I was a radical leftists. After Trump won the election I was hell bent on studying and debunking free markets and conservativism in general. After researching and arguing i realized i was wrong about economics and softened on conservative thinking. Basically i went from ancom to ancap during Trumps term. Just to say, i relate to Michael and think many people have a similar story

31:16 "u cannot play markets like children play war" - pretty sure it was in human action - fucking great book - after reading it i declared myself a capitalist. A few books later I am now an anarcho-capitalist, which is basically capitalism

02:00 🎙️ Michael Rectenwald is a former Marxist, academic, and author who transitioned to Libertarianism. 02:38 📚 Rectenwald’s early academic career was heavily influenced by leftist theories, leading him to embrace Marxism. 03:28 🏛️ Marxism appealed to him because it focused on socioeconomic positions rather than identity-based theories. 05:02 🎓 Rectenwald taught at NYU, where he began to question leftist orthodoxies, leading to clashes with the academic community. 06:40 🐦 His anti-PC tweets and public statements sparked backlash and a confrontation with NYU’s administration. 08:56 🧠 NYU accused Rectenwald of suffering a mental breakdown due to his unorthodox views, leading to his alienation. 11:09 🗣️ His criticisms focused on identity politics, censorship, and totalitarian tactics in academia. 16:00 📖 Studying the economic failures and atrocities of communism led Rectenwald to Libertarianism. 19:09 🏴‍☠️ He argues that private property is essential for wealth creation, and that capitalism is the solution to the failures of socialism. 20:05 🧠 The speaker explains that Marxism's idea of "freedom from necessity" is flawed because scarcity is fundamental to economics, leading to the belief that true freedom is rooted in self-ownership. 21:10 🔒 The speaker's belief in self-ownership influenced their resistance to censorship and coercion, particularly during conflicts with their university and a communist group. 24:03 💡 The most powerful critique of Marxism is that without property rights, economic calculation is impossible, leading to economic failure. 29:01 📉 Mises's early critique of socialism argued that without market-based prices, rational economic calculation is impossible, predicting the eventual downfall of socialist economies. 31:22 🧩 Marxists tried to address Mises's critique by creating alternative mechanisms, but these failed because they couldn't replicate true market dynamics. 32:53 🤖 Some socialists now believe AI could solve the economic calculation problem, but the speaker argues that AI can't replace the role of private property in economic decision-making. 36:01 🖥️ The speaker criticizes AI as being shaped by the biases and agendas of its programmers, warning that it could be used to enforce government agendas under the guise of "intelligent" decisions. 37:01 📚 The speaker introduces their book *Google Archipelago*, which explores how big tech companies are perpetuating ideologies like social justice through surveillance, censorship, and control of information. 40:06 🌐 Big Tech has a leftist bias and has been involved in censorship, as evidenced by various legal cases. 40:58 📉 People's awareness of censorship increased significantly during the 2020 lockdowns, highlighting its broader impact. 41:54 🚫 Doctors faced severe censorship for discussing alternative treatments during the pandemic, with many disappearing from social media. 44:09 🧪 X (formerly Twitter) is seen as a test case for handling censorship and information control, with recent warnings from the EU. 45:33 🇪🇺 The EU has threatened fines and legal actions against X for not curtailing certain types of speech, highlighting globalist influence on free expression. 46:08 🌍 The tightening of internet regulations is becoming more evident, with concerns about platform biases and the promotion of specific narratives. 47:05 🌐 Elon Musk's approach on X includes promoting certain viewpoints while still manipulating algorithms, especially noticeable in high-profile conflicts. 48:24 🎭 There is a perception that right-wing figures are hypocritical in their stance on free speech compared to their actions regarding Israel and Palestine. 49:31 🔄 The association of Western Civilization with Zionism is criticized, with the view that it reflects poorly on Western values. 50:03 🏜️ The situation in Palestine is argued to be different from historical colonialism, with a focus on land ownership and property rights. 53:10 📜 Historical comparison of Zionism to colonialism is contested, emphasizing that the context of land ownership and settlement differs significantly. 54:06 🆘 The perception that any action by Israel is justifiable while Palestinian actions are not is criticized as a double standard. 55:06 🔍 Debating figures like Walter Block is seen as unproductive, with criticisms of his inconsistent views on libertarianism and Israel. 59:05 💬 Libertarianism is often misunderstood as libertinism; it allows for personal freedom but does not necessitate acceptance of all behaviors in a community. 1:01:00 🏘️ Voluntary communities can be formed with rules of conduct, distinguishing different libertarian views. 1:01:18 ⚖️ Libertarianism debate often involves disagreements about state intervention versus personal freedom. 1:03:03 🏛️ The importance of family and societal values is argued to support a stable, productive society. 1:04:00 📝 Libertarianism can coexist with cultural conservatism and property rights, opposing attempts to dismantle societal structures. 1:07:25 🔍 "The Great Reset" explores the idea of stakeholder capitalism and its implications for centralized economic control and surveillance. 1:13:30 🌐 The book discusses the potential failure of the Great Reset and its comparison to socialist principles. 1:16:25 🕵️‍♂️ Conspiracy theories are common and can reflect real covert plans, though some are dismissed too quickly. 1:18:01 🏭 The extreme form of socialism envisioned could lead to a lack of personal choice, likened to a "slave colony" with total control. 01:20:03 🧠 Theoretical concerns about technology's ability to control thoughts and actions through brain-computer interfaces. 01:20:56 📉 Early optimism about the internet's liberating potential contrasted with current realities of censorship on both traditional and social media. 01:22:14 🤖 Criticism of Facebook for fostering low-quality interactions and censoring meaningful discussions. 01:23:03 🍖 Nutritional deficiencies, particularly lack of meat and fat, are seen as contributing to poor cognitive function and susceptibility to manipulation.

At 35:30 they talk about socialism but the bureaucracy is replaced by AI. A very real scenario btw. Paul Rosenberg goes deep into this in a very realistic way in his novel The Breaking Dawn. Highly recommend for people interested in this stuff.
