Adding a swivel seat on the passenger side really opens up the back as well. I think a swivel passenger seat should almost be standard now, it's a game changer. I had one in my large Ford Transit

You could easily add a camping shower into that build. Cut hole in the floor in the bed are for a tub,so water can drain out, build a floor cover for shower tub, get a curtain to hang around the roof, n add a good camping shower n 10 gallon water tank. From what i see plenty of room for it. Could even add the little van conversion wood stove to help with heat and cooking right in same area

Yeah I was thinking about that too as long as you are not transporting those LARGE Gaylord boxes 📦 yeah four (4) 48x40 standard wooden pallet skids can slide in there nice and tight .. I’ve picked up three (3) pallet skids from my DHL Express courier days plus ten (10) large boxes from my regular pickup from my Brooksville, Florida route yeah it was a HEAVY load 😳😬

In the UK for fast freight we tend to want 4 pallets in the back on a 4 metre floor. The latest idea is a flip down bed attached to the fixed bulkhead. Looks nice conversion tho.

The best curtain setup is fron International trucks, the only good thing about them. Their sleeper curtains have floor-to-ceiling magnets. You just get the two edges close and they seal all the way up and down. One behind the seats and another behind the bunk means you only have to heat or cool the area you're going to occupy. You push the aside when you want them out of the way. A little heavy but worth it.
@RedsCustomDesign
@RedsCustomDesign Жыл бұрын
Yah, but not everyone wants to spend that kind of money or has it to spend. Walmart blackout curtains do the job too. Worked for me for over 20 years.

Just an idea, you could put the "locking mechanism" for the wall on the Cab side of the wall, instead of the cargo side, to alleviate the need to kick the wall down, if the back door wont open from the outside. Also is is there enough width on the inside , to build a "Murphy bed" setup (so it can be raised up against the side of the van) , to be able to load 3 pallets ? or would that put the bed too low or on the floor? Im guessing the fender wells are around 10 inches, so the space needed to stow the bed couldnt be much more than that.
@RedsCustomDesign
@RedsCustomDesign Жыл бұрын
It's not where the latch is located. It's the way the wall opens. There is not enough space between the wall and the drivers seat to lift the wall up. Those wheel well boxes are 24" tall. And no,you can't have a murphy style bed and get 3 pallets. In a 170ext you may be able to get a short muphy bed and 2 pallets. But not 3.
@randallalderman2260
@randallalderman2260 Жыл бұрын
@@RedsCustomDesign I was thinking that the wall would be hinged at the top and swing to the back instead of the front. I havent these vans in person , only online, so no idea how theyre designed. Just trying to think of a way it may work. And with the Murphy bed, I was talking about having it closer to the front, like the bed in your video. And using the space in front of the wheel wells and the width of the wheel wells to hide the Murphy bed. And just dont build wheel well boxes where the bed would be.

I know it gonna sound weird, but in order to make freight a priority, what about using a hammock instead a regular mattress or bed? And I meant when the van is not running. I like it though.
@RedsCustomDesign
@RedsCustomDesign 2 жыл бұрын
You definitely could, but for the most part (myself included) it's going to take a hell of a good hammock and anchor points to hold them. Not to mention if you have one or two tall pallets you wouldn't be able to use it.

There are several different 12v/24v/48v DC powered a/c options. But most don't want to spend that kind of money. A rooftop a/c (if you install it yourself) is around $1200 and a generator is around $1000. A 12v a/c unit is $3k - $5k plus $3k - $6k in lithium batteries plus a dc-dc to charge them while driving. And that only gets you about 6 - 10 hours. Then you have to find a place to plug in and charge your batteries if you have a shorepower charger.

I've been in transportation for over 25 years. This is the only way I have done it. Most just put the e-track on top of a 4x8 sheet of plywood because they are to lazy to do it right.
