As a paramedic for 10 years we definitely don't give these people enough credit. Radiology is so underrated.

When I was an undergrad, I visited an alumnus from my school who is a radiologist. I just wanted to chat with him and ask questions about possible career choices. He answered me while looking at the screen the whole time in a dark room, just as shown in this video. It blew my mind how these people work.

Thank you for all the hard work you do. But how depressing to be stuck in a windowless room like that.

Yep, I never understood people who pick radiology. You get almost no interaction with patients. They have a good pay but the job is boring and depressing. Some of them do fellowships where they learn to perfom some inteventions but the hours of reading are daunting.

@@annajones9701 This job won't exist in a couple of years, with machine learning you can read MRI better than docs. I guess they could still do some procedures but they would have to interact with patients.

I worked in an ER for 30 years. Radiologists are incredibly valuable members of the patient care team. Their technology and skills have dramatically improved the quality of medical care. There are many, may patients that I have cared for that are alive and well, thanks to the skills of radiologists.

I find it interesting that many of the comments indicate machine reading is more accurate than MDs. I see the gross inaccuracies still so prevalent just in EKG computer readouts and I have to wonder a little...

There is neural network named Alpha Zero which learns from it's own mistakes and the mistakes of others. Once they figure out how to get it to read radiographs and EKG's, it will probably replace humans. albeit slowly over time
