Regardless of the stories that the two films have, what really drew me into this series was the wildlife of Pandora itself. How alien, yet oddly has a sense of familiarity. Written and designed in such a way that makes them seem rather believable in the world that they're upon.

Sperm whales are also believed to have cultures accents languages etc. - everything that was highlighted in the tolkan.

I just saw the second movie the other day. I have to hand it to Cameron when he created this world. I noticed that every creature has subtle differences in color and pattern to make them unique. I love the Ilu, Tulkan, Ikran, and Toruk. I also love the Thanator, Viper Wolf, Titanithere, and Dire Horse. Cameron used not only creatures alive today as a basis but also creatures that are extinct. Titanothere’s name is based of the largest group of sauropods(long necked dinosaurs) called Titanosaurs. There armor is based off of Ankylosaur armor. Thanatos could have a relation to both the saber tooth cat Smilodon in relation to body size and muscle power and the modern lion in relation to jaw power. Both the Ikran and Toruk are based of the pterosaurs and their dynamics of flying. The Ilu are based off of Plesiosaurs and Elasmosaurs but I think the closest one would be Clyptocleidus which is a relatively smaller plesiosaur. I noticed that in the second movie there was a creature whose jaws looked like they resembled Dunkleosteus. The viper wolf would not only be akin to modern hyenas but to a species of animal known as Hyaenadon. It was small in stature but powerful and had guillotine like jaws. The Dire Horse would be akin to the modern Clydesdale in size and stature but also akin to hummingbirds and ant eaters with their long tongues. And last but not least, the Tulkan is akin to both modern sperm whales and to the megamouth shark or the whale shark with their ability to open their mouths to such a degree
@DraconiInfernalus Жыл бұрын
Fan lizards 😍 they don't play a big role at all but loved them at first sight. Then my faves are Banshees and the Thanator. They created so many beautiful creatures. Viperwolves are gorgeous too, love the hyena-sounds they used for them. All are unique in their own way. Love the 2nd movie too but a bit more because of the different bioluminescence. The night scenes of the movies are the ones i am longing for every time ❤

However, thinking more on it those Queues (if that's what they are) might be for mating purposes like what Jake and Neytiri did and the Na'vi do between a mated pair. Tulkuns are sentient creatures like Humans and Na'vi so those Queues might be only used between a mated pair like we see with Na'vi. I do wonder what the evolutionary advantage the Queue inside their mouths would be for. Could just be a sensory organ that has the dual purpose of being a Queue to use with Na'vi and their Spirit brother or sister.

9:53 I differ from that opinion. Although Ikrans and Toruks share the same feather-like structure. Overall they have a vastly different bodyplan. They would have the same amount of relativeness a Pterosaur and a Monitor Lizard have (Not quite much). First of all. The Wing distribution: Ikrans have the first and third pair of limbs specialized for flight while the second is absent or vestigial at best. Toruk on the other hand has their first and second pair of limbs specialized for flight and the third one exclusively for walking/Climbing of grasping pray without risking the precious wings (Resembling the Eagles Hunting Tecnique). Body Plan: Toruk has a shortened tail with an oversized hip ends where the second pair of wings attach while Ikrans have an alongated tail. Although the tail size is irrelevant, the hip structure can play an important role in the difference. Ancestor: Maybe the antiquest ancestor of almost all flying creatures in Pandora could have had a Wing structure similar to the Stingbat, but only a single pair of wings used for gliding and the other two being used more like breaks which doesn't add up either, because Toruk don't have any trace of a vesigial air break in their hindlimbs.
@hartoramasenju4012 Жыл бұрын
I have a theory that Ikran evolved from aquatic creature and are relatives to Tsurak (the giant flying fish) due to their homology (both have vestigial 2nd pair of legs, both have one tail, both have lifelong bond, and Ikran capability to swim to some extent) while Toruk was evolved from totally different lineage. They differentiate and goes to divergent evolution to adapt to their new niche, Ikran as agile flying predator and Tsurak as semi aquatic predator. Toruk and Ikran capability to fly are probably the result of convergent evolution due to their similar niche
@hoshikun6605 Жыл бұрын
@@hartoramasenju4012 Emmmmm Skimmwings have their 6 limbs present. Their snout is not that fish like and the morphology of the teeth is way different. Skimmwings for instance don't have retractable teeth and Ikrans have a particularly large teeth in front of their mouth which Skimmwings lack. Also. The wings don't add up. Ikran wings ARE modified arms, not fins. I get why you say it, but just because some creatures share some features with our animals doesn't mean they have the same origin

(If you are interested in Tulkens or Payakans read this comment!) Spoilers ahead! Payakan, also known as “The Killer Tulken” is very dangerous he killed other tulkens, not for fun but for him to protect himself cuz when the “ Sky People” attack, they killed and made dozens of Tulkens deaf because in the brain of a tulken has this yellow liquid that if use on humans or maybe Na’vi’s can make then age forever, but not immortal so Payakan being scared AND lived the first time sky people attack makes him scared of everything not only that, he got shot in the fin and also half of his other fin got cut of. Lo’ak was 100,000% lucky because not only Payakan saved him from a small tulken (that can kill) they were FRIENDS, and the reason is the Payakan might be Lo’ak spirit brother, but this is not clear. Though I appreciate the amount of information given in the video about the various animals of Pandora, i do have some complaints about the video. The first has to be about Toruk, he says it's 'roughly translates to final shadow' when Neytiri explicitly says last shadow. And the are multiple other animals where the description is not overly explained if at all like with the Thanator, he only points out that it's a big panther(some how gets lion into that), the flaps and antenna coming off them and nothing rlly else, same thing with the hammerhead where he only calls out it's head, feather like flaps and behavior and nothing about it's armor which I think is an important description. Another major complaint is his definition of the bond between rider and banshee which ticked me off as a hard fan of avatar. (There are other examples) Overall the video is great and gives information not shown in the movies but it's the lack of care in even trying to explain what is either important to the movies or certain creatures description really gives off a bad vibe.
