I am a big lover of good sensory pleasuring clothing for autism as being a person on the spectrum I am always on the hunt for autism sensory clothing.
Other the past few years I have collected every piece I could find form different brands that I found to be very good!
So I decided to just wear only sensory clothing for 24 hours to see if it made a difference in my day to do when I am usually mix and matching clothing (mainly for style).
The results are surprising and super interesting. I will leave a link for all the clothing that I am using so you can find it for yourself and try this experiment.
There are very few actually good autism sensory clothing brands out there for autistic people but the few that do work and perfect.
I have favourites and these are the ones I used in this experiment.
To make it a fair test I actually filmed a regularly day vlog diary of wearing a mix of clothing to compare.
Let me know your thoughts on this.

Love that some of the more popular clothing brands are designing with sensory issues in mind. My 16-year-old had to wear dress clothes to his brother’s wedding last week. He mostly wears soft tees and athletic shorts, so this is difficult for him. Dress pants, long sleeved collared dress shirt & tie, dress shoes. And it was an outdoor event, warm, windy and humid. 😬 I was so proud - he did great! For 5 hours! That tie came off as soon as we got in the car to leave!

I recommend anyone who struggles with Natural fibers like cotton blends, wools, (Most) denims and canvas/Chino materials to try Synthetic polyester/artificial silk blends. They are amazing.! Below is a helpful guide in finding comfortable clothing if natural fibres or materials irritate you or make you uncomfortable. I also struggle with SPD and I cannot wear natural materials because to me they feel too much like super rough masonry sand paper to me. When I wear cotton my back gets all itchy and sore as if someone just scolded my back with boiling water and then rubbed sand paper on my 2nd degree burns, partnered with the occasional rough label for me it is sensory hell. So to combat this problem I avoid any super tight fitting clothing and aim for more sporty or lose fitting clothing often made from poly elastane, poly cotton, artificial silk, artificial fleece or polyester fibres. Sometimes I find something natural which is bearable but it is extremely rare for me and if I like anything that contains natural fibres I have to get in lined with artificial satin or synthetic silks so that the fibres don't have me itching my self sore. There are many brands that do materials like this and there is one particular material that I find extremely pleasing, calming and comfortable and that is. Polyester silk fleece. Often popularized by brands like Fila, Armani EA7, EVERLAST and Under Armour. This hard to describe material has the feeling of soft onesie fleece on the inside and soft silk like artificial polyester material on the outside(often satin soft to the touch). When ever I find a garment with this material I thank all the sensory gods out there as it feel like literal slightly weighted clouds when wearing. For an example here is a garment made with this material type. ---------------------- Disclaimer this is, in no way to point anyone in the direction of any online stores or brands this is to simply to try explain this amazing material I found with some level of representation of what the material may look like for if you come across it in the real world. And that I do not have any malicious intent to influence, prompt, incite, inspire or endorse any purchasing of product, garment, item or brand shown on these sites and that I am solely trying to show, what I am trying to convey or explain and show some representation or examples of such material in use within the fashion industry. With garments I find physically pleasing to wear due to my struggles with SPD. Please do not take these link out of context, as I do not intend to funnel or damage the traffic from this person; Influencer; KZbinr and that these links are solely give as a informative material/fabric recommendation and to give an insightful view upon such material I found helpful in my personal experience. Thank you for understanding, my true intent of informative experience sharing and not the selling of products as I find such actions wrongfully disrespectful when it comes to sharing advice over selling something. These are examples and should be treated as such. Apologies for long Disclaimer. I don't want people to think I am trying to sell anything because I'm am honestly not I'm simply giving examples and that's it. 🙂 ---------------- Here is a jacket with the material l found extremely helpful for SPD m.jdsports.co.uk/product/black-fila-poly-tape-track-top/16119534/?cm_mmc=googleshop-_-google-_-shopping-_-pla&istCompanyId=9c5cf6f7-3142-4f9f-be57-2fce9c67adfd&istFeedId=014e8b49-620d-4e56-9e87-79529c403af2&istItemId=ialqlxptp&istBid=tzxi&gclid=CjwKCAjw3pWDBhB3EiwAV1c5rDe8OOOX5Brv1Gh33imZFSIIOPDsWNAbnUCnzwxz3D2WNPP9MJZWtRoCxccQAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds The material is a little shimmery but I find that this material when worn is extremely comfortable and amazing to wear. Also because it is designed for sporting activities it has a pleasant cooling effect when worn so you'll won't get hot and bothered when wearing it. You can also find this material on Hoodies, Tracksuit bottoms, hats, shoe flaps/tongues and t shirt detailing. Other fantastic materials for SPD is soccer/football jersey material style t-shirts. Usually polyester/poly-elastic/poly-cotton based theses T-shirts are great for a comfortable lose fit. Often found via brands such as Adidas, Nike, ellesse and some Supermarket sporting own brands. Another great brand Is Under Armour. Design with comfort and efficiency in mind most Under Armour garments use their signature high quality cushioned fabrics and materials. There is a popular Hoodie design by this brand and it is often noticed by the large under armour logo placed centred on the chest area of the hoodie. This hoodie has a sponge like fleece material which is extremely fantastic for people who desire comfort in which the Garment is roomy and cozy at the same time. Although recommended to only wear on chilly/cold weather or places as you'll find your self melting if you wear it during rather hot weather or places, as it is designed for performance and so it keeps a lot of heat in for helping to burn calories for the gym goers. Also do not get trapped in a rain storm, wearing it, is as I said it's sponge like. It holds water like crazy so if worn wet you will get sick, trust me, I learnt that the hard way so the hoodie is best worn on windy days, cold or snowy days or indoors for added comfort as lounge/sleep wear. For those people who cannot handle cotton tight fitting underwear I recommend silk boxer shorts they may be a little "I'm a posh guy in a big house with my name on my pajamas" fancy but I promise you they feel so much more comfier than the usual horrible uncomfortable cotton ones. They are also fantastic with eczema flare ups as they irritate the skin a lot less. You can find a 3 pack pair on Amazon for £12 they are a little pricy but are so 100% worth it. Now denim... It is hard I'm talking Very difficult to find a brand with near to no discomfort in. But I do have a solution for people who struggle with natural fibres. Lining! Read reply for other haft as I ran out of characters.

