It is hard to get to Abkhazia for us westerners these days since the only way to enter to Abkhazia is through Russia (border between Abkhazia and Georgia is closed and guarded for obvious reasons) and since all of EU countries are on the list of enemy states of Russia I clearly doubt that we can get double entry russian visa which is necessary to get to Sochi and cross russo-abkhazian border near Sochi on the way to Abkhazia and back.

Start by going to the least visited country in Europe, then go a little further east, then go to the countryside. That's like going off off off the beaten track. :) Btw I visited in 2017 with a friend. We drove from Sweden and stayed a couple of nights in Tiraspol. We took the train to Bendery and the trolleybus back. I think the lady working in the ticket office thought we were kind of weird. Nobody rides the train a short distance like that... But it was interesting and fun.

I think it's fairly fine to call it Tranistria. It's a Romanian name because it was a part of Romania. Russia/USSR over numerous occasions took over the area and the area on numerous occasions tried to go back to being a part of Romania. Though the area itself was rarely considered a part of Moldova, the land was largely owned by Moldovan nobles. As time went on the Russians conscripted a large portion of Moldovans to the Russian military (hundreds of thousands) from the area and then had Russians, Ukranians, Polish, and Bulgarians to move to the area to dilute the original population from Moldovan to Russian (see Crimea for current day equivalent). The moldovan contingent was further reduced when the Nazi's gave control of the area back to USSR with them deporting large portions of the population to Siberia and then again lowered when Romania worked with Nazi's to rid the area of Jewish people. Essentially from the early 1900s to 1980s the Moldovan and more specifically the Transitria portion has been largely ethnically and culturally cleansed to create a place of Russian rule. Calling it anything other than Transistria is probably disrepsectful to the history of the country. Russia also has different names for the area's they've recently taken over in Ukraine.
@Goorood
@Goorood Жыл бұрын
Transnistria was never a part of Romania, not sure where you got that from, but it is a false and historically inaccurate statement. Also lol at the statement of Moldovan population being ethnically cleansed during Soviet era, considering that now under "independence" and glorious democratic rule of western oriented regime Moldova lost half of its population compared to early 90's when USSR disbanded. It is a fact

This is how your "democracy" works, never ask local population opinion, no voting or referendums and just have some puppet clowns in government following orders from Washington and bam ! You are in North Atlantic Terrorist Organization. 28:46 What I once heard on a trip to Russia is that the Russian Orthodox Church faced repression from the 1917 revolution to perestroika in the late 1980s. Despite this, or precisely because of this, the artists who created the Soviet mosaics secretly hid Christian messages or motifs in them. Like this character who looks like a Jesus but actually isn't. Maybe 🤷🏻‍♂️😀

It may well be. But I am sorry again to say it but it looks like many young people have no scientific or artistic education to understand a message. In the corner it is the physical symbol of an atom. It is a typical European allegory where many ideas and notions like justice, homeland, liberty are symbolized by women. There is no "Jesus" but the image of a young woman wearing symbolic cereals in her hair. The idea of "science being the new religion". More like the allegory of "science and learning supporting development".
