BTW, I reached out to Chevy on this and this is the statement: On the surface, the axle vents do not communicate the amount of engineering and development that has gone into them. Many people might expect that it simply contains a one-way valve, but it actually utilizes an expanded PTFE membrane (think Gore-Tex in the clothing industry) to prevent water, dust or dirt ingestion, while still functioning as a vent. Bottom line, it's designed to be submerged and not allow water ingestion. We validate the sealing system (axle seals included) by heating the entire axle up to well over boiling temperatures, followed by an immediate submersion in an ice bath for an extended period of time. This is far more abusive than the pressure differentials a customer will see when fording water. Chevrolet Communications I'm also publishing a video talking about this and the fact you might have warranty concerns due to DIY fixes like this one.

His looks like the hose is there, but I don't see the valve at the top, is it missing? Maybe it fell off or was missed in a quality check? That definitely would cause a lot of water to get into the diff.

It was full to the rim with water forced the oil out. Caught it that night. It took 4 clean outs, and now it looks clear.
@ronhu60358 ай бұрын
It has been reviewed before. There is a waterproof membrane in there. So it does not matter. I guess if you had sent the oil to the lab for analysis to see how much water was in there. I'd give this video credence.

What differential is used in the ZR2 and AT4X models? Looking now to purchase a rear diff cover that has a drain plug for my 2024 X to make service really quick and easy.
@barryguffey80618 ай бұрын
No drain plug how do you fill it?
@klforrest5738 ай бұрын
@@barryguffey8061 use a hand pump and pump the gear oil through the fill plug hole that you remove first. You have to remove the whole cover to drain the rear end due to there’s no drain plug. With the proper diff cover that has both which makes the job about 15 to 20 minutes.

I re-used the OEM vent cap & 5” bent hose & added 4 ‘ of new hose & now have the vent cap mounted up beside the gas fill tube.

I got water intrusion in my rear axel. Not sure why. But It did..... I had to clean it out.

The 19-22 models have a small rubber line that goes off to the side of the pumpkin. Yours appears to go straight up (is that the top of the hose we see @1:17?) and should have had a plastic vent housing with a teflon membrane that prevents water intrusion. I would suspect the 23+ to have this vent w/membrane or similar. Factory miss perhaps? It being above the axle seems unlikely that it would get ripped off.... is there any evidence of there having been a vent cap installed there?

How much water got in the differential?

Its not a 1inch tube. Your truck is missing the 8 inch tube that has a bend in it. For some reason yours is not there

Run a tube up with a filter on it. I did that to my Titan too.
