It's the same everywhere, most people just kind of semi-static route they spent most of theirs time. It's only the youtuber and streamers that go around everywhere for contents and show the world many places. Seriously, I lived in a city for half my life and quite frankly I didn't travel more than 1/4 of the city unless sometimes I absent minded and drove the wrong street and have to figure out way to get back home.

It seems like another temporary promo/novelty set up. This machine is easily replaced by three or four traditional vending machines, utilising proven tech. It just looks overly complicated, not to mention painstakingly slow. It does make for an amusing video, so there's that at least 🙂

This is a very interesting idea and as for the robot's speed? Part of it may be that perhaps the robot HAS to return to that neutral position so that it can make the needed movements to get items? Sure going faster would be nice, but for now just the fact it can even do this is amazing.

@TheNugettinage2 жыл бұрын
It's fascinating that they put so much money down on the robotic arm, but then clearly cheaped out on the processor that calculates what movements it has to make. It takes such a long time for it to get moving! A bit of it must have to do with the programming of it as well, it would seem that the fastest way of doing the processing is just have a pre-set motion path to all of the different containers, with an ID attached. When the order comes through, the computer just fetches the pre-made path for each product ID and feeds it to the arm, rather than having to calculate each new order which is what I think is making it so slow to start. Still wouldn't be super fast, mind you, but it'd be faster to start moving.

How convenient is it really? It takes forever for the arm to process the order and to retrieve your items. And mind you, you're paying extra for this novelty and "convenience". It's getting harder and harder to find workers to work in stores all day (and especially at night) as wages rise and the pool of workers shrink. Businesses are countering this by making the stores mostly self service with self and automated checkouts. Vending machines can be convenient to use in the middle of the night or in places more stores cannot be built for the consumer, and reduces the chance of merchandise being stolen for the business.
@factpills56072 жыл бұрын

love this! I was shocked at how much the corn chips were..in the US you can get a huge bag for that price..I think you got ripped off lol..but the band aid box was a good deal
@TheNugettinage2 жыл бұрын
I was gonna say that since these are Singapore dollars, the price is misleading, but from the looks of it Singapore dollars have a higher value than USD at the moment, so it'd cost even more in USD! That said, this is relative to buying power, possibly there is more buying power in Singapore which leads to more expensive products. The US also just generally has very cheap food, I think, due to subsidies on stuff like corn production
@squiddybilly2 жыл бұрын
Corn chips are probably much more popular in the US, plus the population of the Singapore is only 5.6 million so you wouldn't get the advantage of economies of scale that you can in the US that has a much larger population. Also, these are convenience store prices, not supermarket prices. As a comparison, I just read a Kitchn article where raw prawn chips are US$8.99 for 2 boxes in the US, but here in New Zealand they're the equivalent of US$1.20.
