Things you can do at a convenience store in Taiwan: 1. Have a meal/drink 2. Pay your bills 3. Get / pay for tickets ( train /high speed rail/concert) 4. Get the stuff you purchased online 5. Print stuff 6. Some places have seats where you can sit / read /hang out And while 7-11 in Taiwan is pretty good at what it does, I personally prefer familymart when it comes to convenient store foods , especially after they changed their recipes, you can now get something more delicious at a cheaper price than what you get at 7-11

Local Taiwanese people actually do not eat the convenient store food unless they don't have a choice. Most people would rather eat in food stalls/small restaurants on the street. For example, in 7-11 the beef rice is about $4 per item, however if you go find a braised pork rice stall anywhere, you could have a full meal for $5. A bowl of braised pork rice is only $1.

Having visited both I'd say Taiwan's 7-11 definitely is even better than Japan's. Unbelievable variety of services, and spacious, clean internal with seats to sit and eat and rest. 7-11 and Starbucks in Taiwan are operated by the same corporation, so the draw of 7-11 coffee is that it basically uses Starbucks beans. I'm not sure if that is actually true, but at least it was the marketing at one point. The FamilyMart in Taiwan rivals 7-11 in my opinion. Hope you enjoyed your time in Taiwan.

There are 7-11 in airports as well. They have similar food items that you can heat up in the microwave. Usually when you pay for them, the cashier will ask if you would like them to heat it up so you can just wait a bit after paying. And no tip needed. Taiwan has excellent service without having to pay tip, some restaurants do charge 10% into the bill though. Here in US you need to tip regardless and most of the time the service is just meh.

Also, you’ll be surprised at how much less sodium and sugar are in Taiwanese food. We don’t like our food to be super salty or super sweet. In Taiwan, there’s a lot of dark chocolate sweets bc Taiwanese don’t like overwhelming sweet stuff. For example, the Costco in Taiwan actually has both dark and milk chocolate Swiss miss to purchase. Here in the US, only milk chocolate. Also most Taiwanese will drink bubble tea at 30% sugar and at most 50% sugar. We always buy the lower sodium spam and lower sodium bacon at Costco here in the states. I cannot eat regular lays, only the lightly salted ones.
