Just had me and my wife's first baby Saturday at 2:22am. It's such a surreal experience. But even more surreal is walking these hospital halls and just seeing myself as a resident on my way to a patient's room after I do an ir operation and making my rounds. Nice setup, Doc. As a suggestion, if you plan to do much video recording in there, you may want to invest in some sound dampening foam cones on the walls. It would take out some of the echo you have with so many bare surfaces. 🙂

I've seen some crazy home setups, they remind me of high volume day traders. 15 monitors stacked five wide and three high, with battery-operated moving, lifting, and reclining ergonomic work station chairs.

Maybe some floating shelves for your desk items, like the award and the orchid? And just a little pop of color, like a photo or a painting could also help the aesthetics and tie your room together. I’m no interior designer, just hopefully some helpful suggestions. It’s a wicked crazy setup otherwise!

I was curious about an at home setup since you showed the setup in progress a few videos back. So you don't have to report using a PACS /medical imaging spec'd monitor?

I would double check if you have extra warranty protection on the credit card you used to purchase the monitor! I know mine doubles the warranty up to a year. So with your one year warranty you had with the monitor. You may just have an extra year. It’s worth checking.

Surprised that no one has commented on the dictation microphone, I use the PowerMic as well and I am not a doctor. Even though the box says it's the number one input device for physicians, anyone can use it if they have the appropriate Dragon software. The software isn't cheap, and neither is the hardware, but it does wonderful things. It works with Dragon Professional 15 and above, as well as various medical editions of Dragon. I would imagine that Michael uses either Dragon Medical Practice Edition, or if it's the recent cloud-based version, Dragon Medical One. The buttons on the microphone are fully configurable, and I have set them up to match my workflow. However, I just write, I'm not a doctor so I would imagine that the button assignment is different for that purpose. The accuracy that you get with a decent microphone is astounding.

You get spoiled by the $10k monitors even just in passing. I'm just a rad tech but even just watching the rads read on their monitors....makes you jealous of those monitors. Retina Displays from Apple don't really come close, particularly with contrast.

You can dictate on your phone to using power mic mobile app if you don't want to use the physical mic, I think the same vendor nuance as your physical mic.

absolutely NOT. If you are reading to diagnose you need clinical Diagnostic reading monitors, The most common brand is BARCO. If you are doing review, there are part 14 compliant monitors from dell and LG.

Are there any concerns from your Imaging Informatics or compliance departments about ensuring monitor brightness for proper reading? I'm dealing with compliance issues regarding monitor standards, specifically on continuous light output measurement and the ability to consistently track monitor life, do you have to manage that on your PACS with your home based monitors? You sir are right on the money! There are two types of monitors, Clinical Diagnostic monitors (monitors like barco 3MP and 5MP) and Clinical review monitors (part 14 monitors by dell and lg). If they are reading MAMO's there are HUGE laws to follow when it comes to monitors. When they are reading Xrays or anything else they can use part 14 clinical review monitors. But all monitors need yearly auditing of color/gama/contrast calibration and monitoring. we have to document the drift of each monitor incase we get called into a lawsuit or review.

Physicians do not routinely perform ultrasounds. Sonographers/Ultrasound technologists do all the scanning

I would suggest getting a chair the has better arm support, should be perpendicular to the desk so your not stressing your shoulder too much. Great desk

Hello. I really like your setup. But I would like to ask you if your company allows you to use a non-diagnostic monitor to read studies on? The luminance itself should be sufficient, but it doesn't adhere to DICOM GSDF standard, has no luminance sensor, ambient light sensor, isn't FDA certified - where I live they require you to have a diagnostic screen even for home radiology.

DICOM/PACS computers are pretty standard these days. Most DICOM software can run just about anything. Tho most workstations end up with the following build, A xeon with ecc ram and a Quadro Gpu. If it is a reading workstation you need a BARCO reading monitor and custom barco GPU.

You are absolutely correct. None of the monitors shown meet the requirements for reading. They don't even qualify as Part-14 clinical review monitors. I bet he also doesn't calibrate and document monitor color/gama/contrast drift. If ever called in for a lawsuit, He is using non compliant, uncalibrated, undocumented monitors with unknown drift. Huge Yikes.
