I love the way you pick things. It makes me think of how I picked things to eat with my kids. You really are a Dad and I love it. I knew it. You got a rice and bean congee. They are sweet and often have dates and peanuts in them. In the States thy come with a spoon under a plastic cover and you can eat them cold or hot. I used to keep one on my dashboard in the summer and eat it naturally hot for lunch. The Vietnamese make some interesting savory congees. I had to find them in restaurants, though. Okra makes sense to me since Japanese seem to like textures more than we do in the States. Good choice on veggies.

There used to be restaurants in NYC called automats. The food was cooked fresh...and individual items put on plates. There was a hot side cold side and neutral side and people came in opened the little glass door of each compartment and took out the plate on a tray. The meal was calculated by the plate like Dim Sum. It was very popular with office workers who had short lunch times.
