It's great to see the effort the staff put in to raising this baby. No small cages for her! So important to realize that the baby needs 24 hour care. And I love that they expose her to other orangutans. I feel so sorry for other baby orangutans who have list their birth mothers. Even the babies in the rehab facilities don’t have this constant care. Bravo, zoo team!

After 50 years she will get use to the exhibit I would imagine. But yes it is good for the baby to get sun. I think all orangutans chimpanzees and gorillas should be in the forest where they belong. Also thanks to all the caregivers

They should be but unfortunately we've screwed that up royally by destroying the forests. I'm just glad we have a chance to make that right.

When they are in captivity and people put them in cages that's one of the reasons why they are traumatized and so sad because they don't have another body to clean to

If these things r becoming or close to being extinct why can’t they be turned loose in other areas or country’s with bigger forest
@sarahbrown5373
@sarahbrown5373 5 жыл бұрын
that's a good question. The answer is that the forest they live in has to have the right kind of trees for them to be able to find the food that they need to eat, and the leaves that they need for building nests. The trees also have to be the right kind for them to be able to live in the canopy, where they're safe from predators. In the wild, they never touch the ground until they fall out of the tree dead. The trees in Borneo, Sumatra, and the Amazon provide the fruits that keep them hydrated and healthy. So, they wouldn't be able to survive in other kinds of forests. The rainforests that they depend on only exist in a few countries, and are shrinking. It would be amazing if they could be able to live wild in other areas, but they simply can't.

"We'll walk around the zoo at dusk, and that's good exercise for her." Good exercise for who, the orangtuan or the keeper? As far as I can tell, the keeper is literally just carrying the orangutan around...

They are speaking of her clinging while the carwgiver is walking,and her getting to see and hear the other animals so she will be use to the sounds and it won't be scary,sitting in a tiny room ,is not doing snything for her.

Orangutans at her age wouldn’t walk around. You can see she’s so young she can barely move. She would be with her mother the entire time.
@LocoGeorge123
@LocoGeorge123 3 жыл бұрын
Orangutan babies are for all intents and purposes human babies. You wouldn't try to force a newborn human to walk lmao, on average in the wild they stay clinging to their mothers almost exclusively until they are 1 year old, then they start climbing around by themselves little by little. Males stay with their moms until about 9 years old and females a few years longer to learn how to raise babies from their mother when she has her next child. Just look how tiny she is, walk around? lol They rarely walk on the ground in the wild because of Tigers, Leopards, poisonous snakes, monitor lizards etc their child rearing length is second longest in the animal kingdom only next to humans.

And she'll live 2.5 times longer then wild orangutans. But don't be complaining about taking care of her because people would like tens of thousands of dollars to do what you people do.

Orangutan is just like human baby.... it takes lots of time to survive on his own..... so he wont be able to exist in this universe... It takes 5 to 6 years to pregnant and again 6 years to separate from his mother..

Because orangutan is sensitive and prone to desease just like human being. If the caretaker got flu or cough the orangutan will get it too.

It should be ILLEGAL to emprison these amazing animals in their tiny zoo exhibits. They are essentially in jail. Send them to a sanctuary in Borneo!!!! This is disgusting.
@solitairecatnaps4444
@solitairecatnaps4444 4 жыл бұрын
Their forest habitat is quickly disappearing as the trees are cleared for logging and row after row of oil palms are planted. There are a few sanctuaries that take in the orphans whose mothers are killed by poachers, but they do not have unlimited space for releasing the adults after they are rehabilitated. They are doing the best they can. The captive orangutans in zoos may be the only ones left in another 50 years.

All these zoos and so called sanctuaries will come up with any reason to hand raise any ape species. Just an excuse to have a cute pet that you get paid to have, with none of the responsibility.
