We took a bus from Thessaloniki, Greece (part of Greek Macedonia) to Kavala, Greece, which took about two hours. From there we caught a 24 hour ferry to Patmos, Greece in the Dodecanese Islands.
Our ferry was with Blue Star Ferries on the ship called Diagoras. Because we were spending so long on the ship we decided to book a Lux Cabin Berth. The berth was just for the two of us and included a private bathroom (with shower), a queen bed, desk, sitting area and fridge.
While on board we give you a tour of the various decks, outdoor areas, cafes and restaurants.

When we were young, like 40 yrs ago, we used to island hop every summer! I feel sο nostalgic about those ferry rides! The fun, the laughs, the people we met on board! We used to look down to the luxury cabin and the fancy restaurant people. We used to buy spagheti at the much cheaper self service restaurant. We had learnt from the Greeks to call it karavisia makaronada. That overboiled spagheti was the best spageti of my whole life. We used to sleep out in the open and we had to know in advance where to lay our sleeping bags so that we'd be protected from the night ocean wind. It's been already ten years I haven't been to my favorite country on the planet, but those summers on the Greek islands are in my heart! Maybe it's because I love Greece so much, I think this country suits you! I enjoyed all your Greek videos! BTW Chios is pronounced Heos with a haeavy H. A bit heavier than in Helen. Or in Hellas.

We use to call "karavisio" any food /drink with low quality, (karavi=boat). It's very common to call a bad coffee "karavisio Cafe". That because on the boat you can't expect any luxury. I'm really glad to hear people from all over the world to speak so good for my country. Thank you so much, you, with your good vibes, makes Greece more beautiful every day.

We,the Greeks, consider that the products they sell in the ferry are pretty highly priced. You can get a decent freddo for 1.50e in the port. So before going on a long trip we buy lots of stuff from bakeries or supermarkets.

A very common appetizer in Greece is feta cheese wrapped in phyllo dough. You fry it and serve it with honey and sesame seeds. It is sweet and savoury at the same time. If you put too much honey you can have it as a dessert, lol! I guess you ate something like that.

I have been on this ship before. I was returning to Kavala from Lemnos, and the trip was rocky. I was in my cabin, and we felt the ship shaking more. Then, we went on the promenade deck, and a small rogue wave hit the ship and made us wet. It was hilarious. Also, the lobby and the grand staircase was very good.

7:47 it's called mehze it's a tradition in Greece when you drink an alchoholic beverage mostly beer, tsipouro, raki or ouzo they also give you a mehze. Now nuts and chips is realy cheap but your on a ferry what do you expect usually a mehze is either some small fish like sardien with olives some bread or meat like beef or salami something small finger food one would say. The mehze is given because usually Alcohol usally get's you a bit peckish after so the mehze is there to take care of that need.

Glad you enjoyed it, but rooms and food can be really expensive on ferry. 7 euros for two take away coffee is too much. We mostly prefer bringing on board our own snacks (they don't care) and hanging round the public areas which are really comfortable and luxurious instead of paying extra money for a room or a dinner in the luxurious restaurant. There is always a more affordable self service restaurant.

@@DelightfulTravellers Prices on board look cheap to you guys, but for Greeks, ferries have always been expensive, especially in the past. That's why most of us avoid buying stuff there. That's probably the reason why the restaurant was empty. Next time you should visit mainland Greece during May. There are so many beautiful mountain villages and you were so close to mountain Olympus from Thessaloniki. Also Meteora monasteries near Kalambaka town, a world heritage site and so many more. Not to mention the quality of food, which is so much better, authentic and diverse from what you already know about Greek food. I hope you stay safe and enjoy your travellings. I love watching you 😋

Hi guys, I'd like to give you some clarifying informations: "Chios" pronounce : Hios / Greek Salat : Horiatiki salata and means Rustic or from the Village or Village Style / fylo pronounce : filo ( fi as you say fi -fth) / the name of the ship is "Diagoras" : Diagoras of Rhodes (/daɪəˈæɡərəs/; Greek: Διαγόρας ὁ Ῥόδιος) was an ancient Greek boxer from the 5th century BC, who was celebrated for his own victories, as well as the victories of his sons and grandsons. He was a member of the Eratidea family at Ialysos in Rhodes. / Patmos (Greek: Πάτμος, pronounced [ˈpatmos]) is a small Greek island in the Aegean Sea. It is the location of the vision given to the disciple St. John in the Book of Revelation in the New Testament, and where the book was written. I wish you had a wonderful time on the island.

Omg I've had to sit on stairs in the hall on a ferry one trip for 8 hours from piraeus to ikaria. They basically sold tickets until their printers ran out of ink and there was no place to sit. Other times we sat outside on the deck, some people had inflatable mattresses and put them under the benches others were on the rope for the anchors, if you didn't get to the ferry early to claim your space you were out of luck! Fun times :) Where are you off to next in Greece? 🇬🇷😍

You get snacks with alcoholic drinks because alcohol on an empty stomach is not a good idea. The "interesting sauce that tastes like caramel" is called HONEY.

Regarding the smoking: No, that's not europe in general. It's just greeks not giving a shit about rules and regulations, as always. It's a cultural thing nowadays.

I would hate to see a normal ship room. I did not realize that Trevor was a giant. His head almost touches the ceiling in your room. He should play basketball. Turkey???????? I would be afraid to hear someone shouting....Allah Akbar. Now that's a scary area. If I ate nuts again, the little ash tray of nuts would be gone in one mouth full. I'm a piggy. So far, I am loving this video. Made me reminisce of my Old Navy days.. USS Durham LKA 114. Google that. :-) You 2 are mostly alone everywhere because, they all know what Canadians are like. You will tell the people.........."back home..... blah blah blah blah blah". Can't say up north, the directions would not make sense. This video is really sedated. Are you guys going through rehab or something? It is just gnarly mello. :-) They look like... curly fries. I see potato fries. I must be a real pig. The servings look like child portions. Wow. Hope you guys spent lots of time out on the decks and watching the water from the rear, (fantail) and watch the colors of things in the water. Used to love watching at night for a short time when I would have night watch going around the ship checking compartments and water levels. "IF" I was not motion sick, which I was 90% of the time I would enjoy being up on the bow of the ship, (front) and love looking over the side. Once out in the middle of nowhere I was just watching over the bow and looking straight down and the next thing I know I see this whale come up from underneath our ship as if he was racing us and like it was nothing for it to swim faster than 20+ miles per hour. ( 32 kph) and then it just kept on going and went deep and left us in the ... DUST??? As they say. You would never make it in the Navy. Try being on a Westpac or Eastpac cruise. It would take a week or more at 20kph 15 mph or so. But they always kept you busy and not time for freedom and fun... unless you were an officer. The nightmares of being an enlisted person. :-) From 11 - 12 minutes from time to time I can hear the vibration of the screw making vibrations. Ours did it a lot. Not sure why they do that. I was just a firefighter, not an engineman. Wow, I think I've written a novel here. Yikes. I was waiting for the hand slap out and then thought... no... "projectile vomit" would have been so much more appropriate for this ending. I would have felt right at home and such memories. Thanks. :-)

@@eleniasimop Now I really have no idea what your talking about and how you got there. Better for you to read my short story to Trevor and Anna. I was mostly reminiscing about my old Navy days. I never questioned the Greek lifestyle. Sorry if you got that impression. :-)
