Just a small side note...traditionally pastizzi come in two different fillings: ricotta or mashed peas. The chicken variation was introduced quite recently and some (if not most) Maltese people (myself included) consider it as an insult towards a traditional snack.... It is basically like saying im going to replace the guanciale with sausage in a carbonara
@AlexMarkTravel
@AlexMarkTravel 12 күн бұрын
Well that chicken pastizzi is the only one with proper taste(again depends where you buy it). Ricotta one is OK, but usually too stuffed with the cheapest very bland ricotta. And piselli/pea one I can't even eat, mashed peas paste. Generally the pastry itself is very crunchy and tasty, but 98% of them on the island are factory made, with the cheapest materials, very greasy and unhealthy. Though the *only cheap* and very quick option to eat in the streets in Malta are pastizzi and other very similar pastries from pastizzi shops.
@joelchan0
@joelchan0 12 күн бұрын
@@AlexMarkTravel not arguing about the taste obviously....then again if you re looking to taste the best pastizzi, base your judgement on the proper pastizzi shop (the ones that sell a few other things other than pastizzi since most pastizzerias nowadays sell anything ranging from hot dogs to wraps and dont even have the basics done right)
@AlexMarkTravel
@AlexMarkTravel 12 күн бұрын
@@joelchan0 I tried the hand made pastizzi in Rabat, in that restaurant where they make their own. Pastry was much lighter, much better, you notice a big difference, but kind of industrial ones with ricotta were overall still tastier.

A golden rule of thumb if you're eating here, is that if a place looks it's designed to look "attractive" then it's pretty much a tourist trap and will be way overpriced, especially for more exotic foods like Asian or Mexican. Locals rarely eat at the food court, colloquially known as Is-Suq due to its former usage as a market, and tend to go dine at more reserved out of the way spots like Angela's and San Paolo Naufrago, who possibly makes the best pizza in the city.

when i was in Malta a few weeks ago, i keep smelling this sweet scent used by men in Valletta. It smelled like citrus and floral, with some hints of musk and leather. most men used this, not sure if it is an aftershave or a perfume. does anyone know what it is?

Thanks for making a video about Malta. 2 things to say, the rabbit had large pieces of raw meat which is not good and the cannoli were Sicilian type cannoli not Maltese.
@AlexMarkTravel
@AlexMarkTravel 4 ай бұрын
The rabbit was cooked well, wasn't raw for sure, though there are several ways they cook it on the island. When it comes to cannoli they are originally Sicilian. Maltese version have very different ricotta inside, not as good in my opinion.

Angela's restoran je definitivno bio highlight ove ture. Da li se svaka stavka kod njih posebno poručuje ili im je ovo neki dnevni meni za 23.90€ ?

I like the food at valletta merkanti but a lot of the restaurants there are extremely overpriced. A soup with an empanada side and no drinks at Pinoy for example is 20 euros which is straight up robbery considering the soup has very little noodles and meat inside of it. Not only they charge too much but they go cheap on quantities. But i admit the broth was very delicious, however the empanadas were the frozen types and not worth the money.

I agree it is kind of expensive especially as this place is advertised as street food court, but prices are on pair with normal restaurants around Valletta.

Can I walk from the cruise port to Zero sei trattoria. If so how long should it take. I will be in Valletta in October.
@AlexMarkTravel
@AlexMarkTravel 22 күн бұрын
Yes, you can, it will take you some 15-20 minutes max. Use Google Maps it's really not far away. Especially as those restaurants at the Waterfront, where's the cruise port are cruiser-tourist traps. So, smart idea to walk a bit for cheaper and much better food.

Hello Again.. I posted a comment about your stay in Rome,last time, maybe you remeber. I was that one wondering where you from. Want to give my opinion about the "Roman cuisine" you found in Malta. "Fiori di zucca" were way too fried and the shape was strange and they were suppost to have anchovies inside to be done in roman style.Lasagna was too oily and greasy without the top crust as it is intended.Sorry it s not THE way has to be done. I think you may accept criticism.. anyway where ARE YOU FROM??
@AlexMarkTravel
@AlexMarkTravel 4 ай бұрын
Hello again, yes I accept suggestions and criticism and thank you for pointing out these things. I am still learning about Italian cuisine and I am originally from Serbia. Now in the centre of Rome I ate lasagna which was much worse than the frozen one from Lidl. So this Roman food in Malta even though it's missing on some details as you pointed out it was still great and very fresh food. I apologise if my knowledge of Italian food isn't top level, but I still know more than some people who do food vlogging much longer than me. And I accept suggestions as I want to improve and know more about Italian food especially. So if you have any suggestions for proper restaurants in Rome plese email me. 🙂

Hi,Alex I m pleased to help you out and you dont have to apologise because for being someone who was not born here you are doing well. As you said food quality in the center of Rome it s just tourist shit as I remarked in my previuos post. Are You in Rome now?? If So I will arrange some tips to give you. ЗДРАВО.

Well tacos were missing one component by which they are famous the mixed salad and the chicken wasn't hot, but hey it didn't send me to the toilet like the fresh pasta in Rome 😅. The other dish is their own combination of nachos and queso fundido, but that beef stew inside was really good, tender and tasty, does it originally go into queso fundido I doubt. 😄

Why not? This is food of Malta, most of restaurants are foreign food, even the most eaten fish in Malta is Salmon from Norway, not the local fish. I ate pastizzi and after that rabbit as well, and the rest of the food just shows what food choices you have in Valletta.
