Good video. Jock explains everything very nicely without going into too many unnecessary or vehicle/model specific details. I wouldn't mind more of these videos for other things related to building an "average" rig (i.e. something like this Hilux that most of us will probably be looking into, not a rock climbing monster or a $200k custom built super tourer). I also like the way you are approaching this series as a step-by-step build in little (affordable) bites while still being able to use the car in between, instead of parking it in a garage for 6 months to work on it until it's done or doing a complete fitment of a whole bunch of stuff at the same time. This way is much more budget and free time friendly, doing what you can when you can. This is how I approached building up my own UTE - from stock to fully kitted out in 2-3 years, it gives you time to test new additions and the impact they have as well as the time to consider your next steps and the order of priority for future upgrades.

Pro-tip the shops don't want you to know; you can get an extra 2" lift just by inflating 33" tires to 175 psi, which basically makes them a 35".

Tough Dog also mention not to fully tighten the front lower shock bolts until the car is on the ground or it will twist the bushing and eventually break away.

That front tyre is dodgy as mate! Lol thanks for talking about adjusting the brake valve too. I lowered my 89 Hiace with blocks many years ago and had the similar but opposite problem. She shuddered and shook under brakes and locked up VERY easily! Turned out the load valve thought there was too much weight on the back, because of the lowering and it had 11 inch drums on the back. 2 inches worth of travel on that vehicle was equal to over half a tonne of load. Remounted the non adjustable lever and was good as gold again. Was pretty scary coming down the mountains with a tail happy van!

Highly HIGHLY suggest anti seize where possible. Literally did this yesterday lol. Helped some friends put in new bilstein stuff like these on their tacoma (I don't know if they're the same but everything here looks exactly like theirs) and the previous owner had done some slight mods and they didn't put any anti seize on anything and there was a light bit of crust on everything and I swear every bolt was seized. Even after a day of wd40 soaking. Got it done but man. Use anti seize people!! You'll thank yourself in the future!

You probably should have covered spring rates on the front too, going too heavy can really ruin the ride. There's also a trap there for people that buy the proper engine (1GR) because it weighs 75kg less than the diesel, but most off-the-shelf lifts are rated for the diesel because it's more common, which means most V6's are oversprung from the get-go, even more so if they get talked into using a heavy spring for barwork and winch.

people forget that if your carrying let’s say a swag an esky and that’s about it like a majority of people, the comfort spring will be perfect there’s no point destroying your spine and ruining your comfort by having heavy duty leafs when your gonna be carrying not much at all, 100kg parabolic leafs in my n80 is perfectly comfortable and flexes not bad in the rear for a leaf sprung vehicle

Watching this video makes me think that you go over the disassembly and reassembly of the front upper control arms way too fast. There's next to nothing showing it. More about commercials for specific parts. Another point is, that on my own cars at least, it is specifically said to load the car ½ with wheels on ground, so position of bushings are correct when torqued. Otherwise they may be preloaded when they shouldn't. I mention these points as I suppose some viewers of this video will watch it because they want some tips to the work at hand. Other than that, great video. Thanks for sharing.

You really need a disclaimer somewhere here. This can be so dangerous for someone that “thinks” they can do this because they can change their own oil. Heavy lifting which tough dog recommend more then 1 person for & heavily loaded springs. I like the video but some people are going to look at this, attempt it and get hurt.

Having just replace the rear pipes on a mates d22 who years ago done the paint to protect like you said, I strongly disagree. Every fitting was seized, even managing to snap a bleed nipple off, when we were due to bleed the new fixings. Guess how much fun that was at the farm shed he rents, with no spare nipple or wheel cylinder!!. So the new fittings were anti-seize coated on reassembly. On my Landies I use nickel based anti-seize. It's compatible with more metals than just copper or aluminium anti-seize.
