Good tip: If there no coolant in the engine the coolant temp sensor will read very inaccurate. It will still show it getting to hot based on the temperature of the metal around it but it also won't accurately show the hottest points like the cylinder walls and such. Oil temps can help but are also still a little vague when running a dry block.

depending on the location, it may be reading "steam" temperature or it could read very low from lack of steam/any flow at all. there's been many factory sensor locations that read both ways over the years. the older iron engines with gauge/warning light sensor threaded into the head was great. up on the intake manifold is bad, worse is them being off the engine on a multi-hole tee in the heater hose feeding heater core (yes, I'm pointing at you ford with the very popular 3.0L of the past)

I believe this installment featured a couple of recoveries that were possibly slightly revealing (unintentionally) of how frustrating and taxing Matt’s job can be on a day-to-day basis. Matt and his crews spend many hours on the road just going to and from recoveries. And then when they have to actually turn around and go get a different vehicle or a trailer??Particularly at night or during inclement weather - because of something like this? I just can’t even imagine the level of frustration and weariness adding a whole additional several hours trip to the job….🤦🏻♂️. Maybe those are times when (for some tow company owners) it’s good to be the business owner and are able to just quit and go home lol. Can’t see Matt doing that although wouldn’t blame him if he ever had to. There’s certainly can be weather safety scenarios, where that may be absolutely necessary. In which case, Matt’s would probably load his crew and the customers up and take them all to the nearest town for dinner and put them all up in the hotel overnight…

That's what I was thinking too. Btw, not the thermostat but the temperature sensor. But yeah, if the temp sensor is poking into fresh air and not the coolant as it is meant to, it won't be accurate.

@@Beary98 No problem. Years ago, I was driving my first little shitty car, and it burnt a piston, which led to a coolant loss. The temperature reading would go up and then start coming down when the coolant level was too low. Fortunately figured it out, and managed to limp home by topping up the coolant with water every time it started coming down. Didn't really make the repair any cheaper, but at least I got home...

Matt, I'm from the middle east and I never understood why people use worn out tires for sand dunes. just an example: M8070 / Size: 900/16 115N from maxxis, is widely used here in the gulf region. or any 900 tire that has no tread and is shaped like a balloon. to my knowledge they just soften the ride on dunes and maybe makes the car free roll, but not necessarily made for towing/being better. but I'm not an expert on that matter.
@dyyylllaannn Жыл бұрын
the sand is so loose, the tread on the tire acts as a shovel combined with the weight of the vehicle. when the tire has no tread, it does not sink down into the sand.

I happen to a a kinetic energy rope in my 6x6 SBS I backed up to him in the swamp connected the rope and give it the gas. it took three tugs to get it out but it came out. Got back to my truck loaded up and they had not made it out of the woods. I gave them a call back and found the Truck coming out over the mountain with the 4x4 and lost four wheel drive and was now stuck on the other side of the mountains. I unloaded again and pulled the truck up the mountain, What a night glad I had one of your Ropes.

13:15 on the other hand, a car probably has a much smoother ride than blue still has long as you're not bottoming out. I have experienced that on dirt roads where I had too slow down a lot more with a truck (especially empty) than with a car (I'm not talking about a low sport car on low profile tire of course, but a sedan with a suspension tuned for comfort).

Matt show is always great. We need a few shows on the. technology of your work broken down. For example. A show on different types of tires vs. what you are driving in. Your tip on bald tires was great in the sand. Triangle of death? Bridle vs straight tow. For those with jeep going into water area, should you have a way to get tailpipe in the air reducing water into engine. How much air in the tire vs. conditions entering. You have the video to show how all of your tech works in the field. Many people will use this as a guide for how to set up vehicle based on time of year and conditions for their vehicles.

Amazing work as always and thank you for sharing your exploits with the world! Your pintle strap routing is interesting and I can see how it would really promote overall safety for your customers. I do quite a lot of volunteer vehicle recovery for Gambler 500 and off road groups in TX and OK and I'm interested in learning more about this method, as an alternative using the recovery points on my custom swing out bumper. Any idea of the stress levels? Any thoughts on a stock FZJ80 TLC/LX450 rear axle assembly? Don't think about the axle as much as the leaf spring attachment
@josiahdegroot53412 жыл бұрын
I would think about where the forces are and what stresses are being put on the other things. If you think about it the rope is pulling backwards on the diff very similarly to how it would if you just had a soft shacks around it. So the stress is on the housing itself which then puts stress on the diff mounts. Which ever force is weaker: the vehicle being towed , the diff, or the mounts is what will break first. I notice that Matt isn’t using it so much to recover, but to tow, so I think there is not as much stress on the components as if you were doing bumps, or a full recovery.
