There has never been a series based solely on the exploits of a pure science vessel, and this ship seems absolutely perfect to be the subject of such a series. I am certain a Parker class ship could run into enough trouble to keep viewers interested and it's time we got back to the TOS era for a nice long visit.

This ship class looks like the upgraded Oberth class that ST3:TSFS USS Grissom needed to be to defend against the Klingon Bird of Prey

A sister ship is another ship of the exact same class, where as a variant ship is a ship of an altered class... A sister class however, is a class that is developed alongside the Original Class (In this case, the Oberth) While a Variant Class is one which is created after the Original but is slightly altered version of the Original (Example; The Excelsior vs The Enterprise-B)

why did the Oberth class stick around if there were better classes like the Parker class. Was the Oberth class expendable doing dangerous experiments that would require the secondary hull to be jettisoned if the experiment became dangerous and it was necessary to save the crew

A really nice looking ship. I never disliked the Oberth, I thought it made Starfleet more dynamic and diverse. This moves the design towards the traditional layout but still honours the predecessor with some great design choices. It would fit perfectly into the Star Trek Universe

The Oberth in its time was a fine sensor boat with the unfortunate issue of having zero defensive capability. Her one big showing didn't help that perception.

Such a beautiful design, melding the Constitution-class, Oberth-class, and angled NX-style upper section is nice. If the class was official I can see two possible options besides a mass decommissioning; A) being "officially decommissioned" by Starfleet Command and shifted into Starfleet Intelligence's fleet to carefully observe both Romulan and Klingon movements, or B) a few "renegade" captains decide to ignore Starfleet's orders and continue studying stellar anomalies. "Captain, they're ordering us back for decommissioning." "Oh, hell no. It took us a week to get out here. We're studying this anomaly, even if we're getting replaced." The drop-style shuttle bay is a nice touch between both the NX-class and Defiant-class and makes it a clever touch

Very nice little science ship, I love all the details you included; lack of a shuttle bay, the single probe launcher, etc. Makes a lot of sense for a science vessel that wasn't expected to be battling the villain of the week like the Connie. Backstory makes great sense also, great job sir! 👍 That being said, I'd love to see a hot rod "refit" version with all the latest tech, bells and whistles. 😁 Would definitely be a hero ship deserving of its own TOS era TV show. 🤔

The Oberth, but not clownish and 400% less explodable. Pretty neat little design and the use of the oberth, uh, "donut saucer" inside the constitution style one is neat. Have to say, disagree on no serious shuttle facilities as while yeah there's the two smaller pod bays and the sensor probes, chances are you'd want to be able to carry a bit more payload than that depending on the situation, and no large shuttles would make planetary surveys somewhat tedious. You could probably also launch probes from the drop bays aswell as there's no real reason why they need to be shot out at huge velocity if they've got their own engines.

Probably the first design you've done which I feel is unnecessary, when Starfleet could just bolt the improved sensor array to a Miranda hull. Especially when we have already seen that, canonically, Starfleet would assign standard-type Mirandas to science tasks, like the U.S.S. Reliant.

Im sorry but apparently you did not pay attention to the video... This vessel has a SPECIFIC mission profile, one of studying gaseous and plasma phenomenon and thus required specially designed tech AND it's own special design... You couldn't just modify a Miranda Class as a Miranda Class was far too big and far too bulky to navigate inside Areas like the Badlands or inside Gas Giants... See Star Trek Voyager "Caretaker."