We can take a nudge from the sports department here again. Some garments often by Adidas, Lonsdale and Nike have Nylon Tracksuits designs that are Lined with various materials often netting but we want to look beyond that. If you invert a pair of nylon Adidas trackies you will notice near the bottom of the garment near the zips(or not) you'll find a rather pleasant nylon silk/almost satin material this stuff is amazing. Stop I'm not telling you to buy a bunch of theses no. What I'm trying to say is if you can find this Nylon, silk/almost satin material in roll form and if you know someone who can sew(I recommend a family friend, relative or Grandma) you can use this material to line your denim garments. It is a lot of hassle Yes. But once done it will feel soo much better. I recommend getting a light version of the material preferably a more netted version like the material used to line some hoods, pockets or to make basketball shorts out of. This material is a little more breathe able than the flat nylon silk. By lining the denim garments you avoid the uncomfortable rubbing of horrible rough denim and instead a softer more weighted pajamas feel making the wearing of jeans much more pleasant than before. Another useful tip is to wear looser more relaxed clothing. I cannot wear tight fitting jeans as it makes me itch and uncomfortable, lining or not so I wear straight fit or baggy jeans as they feel a bit more free to move in and much more comfortable than tight jeans. Yes loose straight fit is very 00s and Yes baggy jeans are very 90s but so what, if you find that looser straight fit or a little baggier Jean feel more comfortable then go for it. Personal style should be equally comfortable as well as stylish. You can keep up with the skinny trackies/jean trends but if you feel uncomfortable, just know that not one is expecting you to wear these tight jeans or trackies. You are your own person, so be yourself. Feel free to point me out but I wear the fashion horrors JNCOs from the 90s, yes they are still in business, I wear dark wash with the smallest and slimmest cuff possible 20inch cuffs. They ain't no nasty mammoths they are simply a more comfortable baggier Jean that doesn't irritate me like Levi's do. Because they are baggier I don't have to line them because as a big plus they are a linen, polyester blend meaning they look like denim but they feel like a softer more comfortable denim so I don't have to line them 😄. It is a lot like the material used in women's jeggings just a bit more thicker and far less stretchy. Lastly the Pros and Cons. Pros Most Synthetic clothing is often much more softer and comfortable than 100% natural rough materials Most come in more creative colours so you'll be able to brighten up your wardrobe or go for the simple monochrome look. Often easier to take care of so less likely to shrink bunch or buckle Polyethylene(plastic based) based colour dye so no colour bleeding during wash keeping your whites white without colour separation. Keep in mind some, Polyester Blends may still bleed as they are often mixed with natural fibres for added strength so not 100% anti bleed. So always check the label before washing. And for added comfort use fabric softener!😄 Keeps the colour. No fades, no discoloration, no chemical damages. (Certain Cleaning chemicals may still damage colours) Con Polymer based(plastic based) so will lose the softness over time if exposed to heat based drying such as a drier. Weaker life. Certain polyester/natural blends especially natural silk blends will boggle(little balls of fabric found near high contact point such as under arm, sides of torso, ends of sleeves around wrists. Around front of stomach and lower back. A brand know as Sik Silk has terrible boggling problems so from a sensory stand point avoid this brand as the material may become irritating overtime Most Synthetic clothing is sports related so it is expected that most garments will be a little more pricer than regular natural clothing. Doesn't breathe well. It great being comfortable but most Synthetic clothing is sports related so alot of the Items will be designed to be exercised in so in order the help burn calories some garments are designed to keep heat in. So don't be surprised if your in a 21°c warm room in a 26°c day and you start feeling a little hot and bothered. Just drink plenty and you'll be fine. Also wise to wear less on hot days so stick to Shorts and T-Shirt for these kind of days. Lastly the conclusion. Here I have given examples of avoiding natural fibres for; if you find them rather/highly uncomfortable to wear. Hope this helps.

