We’re in Patmos! A relatively undiscovered island in the Dodecanese Islands of Greece. There is no airport in Patmos so you have to come here by boat, making it feel quieter and more untouched.
We start things off at one of the highest points on the island with amazing views, the capital of Patmos called Chora. Chora is a small town with the Monastery of St. John at the very top. We spend some time exploring the cute town and also get some lunch. Patmos is very famous for being a Christian Pilgrimage site, it contains the Cave of the Revelation where John of Patmos was thought to have written the Book of Revelations (the last book of the Bible).
After this we head to a small beach town in Patmos called Grikos. We spend some time here just lounging on the beach.
Later we head make to one of the main areas of Patmos called Skala. This is likely where you’ll stay if you come to the island, it’s where the ferries arrive to and also where the majority of restaurants are.
ABOUT PATMOS
Patmos, an Aegean island in the north of Greece’s Dodecanese island group, is a significant Christian pilgrimage site. Its Cave of the Apocalypse is where John of Patmos (St. John the Theologian) is said to have written the Book of Revelations. A fortresslike, 11th-century monastery dedicated to the saint overlooks the whitewashed houses of the hilltop capital, Hora (also known as Chora).

Patmos is rather exclusive . Some members of the greek royal family have a summer house on this island .And moreover this place has a religious meaning due to St John the apostle. Patmos is definitely a special place to be !

Yes. Finally some vloggers understand what they should do when visiting Greece. *If any other vlogger reads this:* Yes Santorini Mykonos is dropdead gorgeous. And so is Athens an incredible city, all with incredible culinary wealth and everything else. But stop talking about Greece as if you know everything about it, because using sentences where it specifically promotes only these places and some others as ""they are amazing, go here, you absolutely miss out on what Greece is truly is. Greece is a paradise with 80% mountains, 6000 islands and a mainland that is atleast as beautiful and consists of 80% of the total land cover. It's a country of spectacular beauty, and a tremendous diversity you will hardly find anywhere else. From Alpine mountains all the way to the only natural palm forests in Europe. And may I remind you, they are found all over the nation. Patmos is such an island that is off the beaten path. And there are endless other islands entirely unknown and special. I don't know, go travel to Evia (Greece's 2nd biggest island hardly known but incredibly beautiful), go to the emerald green island Thassos, or to Lemnos with the only small desert in Greece and archaeological sites dated to 11.000 years ago. Or go to Ithaca on the Ionian islands or to Amorgos or Syros (the capital of the Cyclades), or Sifnos or Milos the geological island or Folegandros and so on. And then the mainland with the incredible regions of Peloponnese or Western Greece or Central Greece of the province of Epirus or the province of Macedonia. Or the region of Halkidiki. Or the only monastic state in the world called Athos and so much more. It's as said a country with tremendous diversity and 80% mountains. 20 % of all of Europe's Ultra peak mountains are found in Greece, which is an incredible thing. And then Greece has 32% forests and the highest biodiversity in Europe in an tapestry of colors on the land and mountains. And so much more. So vloggers. You're fully entitled to visit Greece wherever you want. However don't talk about Greece as if it's just 3 places that doesn't even reflect 0.01% of Greece's true diversity and beauty, but act as if you know all about the nation. Next time. try to spend 2 weeks somewhere on the mainland renting a car and check out a certain region. Or an entirely unknown or lesser known island. You won't regret it and that what you will see around Greece is atleast as beautiful than Mykonos or Santorini, but entirely different. That is the true strength of Greece. There are countries where certain places really stand out and hence they're highlights. But in Greece the entire country is spectacular and hence it's a shame to pick 3 things when the other 10.000 things are equally great gems
@andreimihaesi

I totally agree I am from Romania another very diverse country with hidden gems. I've been to 15 Greek islands and it is so much more rewarding seeing the lesser advertised places and getting surprised by new treasures. Nysiros island is such a place with its volcano and incredible views from Nikia and incredibly rich volcanic soli and fruits. They should totally visit there!

Thanks for the kind words 😃We're all about finding those off the beaten path places as you know. Patmos did not disappoint even slightly. At some point we'd like to discover more of the mainland as well. There's so much to see! 🤗- Anna

@@DelightfulTravellers So good Anna! If you visit the mainland, every season is lovely, but try going in April/may if you haven't before, and then go to Epirus or the Peloponnese as a starting point and then other vacations other regions. It will be spectacular. In epirus alone you'll find absolutely stunning scenery. And Peloponnese is also so diverse. And yes. I fully agree with the others here. Crete alone is called the small continent as it has 3 mountain chains with alpine mountains all the way to natural palm forests. And then with 2200 plant species alone its more than England, Ireland and Scotland as countries combined. With history dated to 9000 years ago and with so much variety of ecotopes. Western Crete alone if you walk parts of the E4 route, with lush valleys, vertile plains, coastline areas with the Lefka ori rising 2500 meters straight out of the sea all the way to walking over the Lefka ori you truly get the idea as if you're on the moon or a different planet. And indeed. Evia (Euboea) is another great island I visited. 2 new lovely video's I came across this month kzbin.info/www/bejne/bJWYlqCCZ7Onas0 kzbin.info/www/bejne/eaCcoqSmnM2Xers But then again. All places were special in Greece and always surprises you, with so many secret gems. Did you know that Greece is one of the most hotspring rich countries in the world? Greece has 800 natural hotsprings due to it's geographic location on the Asian, European and African plates and the unknown plate that is underneath. I visit Pozar hotspring from time to time, a wonderful unknown gem in the mountains in the province of Macedonia in North Greece.

