240 volt PSC Blower Motor Fan Speeds- Wire Colors, Speed Selection Without Wiring Diagram!
This is how to determine which wires are for each speed, high, medium, and low. This Test will help you find out which speed a wire is on any PSC Blower motor. I go over the recognized Fan motor color code for speeds and spade terminal care. Supervision is needed by a licensed HVAC Tech before doing this as Experience and Apprenticeship garners Wisdom and Safety.

Hi,I am changing out my blower motor,I have a heat pump on my old motor orange wire from motor to compaciter another orange hooked on same side as other orange wire that's goes through floor and a brown wire on other side of compaciter. My new motor has a brown wire with white stripe and a brown wire that goes to compaciter I'm confused on how I should hook up new motor to compaciter and this second orange wire going out side to the ac unit. Help would be greatly appreciated .

Thank you for this video. I knew how to speed control 120 volt, but wasn't sure about 240. Question though... Is there any issue running 2 fans like this in parallel if the breaker and conductor are rated for the amp load?
@FirstLast-om8li

Why are there connectors on the 24-volt timing board for motor one and motor two if they are just higher resistance? Wouldn't you still need to send 240 down those lines to run the fan at those lower speeds? I don't understand why the other motor wires are plugged into that relay timing board.

I also have a purple wire coming out of the 230 volt motor.The wiring diagram shows purple and red are Hi volts, and yellow and red are Lo volts.Also have black and red speed wires in a addition to 2 brown Cap. wires.This blower was in an electric furnace and I plan to use as a garage blower/fan.So do I hook up my 240 "extension cord" to the black and yellow wires or the black and purple wires?

I do love it. I have had this model for about 5 years and I have another 11 of this model for my students and I have not had any issues with them. My last UEI meter lasted 11 years and then the temp became a little off. Everything else still works good on it. Thanks for the question!

Are all these speed controls done by electronic controller boards now ? If so are there videos available to watch on this new control technology ? Thanks for this very interesting video that clarified some of the theory that i was a bit shaky on.

Blower motors are powered by either the black or white relay on the control board, a separate fan relay, fan limit control, or sequencer, thanks. Maybe look up "acservicetec ifc"

I want to use an old fan as a shop fan, so I only have green which is grounded to fan and then black, brown, and yellow. Does anyone know how I should wire a 220 plug to this.

Excuse my silly question but what will happen if by mistake the wires for the speeds are connected wrong(for example high-speed wire is going to low-speed connection) ? Is this going to damage the motor?
@acservicetechchannel
@acservicetechchannel 3 жыл бұрын
that will just run the motor in its highest setting when its supposed to be low speed like in fan or heat mode
@waynemiles7027

So which is the common and which is the run tap?
@acservicetechchannel
@acservicetechchannel 8 жыл бұрын
Great Question! Common would be the wire that is connected in the motor to the brown/white stripe wire. They have almost no resistance between each other. Run the speed selecting wire, and start is the wire off of the capacitor.
@oafyvonskidmark316
@oafyvonskidmark316 6 жыл бұрын
The Run capacitor terminals are Run and start, the 2 brown wires go to the capacitor, either lead to either terminal, it does not matter. An electric motor such as the type found in a cheap box fan have no run capacitor, they are a low torque motor called a SHADED POLE motor, they can be single speed or multiple speed, if multi speed and the wires are not colored such as Black = High,, Blue = Medium ,Red = Low,, The higher resistance the lower the speed. If you ohm out a motor that is colored correctly you can verify Common to High speed is a lower OHM value than the Low speed will have a higher Ohm value. Common is the point at which the Run and Start windings are connected to each other. Example, if the Run winding(Common to Run) is say 5 Ohms, and the Start winding is 10 Ohms, than the Ohms reading between the Run and Start windings should equal 15 Ohms, because the Run winding and Start winding are being read in series, both inline as batteries in a flashlight. Multiple speed motors have the speeds on the Run winding. If you take 1 motor lead and read the Ohm values to the remaining motor leads, then take the lead that read highest to the 1st motor lead and compare that lead to the remaining leads. The 2 leads with the highest Oms readings are Run and start, The Start winding,(Start to Common) is higher than the Run winding, (Run to Common).

acservicetech nope it's just some common rotating fan, but you seem to know a lot and you actually reply to your comments so I thought you might be able to help, if there is some universal fan wire coloring system you seem like the guy to ask.
@acservicetechchannel
@acservicetechchannel 6 жыл бұрын
If this is just a basic two wire fan without a capacitor then you likely have an induction motor and just have one hot and one common lead. It won't matter which one is hot and which one is common but once again, I am not sure if you have more than two leads coming off of it, thanks
