Replace the standard coolant expansion tank, they are known to split in the seam between top and bottom halves. It will only leak when hot and can be easily missed, cost you a head gasket...

One thing i have seen for the front shocks, is that some people have placed the remote res on the other side of the wheel guards inside the engine bay. Can provide easy access and limit the amount of mud and dirt accumilation on them.
@SIDETRACKED2 жыл бұрын
Yep, still might change that!

should tighten the control arm bolts at ride height, so the bush doesnt bind up.

Yep spot on, everything was torqued at ride height.

Having owned a Discovery 2 for five years with $25'000 worth of receipts and now just bought a Patrol. I feel for anyone buying a Land Rover, it's literally an endless catalogue of issues. Good luck. Ps, my great D2 is for sale in the Sunshine Cst if anyone is interested......

Great video, i put my remote reservoirs inside the back body tub & helps to keep them getting muck on them.

Christmas came early :-) My 25 year abusive, toxic and hateful relationship with Land Rover, might be starting to wear off. Like that powder they put in the tea in the military to quell ones primal urges :-) Looking bloody awesome.

Dislocation cones on the rear, definitely. I'm interested to see what the gearing is like on 35s. Could always get the fuel pin and boost ring kit to give the engine a bit more oomph.

Not a fan of dislocation cones, i'll get longer coils when they become available again.

+1 for dislocation cones had them on my old 110 csw 2inch then 4inch lift 35s

Nice new rig - love your build. Regarding your rear wheel travel - there are dislocation cones available for Land Rovers. These guide the spring back into the spring pearch. The front turrets don't look very rugged - sorry to say that but I would keep the originals before mounting these. I know that's easier sad than done but there are tubular ones available in the UK that are very rugge. Maybe also in Australia. My dad runs these on his Range Rover Classic.

They are a copy of gwyn lewis front turrets, i have those on my 110 and they are very solid!

Looks good! Just finished up the same job in the rear on my Disco, glad to see you went with Kingpin Design's gear, it's some awesome kit and Rick is super helpful! Would recommend throwing rear spring retainers in (upper and lower) from them, keeps them a lot more predictable. I just did a couple videos covering the same work but more in depth, might give you some ideas for phase 2 of the suspension in the mighty Defender!

you ort to hit up Ashcrofts and get some diff gears for that bad boy, gonna be crazy slow without them ! and then might as well throw some lockers in while they open ;) triple locked is the way to go

What do you think about removing the bonnet sound/heat insulation and coating the bonnet with a layer of sound insulative coating for more clearance ?
@SIDETRACKED2 жыл бұрын
After driving, its actully hitting the bonnet, not the insulation, so i may drop it back down a few mm.

Carry spare pads, they will chop out in the mud/grit Grease and check the unis, as they will bust, if they have not been maintained (in reverse , the front shaft will let go) Get the Prop shaft but tool,,,, you'll thank me later

Going to need more than just a regear for the 35s. LR half-shafts and axles break for a pastime even with 31s. You are definitely going to need something stronger.
@mattluszczak80952 жыл бұрын
I agree with beter halfshafts ets. Ive been running 33inch for years around vic highcountry with tunned tdi. All good so far. I would recommend hituff axles and flanges as they are more of a press fit
@MrDefence782 жыл бұрын
Ashcroft axles and lockers :)
@aus_overlander2 жыл бұрын
Looks like it has the upgraded flanges so it may already have upgraded axles, you'd want to make sure before 35s go on. LRs axles are twigs and will snap very easily.

You don,t need 35,s i run 33x12.5x15 bfg,s km3 muddys with a 2 inch lift in my GQ never been stuck any where just a waste of money ,lots extra fuel money to be had instead of doing these mods.
@SIDETRACKED2 жыл бұрын
Nice one! We sure don't need them but 35's will get you further than 33's without question.
@trickster86352 жыл бұрын
Guys, you are spending big and are going to be vastly disappointed. You've done nothing to address the core short comings of the model. - The little TDI is not going to handle 35's on road. It will work hard and suck fuel. This is a brick you are trying to push through the air! The big tyres will further exacerbate the terrible turning circle and poor maneuverability. Why you did not build a second Patrol, a proven beast, and double up and share common spares for both trucks, is beyond me? Best of luck.