Hey guys, just came across you’re videos recently. I’ve noticed you fell in love with Greece pretty quickly. I did the opposite and fell in love with a Greek woman and then the country after. I would highly recommend the island of skiathos. It’s where we got married and also where they filmed the movie mamma Mia. It’s beautiful, green and vibrant. Keep the videos coming! Oh and it’s pronounced Feelo, not filo 😂

Unfortunately people abroad know only the Aegean and cycladic Islands like Santori I and mykonos. You could really look up the western Greek beaches. From the south like Peloponnese to the great beaches of Preveza. Also The ionian islands like Lefkafa, corfu, Zakynthos alla of them holiday standards for millions of Europeans. Relatively unknown accros the Atlantic. Besides that the hinterland of Greece is also worth visiting. Meteora, ioannina, etc. There are even ski resorts in sunny Greece. So a winter visit won't be list time.

Hi guys i hope you went to psili ammos its a great trail and great beach, i think it's my favourite spot in patmos and sometimes you can find seals there. Some of the best islands in greece are amorgos ( the best monastery you ll ever see, amazing views and very authentique place ), karpathos and symi and i should not forget to mention folegandros and sifnos. What i would suggest you is doing more trails when you go to this places, it's amazing how much you can discover that way. I grew up in Greece and now i live in Montreal which is a city i love a lot, if you ever come here i would be glad to show you some good places here in Montreal. Thks for your amazing videos.

Well travelers, you hit the nail on the head.... I'm just about a week away from heading back to my family's island of Patmos, and 24 hrs before I head to ATH to meet up with my family, but I came on to YT to just find some rando Patmos videos on YT and poof, here we are! I'm glad you enjoyed it! (albeit 2 years late)... it's a pain in the neck to get to, but it is beautiful , invokes nostalgia without even being from here, you never want to leave! I've been back 8 times over the course of my life, and each time is the same...imagine how it feels having family who left Patmos for a life in NYC?! Similar to Patmos, it's sister island in the Cyclades (you'll have to research that one ;) ), is Amorgos, which if you loved Patmos, you'll feel the same for it as well.... Happy Travels! I can't wait!

Hello Fouz! Thanks for commenting we're so glad you like videos. It's nice to see 'the numbers' go up but even if they weren't we'd still do this. We're having lots of fun. It's so hard to pick a favourite island. Maybe this one... maybe Paros (and AntiParos)... but just wait until you see the next one 😃- Trevor

Maybe if you can give some more information about what beach your on, what hotel was behind you it would be great. As a traveler trying to decide on visiting Patmos I want to see the names of restaurants you are eating in, hotels in the area - where you stayed and what you thought of it. What you would recommend or not. Beach names etc etc. In the nicest way possible maybe turn your camera around and show more of the views while you talk.

You've made it to the Holy Island! The whole Dodecanese chain is relatively less traveled and 'hopped' compared to the Cyclades but the history and variety of landscapes and architecture here is unparraleled. If you want to see another little 'treasure' with whitewashed homes, no crowds and a VOLCANO, try Nysiros, a bit to the south :)

If coming from Athens, can we take a flight to Leros and then take the ferry from Leros to Patmos all in one day? We plan to stay 2 nights in Patmos before ferrying back to Leros and then flying back to Athens on the 3rd day. That way we have one full day in Patmos to see the Monastery, Patmos Cave, and maybe have some time at a beach. We thought of staying at Skala Hotel. Any insights and info will be awesome!

A little strange to come all the way to Patmos and give the whole John the Apostle thing and the writing of Revelation short shrift. You missed an opportunity to see a place that has world historical significance in the religious sphere. I watched your Thessaloniki video as well, which is where I live. You seem like a nice couple but I would encourage you to dig a little deeper in some of these places you visit in Greece. You're missing a lot, and that's a shame.

Great watching your you tube on Patmos, one important note about cats in general in Greece, they are wild and not domesticated, so please please please do not pet them. Their duty is for catching their prey, snakes and rodents. Unfortunately people from the west just assume they are domesticated.

The Bible mentions the Island of Patmos in Revelation ( Apocalypse's) chapter one. You said that none of that book has come to fruition but I will kindly and respectfully correct you. There are prophetic messages in the book of revelation that have already come to fruition and others will come to fruition. I highly recommend you read the book of revelation. I am a former theological student. I was traveling near that area two years ago right before coronavirus. Absolutely beautiful.

the reason why cats aren't friendly in Greece is because they are wild not domesticated. Greeks generally do not have them in their homes like westerners do. Their purpose in life is to hunt for rodents & snakes pretty much, so please don't pet them and snuggle up to them, you might just lose an eye. They are natural there in Greece.
