The reason british and Irish lights up is because of your Jamaican and Barbados roots and legacy of colonialism from there; this is why it lit up higher than your known German Great GrandParent. It's quite amazing really that it was able to get all of that information, and not only that but pick up both countries and the general parish from which you came from. Furthermore, as a predominant African American person, you are also able to shed some light in the general area from which you came from, though it's still pretty broad due to the spread of locations slaves were taken from. in your case, you can pretty much say Nigeria/Ghanaian/Liberian/Siera Leonian. Last thing. Keep in mind that this is with 50% confidence; as you raise the confidence up to 90%, the certainty of locations fall drastically.
@sfsiprogs
@sfsiprogs 3 жыл бұрын
She can't say Liberian, Ghanaian, and Sierra Leonian, if she wants to get a broader view of which nation she has more ancestry with she should do ancestry.com . Ghana, Sierra Leone, and Liberia are 3 different countries with different backgrounds. Sierra Leonians and Liberian are popular for being descendants of the Mali empire who were sold as slaves during slavery. Ghana is somewhat popular in Jamiaca (which is what she is) but only in Kromanti's the rest of Jamaica are Nigerians and other with some Ghanaian roots. She cannot claim Ghana/Liberia/Sierra Leone because she doesn't even know which countries she has more ancestry with. I'd advice any African American that is highly interested in there roots to take ancestry tests from multiple companies and confirm with gedmatch so they are not telling people false info.

Usually the story of Native American ancestry is true. But the story out lives blood dilution which happens every generation. So for your family if it is true by this many generations you would have no native american dna left. Its good to test grandparents to recieve a better picture of your family. 100% ancestor of full blood 50% 25% 13% 5% 3% grandparent 1% parent 0 you

@yellooberry Well... Do you mind if I question a bit? I won't make it long. The places that are shown to you; those are places that your DNA are currently right? How long have those people resided in those areas? Were there any wars fought during the time your people resided in those lands? Did they come to those lands fron other places in Africa prior to sojourning there until today? Last but not least did they ever partake in indentured servitude? I would love to see these questions answered in a video as part of your research into your ancestors. No! Literally I would live to see you make a video like that. I'll go get popcorn and everything.

Hi, unfortunately they did not. Under my Jamaican ancestry they wrote a broad statement that “in the last 200 years my ancestors may have lived ...” and they also didn’t mention any Haplogroup

@@YellooBerry ok thanks, because I've seen some videos where they told people what their haplogroup was, and where their most recent ancestor was from. It was very detailed that's why I'm thinking about doing 23 and me, but you should look into that information and see if they could provide that information for you. It could help you trace your paternal and maternal lineage to a specific country if you do the research. Thank you for responding! 😊

There are different kits that give you access to more or less information. I purchased one of the cheapest kits which is probably why my results weren’t as detailed as the others you’ve seen. But thanks and good luck to you when you do it!

Greetings. DNA has nothing to do with nationality or ethnicity, for that matter. Unless you plan to gain citizenship of another country by moving there, your nationality remains the same. The only thing these DNA provide are estimates of your ancestral makeup which can change as it is not an exact science. All these commercial companies use different algorithms and population groups to provide an estimate of your ancestral makeup and they are not factual. They are simply estimates. Cousin matches are accurate and reliable and people should be studying their matches, argues many genetic genealogists. I also want to add that by studying your matches you can gain an understanding of your ancestral makeup and claim that ancestry. That is all you can change.

You inherit 50/50 from each parent. (Please keep in mind that is NOT to say that you mother only has 50 genes and your father only has 50 genes.) Each parent has thousands of genes and you will only get 50 of those thousands from EACH parent. Example: If your MOM has 10 black genes, 5 white genes, and 5 asian genes...you may only get the 10 black genes. If you DAD had the same exact quantum...and you got 10 black genes from HIM...your 50/50 would be black-to-black. Your SIBLING may get the 5 white genes, and the 5 asian from your MOTHER BUT get the 10 black genes from the father. Its still 50/50 but your sibling will be a carrier of the asian and white genes of your mother while you will NOT be a carrier. YET you BOTH have the same parents and are 50/50 of your parents. Depending on what dominates, both of you may look exactly the same phenotypically even though you may carry some genes the other doesn't carry. This may happen if certain genes DOMINATE or a little or a lot. (I don't have italics or bold so using caps). So as you can see, dominant genes and what-you-carry are not the same thing. (For many of us that want a better understanding: think of when you play cards. You have deck of cards and you only delve out 7 to a person. The cards in that person's hand still comes from the same deck although he does not have all the cards in that deck. Now reshuffle that deck and delve out 7 more to another person. Lets call that the sibling. Are your hands the same? Some may be or not at all.) Also remember that genes are not just about ethnicity or race but about individual features as well. You can look like an indian or black version of your white mother. That's a whole other story and would be too much to write here.

You said your father's grandmother was German. If she was full, that would make your father's mother half, him 25%, and you 12.5%, if the numbers worked perfectly, but they don't. If you're half something, the genes from that side get passed on randomly, so you could theoretically have a kid with one of that half, and another with only that half, but it would average to be 1/4 or 25% passed on, in other words, half of a half.

Ignore anything below 5-10% sometimes even 15% unless you have a family history or paperwork to that area. So in other words your Nigerian and Ghanian are your highest locations. That is due to proximity to the other country. ALL the West African countries are pretty close so have been intermixing for centuries. As far as claiming? In the U.S. no one will care, in Nigeria they will not like it very much. They consider Americans, American period. American is your nationality so they won't really recognize you as Nigerian. You DO however have Nigerian origins. You may even still have Nigerian relatives you can find since your admixture was pretty recent. Your European was expected, the French, German borders until recently have always moved around with various invasions over the centuries Northeastern European ok that is probably where most of the German you inherited went. Remember they only test PART of your DNA, you only will inherit a certain amount of DNA from his mother and in random amounts it is never evenly. Also you have to consider the dataset. I noticed their dataset is NOT coming from historical samples of people from that region but from LIVING people who show high markers from that region. Your grandmother's markers may show a different sample set of people living in that area at a different time period. The English Irish is most likely from the English owned Jamaica and Barbados Islands. Pretty cool. Genetics are cool and you are one gorgeous mixture! WOw
