Bruce, you may not have been good in the courtroom but you are a very good teacher in the classroom.

Eastern Orthodox presents God in a much more austere fashion. I love what I was told about their observation of our worship service: 'Who are you oh man to sit in the presence of God?' We sit at ease in our pews while being entertained by a lecture and a concert. Where is the worship in that theater setting. We are far to at ease in our approach to the creator and sustainer of the universe, and yet He calls us to call upon Him as 'Abba father' So there is a tension within us between God the holy and almighty and God our father, sustainer, provider, and friend.

Thank you for sharing your studied insight as a gift. I have benefited much already. I almost rushed passed this "aside" session wanting more of the Revelation.. Ha!.Thanks be to God I did not. It is one of the best messages I have ever experienced..your picture of God's interaction with Job brought me laughter then tears. A personal experience to share about 4:8 .in hopes of offering a source of encouragement....whenever I act as one of the creatures and repeat that verse.over & over...without fault... the troubled world fades away and I am found in a state of worship. Try it right now! Thanks be to our Lord and Savior and the Spirit He provides.

twenty minutes into the lesson knowing how we would be in the present of God, i thought how wonderful it was when Adam walked with God before sin enter the world. this numinous, feeling of dread, in the present of Holy God is because of sin and thank God for Jesus Christ who: "...takes away the sin of the world." thank you Lord Jesus

Thank you so much for all your teachings on the Book of Revelation. I also was a dispensationalist , having been raised that way , but after truly being born again I see things different now. I truly enjoy your teaching. I wish some of my close friends would watch with an open mind , but I find it best sometimes just to just let others believe what they choose. How and why they do I can not see. Thanks and God Bless

I quite agree. In my experience I have found that prayer, love, and humility are much more persuasive than arguments!

For me it's three pregnant, multi-variegated words that together point me towards and reminds me of the Creating-Saving God, and my relationship to Him: Awe, Wonderment and Mutual Pure Jouissance. Thanx Counselor for being faithful to bring His Body this nourishment of soul and spirit. T.K.

This profoundly impacted me. Understanding the nature of God’s holiness makes me reflect on how much love He had to become a human and be humiliated by the death on the cross

Is this an ongoing series now in 2020? It seems that one session a week comes out suggesting it is current. Your presentation is inspiring. God has given you the power to spread the message of the Gospel. Thank you. I first felt the idea of the holiness of God listening to RC Sproul, reading the Holy Bible and reviewing Sproul’s series On The Holiness of God.

Lars Eckman This is a current series. Sproul helped me a lot when I met him 40 years ago at LVSC. Thanks for your interest!

At times, I have made known the opinion that American Christian culture has lost its zeal for reflecting Gods holiness through its dress, speech, and entertainment pursuits; their eyes glaze over and then I end up feeling like a Martian on Earth. How can I be imbalanced if the Bible is true? Thank you for the series.

I wonder if the Word Holy repeated 3 times is no coincidence because the father, son and holy spirit, is the triune godhead and the beings are addressing each member. what's your thoughts?
@GoreBruce9 ай бұрын
Yes, that is certainly a possibility. Broadly speaking, the number 'three' tends to point to heavenly matters, and the number 'four' to earthly.

Which Jonathon Edwards’s book were you referencing?

Edwards treatment of beauty is scattered across many of his writings. A good summary is here: www.moodypublishers.com/mpimages/Marketing/WEB%20Resources/ProductExcerpts/9780802424587-TOC-CH1.pdf

I think this is one of the strangest lectures. I grew up Lutheran but moved away from sensory meditation based on an experience with Eastern orthodoxy wherein I discovered the idolatry of asceticism. Now I'm not claiming that you're being idolatrous, but the notion that the "numinos" is something beyond the pure definition of "set apartness" is frankly absurd. We feel what we feel in the presence of the Holy because we are sinful. All creation and the 24 elders are redeemed. Bit Adam and Eve were in perfect communion with God. Their lives were worship and thus holy as God is holy. God does not give us an imperative that we cannot attain. But through Christ alone we are granted holiness. And even more to live in perfect worship. So there is no such thing as a "numinos", we're just really sinful.

Philosophy, does it really have anything to do with the revelation of God? The Father is holy, the Son is holy, and the Ghost is holy. God has revealed his holiness through history and scripture and I doubt that CS Lewis, who was not a Christian, as far as I know, could be in any shape or form capably of describing the holiness of God. I am sorry, but I would reject any literature about God written by unholy men. They don't have the Spirit of God, and cannot understand God's voice, the holy bible.
@MR-cc7zl3 жыл бұрын
I'm afraid you are mistaken. To be sure, Lewis was not always a Christian; equally sure is that he did become one. A large number of his works pertain directly to the Christian faith; "Surprised by Joy" details his own conversion to belief in Christ. It is well worth reading, along with "The Problem of Pain" which Bruce mentioned. Short bio - www.ewtn.com/catholicism/library/conversion-story-of-c-s-lewis-9821

So the holiest song is saying 1 word, 3 times, over and over for all eternity without ceasing? And i thought pop music was bad for repetitive drivel.

Your hatred of God is crystal clear. Why waste your time? God commands men everywhere to repent and believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, that my friend applies to you. Please stop suppressing the truth in unrighteousness. Thank you.
