re doin and just have some fun.

At 10 yards, should have just done, iron sights, straight up, no scopes. Both are accurate up to 100 yards, so 10 yards. Personally I think the Savage A .17 HMR 17 grain is the best bunny gun on the market right now, shoots straight and over double the velocity of the .22 LR. The .22 Magnum say...30 grain is a little slower than the .17 HMR 17gr (2550 FPS) but carries more weight and has a more curved trajectory. It's all personal preference I guess.

I think the Marlin with the bull barrel has a tad better close range accuracy, especially if it has the micro groove rifling. Out at 75 to a hundred yards or more I think the 22 mag would out do the 17 hmr. I'd love to see a longer range competition between the two.

Tack driver. Start at 25 yards. Then 50 and 100 yards. Drive a roofing nail in the center of a paper plate. When you knock the plate down, move to next distance. See how many shots it takes to drop the three plates. Fewest shots wins. Caliber of your choice. Not timed, but fewest shots. (Safe). Use same gun or personal favorite. 22 LR can be a good choice. As we left I had the bright idea to shoot the part of the clothes pin that you squeeze to open it, thinking the paper would fall.... they didn't thought I was missing. I walked up to the target. I hate pennies too. But this is a whole new level of grievance.

Love the savage..I have the 65M since I was 16 and can do 3 inch clusters at 75 yards iron sights. I wouldn't want to use on squirrels though I have to hit a cotton tail in the head to keep from making a mess of it. I tend to fuss on the cost of quality rounds for it though.. only a bit cheaper than 223!

Awesome video! Man, I’m really torn on this one. I own both, and love both. I guess I answered my own question!
