Escape. One of the most well loved story in the Railway Series, and of Season 3 of the Television Series. Some material was cut from the television episode to save time, but what if I told you about another detail the Reverend left out? One too dark for children.. and too scarring for the one who lived to tell the tale? Now…. bear witness to this sad story.

I’d love nothing more than a story about a scrapper who has massive PTSD from scrapping so many steam engines. As for this story, at least Howard got to die with someone who tried to show a friendly face in his last moments

A tragic and Dark story indeed. It's sad to see engines in those times to be scrapped. We're lucky that there are people out there that manage to save and preserve a good number of engines, steam, diesel, etc, on different railways big or small. R.I.P. to the fallen Engines classes that didn't make it. Anyways nice interpretation on what may have happened during Oliver's (and co) escape to the North Western Railway. Aka Sodor. He's a witness alright. To Howard being cut down for scrap, his passing, and those two Diesels laughing at Howard's demised. Such a dark thing for an engine to witness. Well done on this story.

Wouldn’t it be something if he eventually met those two diesels after they’d in turn been preserved and he calls them out for their behavior

Dang, that was quite a tragic story on what happened to Howard, and even for Oliver to witness Howard passing during his escape. This is quite a great story for tales of the scrap siding this year for Halloween. You and the others took part of this audio did great. 🙂

Death… the one mystery as impenetrable as life. To experience it up close… *shudder* NGL, was hoping for a story of an engine that gave its life for Oliver. But the real world isn’t like that. It’s full of misery, pain, and cruelty. It’s full of life and hope too. But that doesn’t mean the former doesn’t happen.

Merciful Heavens. I knew Oliver's escape to Sodor was scary from the start, what with BR sending Diesels to hunt him down. This story turned a story of survival into a sob story. Poor Howard was cut up just as we got to know him and he was making friends with Oliver, by 2 diesels at a time when modernization was the hype in railways. Now I do hope Oliver can talk about Howard and he can be remembered by all.

I did presume in the casting call for this next batch that the fourth story was going to centre around Oliver's escape, and it was even more tragic and sad to see Howard being cut up for scrap and the diesels not having any sympathy for it makes it even more baffling to an engine's and viewer's eye. Still, this is a terrific story! Looking forward to Story #5!

An interesting thing about the whole Preservation of Steam is we never know what Mainland Controllers think of Sir Charles. Do they admire his defiance or do they ridicule him for not being able to see the "inevitable"? I want to know!

Very tragic and dark alright. In my AU, the entire true story Oliver facing scrap was very dark, too dark for children, which is why Wilbert wrote it the way he did.

Hi 22 Tesla listening to Oliver's story is truly terrifying escaping from all of those diesel must have Oliver must have been so frightened and traumatised as well. So to hear another steam Engine screaming in agony as he is being slowly tortured by having his part's of him cut off with a blow torch no wonder. Oliver blocked out that part of his story brilliantly made video absolutely fantastic 22 Tesla

A truth realization horror. I guess we were due for one of those. (Reminds me of "The Truth about Scrap" read by narrow gauge.) To me these stories are more tragedy then horror. But they are good non the less.

In real life the same diesels who murdered Howard probably killed Oliver too because there is no GWR number 1436 engine anymore unless Oliver is a ghost

Please would you write a story where GWR broad gauge engines come back to haunt standard gauge steamers because of their resentment due to their untimely demise? Perhaps the first scene of the story would be at Swindon where they're pleading to not get scrapped but instead their pleas fall on deaf ears, upsetting them. After they die, they blame the standard gauge steamers and tell them if diesels replace them they deserved it.
