Mike, been using the totes for years. I don’t store on dirt as my firewood stays in the barn. Hey just a note, when you start a new tote, throw it up on your forks and lift it so your not bending over to stack the wood and as the level gets higher just let it down. You can also weld an extension to the top of the basket from a donor tote so you can get a full 1/2 cord in there. The tote can take the weight. The older I get the more I find ways to make work more enjoyable. Like you I enjoy processing firewood :) cheers!

Mike, this channel is great and its because what you are doing is great - if your content isn't good to begin with it doesn't matter the production values. As a presenter you are quite accomplished no ums/errs etc and very natural. If your business takes off (and i hope it does) those IBC Totes combined with say a barn / steel framed building for IBC tote storage full of wood drying out would be such a killer combination. Also 2/5ths of a Cord / 40%

Very nice video!!! I have 33 of those totes that I use for firewood. I burn half and sell half and like you say they work great to put on the bed of a pick up truck to sell. When I was watching you using that hydraluic splitter it reminded me of the best thing I ever did with my hydraluic splitter and that was to sell it. I bought a supersplit and it made splitting wood very enjoyable. The time you will save will be unbelievable. In 20-30 minutes a tote will be full. I do not have any connection to supersplit!!! The size of the wood you split is perfect for that spliter. Watch some videos on the supersplit please.

Everyone tried to talk me out of it and wanted me to get one from tsc but the 22 ton at tsc was the same price as the 25 ton at rural king and tsc didn't have any with a Briggs and Stratton engine all they had were killers and hondas and I'm a huge Briggs fan.lol I love my splitter I busted over 100 truck loads with it last year and so far no problems and I haven't put anything in it that it wouldn't bust. It sure beats a mail which is all I had for the last couple years I sold wood

My guess would be a little shy of a face cord. I use a similar wood storage method to the storage totes. I find an appropriate size pallet and add 2-2 x 4 verticals on each side, with 2 x 4's that connect them across the top. Mine hold a face cord also. The only thing I notice is if I don't leave an air gap between the butt end of the wood, it does take longer to season them. It is nice though because it goes right from the splitter and into the pallet. From there, I will bring it into the house (once seasoned) for the wood stove.

Those cats inside the cage I use those for all sorts of things. A saws all cuts through it easy. I've used them to make Wax dirt for Trapping season , if you plug up the hole at the bottom you can put it in the woods for a water hole for the animals during the dry season. Tons of uses.

I have a champion splitter which can be seen working on my channel. I ran into the carb with a pallet of wood. Broke some plastic and something broke that the choke was stuck off. The level would not pull all the way over. I could not pull the choke on like something was bent and in the way. Hard to get things fixed here so I cold started it by spraying quick start spray down the carb. I did that for a few days until it caught on fire. After I put the fire out the choke started working again. Seems like it burnt some bent plastic that was in the way. Works perfect now thou. I am going to make a movie about it.

Good morning Mike. The totes look like a good organized solution for storage. I'm thinking 1 face cord on a single charge for the chainsaw. Cheers!
@davidwhalen29244 жыл бұрын
Hi Mike, I suppose it doesn't matter much one way or the other about how much firewood you can saw with the battery-operated chainsaw. For me, I wouldn't be worrying in the slightest as to how long the battery will last. The cure: Simply own two or even three of the batteries and bring them with you during each sawing session. They probably are fairly expensive though. On another matter, I am wondering if you have ever looked at the "Eastonmade" log splitters. There are several models but I am thinking especially about the model "12-22". It is a mid-sized firewood splitter but probably would be great for your situation. It can be had with several sizes of the wedge. If you search on "You Tube", you will find many videos concerning this company's products. I am definitely NOT saying this is the only good wood splitter out there ... but I sure do like it.

The totes he has are 330 gallon and they will fit a true face cord (or maybe a just over) measured at 4 ft x 8 ft. x 16 inch (16 inch being the log length). Notice the 6 horizontal frame sections of the design. I use the 275 gallon totes with 5 horizontal sections and they will not fit a face cord so I add at least another 20 logs when I sell a face cord.
@keithball61376 жыл бұрын

Great idea for the Totes, I was thinking of ways to easily load firewood for customers, these would work perfectly for loading. I can get these for $100AUD from my mechanic who sells them quite often due to chemicals he gets in them, then he sells them off later, I'm sure if I get a few he would do them cheaper. I think though, I would do the sales that initially cover what it would cost me to replace each, so if customers don't return them I can afford to replace them, and for customers that do return them they can either get their next load minus the cost to replace the tote, or get the cost of the tote back if they just return it.
@DiemenDesign6 жыл бұрын
I noticed someone mention about lifting the totes with your Kubota. I've been using my L4600, using a Tote as a Water Truck to water the driveway we're currently working on. The totes I get hold 1000 lite's (1000 kilo's) and while I don't pick it up higher than 1 mtre, the Tractor handles it just fine. Works out cheaper than hiring an actual water truck for 200 mtre's of driveway. For those interested, the Tote Tank has a tap with a handle that we attached a PVC screw fitting, a PVC T piece, then length's of PVC pipe to give us the 3 mtre's of the width of the driveway. The pipe has 1/4" holes drilled into it about 50mm apart and above the centreline. As the tank empties or the gradient of the area changes, simply tilting the forks allows all the water to be used. We also use a ratchet strap to stablise and secure the tank against the back of the forks, and so when the forks are angled down to get all the water out, the tote doesn't slip off the forks. Oh, the pipe also needs to be stablised, for that we just tie some rope around the pipe and back to the tote.