I like form-fitting clothes, as long as my shirt is loose around my middle or long enough to tuck into my pants. Otherwise, it's unbearable, and I can't wait to go home. Sometimes, I actually do go home to change my clothes if I have an opportunity to do so.

I also dislike pants that have too wide of a pant leg, i always think something is crawling up my leg when its just the pants, i hate white cotton balls due to the texture too.

You mentioned that you were going to be eating mac and cheese. I’m not saying that you should avoid dairy products as well as wheat products. However, dairy and wheat are the 2 main food allergies to autism. I was born severely allergic to both dairy and wheat products since I was born as well as other food products such as eggs and soy products. I did by enlarge grow out of having obvious allergic reactions, but that does not mean that I should be eating those food products mentioned. Not every person with Asperger’s and/or autism physically shows obvious signs from those foods mentioned, but that does not mean that they should be ingesting them much if at all either. I have a theory that people with Asperger’s and/or autism that don’t show obvious physical allergic reactions to those types of foods especially starting from the youngest of developmental ages can be the ones perhaps that might develop as well show signs of the more noticeable/severe higher levels (not higher functioning levels, but lower functioning levels if you will) of autistic traits do to food allergies alone. I myself may very well be considered in the category of Asperger individuals that has more of the milder forms of Asperger’s if not perhaps being amongst the most mild Asperger individuals all because of knowing to avoid those foods from the earliest developmental stages. Of course, despite the idea I have about certain foods that people with autism are allergic too that may have drastically altered their levels of autism through their earliest of developmental stages, if individuals with autism avoid the foods that they are allergic too, you likely will see immediate results at least on some small level if not a major level such as with the improvement of sensory issues. The length of time and duration might also be an added factor to see even more improvement. If you think about it, the word for sensory as in sensory issues may very well correlate to not just the word for senses but to the word for sensitivities as in sensitivities to certain things such as food allergies or seasonal allergies. Also, the word for Autism it’s self may very well correlate to the word for autoimmune in which case avoiding such things as foods that people with autism are allergic too is likely a major solution in improving sensory issues due to allergies and/or sensitivities to certain things.

Oh dear Dan, please don't start peddling homeopathic garbage. Doing so would be such a disgrace to the great work you've been doing so far. Please don't lead your audience down the path of pseudoscientific bullcrap. Homeopathy has no scientific standing and is based on magical beliefs such as 'water memory'. I've been following you for a while now and was quite disappointed to see that in this segment.
@Sneglee
@Sneglee 3 жыл бұрын
Absolutely agree. Peace and love, and everything, but I think it actually could become harmful since so many people have been pushed to believe that pseudoscience like homeopathy will cure or treat autism/ADHD/etc. I’m afraid this could reinforce that belief, and make people feel justified in attacking us for not trying pseudoscience to “fix” ourselves, and then that could be used as another reinforcement towards the belief that disabled people don’t deserve acceptance and accessibility because we’re not “trying hard enough”. So, please don’t, Dan. Your work is too important for this.
