Matt, on your new trailer design, unless you going with a 7k rated torsion axle, you might want to look at the solid axle used on the military M101a3 trailer axle. First it's a raised axle, secondly it's designed for much heavier loads, third, it's got huge hydraulic brakes, and has individual parking brakes, and uses the GM 8 bolt wheel pattern.

I still say. After the wrecker. Take a crew cab, long bed 3/4 or 1 ton. Cut to standard cab. Put tandem rear end in. 6 wheel drive. @14’ foot long 8’ wide aluminum power tilt bed. Winch. You could get all the heavy UTV , side by sides. And many smaller off road SUVs loaded, driven out. Plus it should be decent in pulling out stuck vehicles if Banana on expedition, Morevair down, and Rudicon being modified.

The UTV's are getting huge now. I have a first gen RZR, 50 inches wide, 8 feet long and maybe 1,200lbs full of fuel and all the accessories. Now they're bigger and heavier than my old scout or first jeep from years ago. Now you need a trailer every bit as big as the one you would need for the trucks. The ingenuity you put into your filming is as good as the thought process going into the recoveries. Great work.

That dude needed some extra length of hose too. Matt. I bet one reason for the Morrvair's transmission problem is that the gearing is too tall..On the slower, steeper technical trails, it just sounded like there was too much reliance on the torque converter. That stresses the whole transmission.
@thelol1759
@thelol1759 2 жыл бұрын
I remember they did that intentionally to avoid gear shifts while going up sand dunes, but you’re also definitely right. Maybe they need to get some custom Sonnex gears?
@gregparrott
@gregparrott 2 жыл бұрын
@@thelol1759 I looked up 'Sonnex', but found 'Sonnax'. It looks like they specialize in gears for the venerable Powerglide, which I doubt the Morrvair uses. I had one in my '67 Camaro before swapping in a Doug Nash 5 speed. Powerglides are reliable and are often modified for drag racing. But you need more gears and a wider set of ratios to cover everything from freeway driving to steep rock crawling. Some transfer cases (e.g. New Process) offer a wide variety of gear sets for the Hi and Lo ranges. Swapping gears there and modifying a 4L80E (4 speed, with overdrive top gear) transmission seems like a better choice.

Are you really that stupid? You have been corrected on this in quite a few previous comments, but yet you keep on saying this.

Seems like everyone has a story about that particular cattle guard, haha! My dad sent it over that one a little too hard with our old '89 Suburban on a scout camp and blew a couple tires, and I lost a tire about the same way on the car I drove in high school. Family tradition I guess?

25 years ago I hit that cattle guard way to fast on date with my wife. In the rearview mirror I saw my 40 lb toolbox hovering in the air. LOL. Good thing I had a topper on my truck or it would have flown out.

Hey all, been watching for a long time, i noticed when you trailer anything and load up , you use ramps... have you ever considered modifying your trailer to a texas rollback style trailer? You roll up, lock a trailer brake, pull a pin between the trailer axel, then back up. The trailer bed moves back, then tilts down at the rear, the axel stays in place . On a long trailer this can ramp low enough you could drive a skateboard on... look it up.. happy trails..steve in NY

I'm always amazed at how cool and collected the entire crew is during these recoveries, no matter how challenging or how many setbacks you experience. I would be blowing my fuse in so many ways not allowed on KZbin. Obviously, you're all made for this type of work. And great family. Thanks for taking us along the way.

Such a crazy coincidence. When ed was doing the weather I said to myself, I haven't seen him smoking in ages, I wonder if he quit or they just don't show it. Well now I know. Lol. These guys go above and beyond to make this a family friendly channel. Well done my friends.

So 2 things! It was funny seeing Matt go up back wards because he doesn't like going up forward 😂 And Jamie did Matt get out and look at the trailer tires to see if they would go over the big Rocks or was he just lucky? 😉

I really enjoy your work it is amazing the predicaments folks get into. I'm wondering if anyone else has a problem with the sound. On my desktop I need to keep my hand on the volume control and crank it up to hear the voices and then when the music comes on I need to crank it way down. At 83 my hearing isn't the best.
