What's more satisfying?? Having a safer car knowing you built the cage or having soccer mom too fast for her old bones ? Always a great time!! Thanks Kevin. Safe Travels!!

I have had the opportunity to visually inspect the cage welds up close and personal, while flipping end over end, after a blowout approaching 200. This is how it looks out the visor. Sky, cutoff switch, cutoff switch, CUTOFF SWITCH, track, sky, weld, sky, track, sky, weld, track, sky, sky, sky, ooo sky i landed right side up. Ya u notice every bar for some reason. That shiny SFI sticker flashes like a strobe during the sky, track, sky part. My vote is for the cage.

@@flipfloptanlines926 For sure. It's amazing how much you notice when something like that happens. Even though it was years ago, I can still recall the sight of my of my left hand button mirror cracking mid flip... like I could see the crack happening in slow motion. Was so very grateful for the quality of my cage construction. My bell got rung a bit, but, walked away with really no injuries other than a cut on my brow from my glasses inside the helmet.

Excepted, it's potentially is/ going to be too fast for the new cage spec aswell

@@Dlawler Yes with forced induction, engine management systems, and methanol used, the capabilities of the cars today are tremendous. If and when the car acheives the goal of reaching the next SFI cert, a capable fabricator can upgrade easily with the addition/change of safety cage and addition items, 1 ex: over 200mph = 2 parachutes required. I would wager to say that over 50% of all turbo v8 cars, especially on alcohol and its blends, are capable of exceeding their SFI certification.

@@TheJoebobmel I was 23 at the time and i wonder being in my 40s now, if i hadnt of done that then, would i notice all these N/T no time cars with stick welded 10pt cages and lapbelts, capable of running 7s and 8s in the 1/4, but running 1/8 mile. I also understand and love the grassroots of this sport and credit drag racings recent resurrection to these no time folks. As far as wrecks go you mentioned the oddity of your mirror cracking, i remember seeing the oil pressure guage go to 0 after cutoff in the air, then spiked the needle around 120 everytime i bounced. Its was the oil pan smashing down like an aluminum can pressuring the engine. The 3rd bounce stuck the needle into its stop post. My buddy remembers his auto shifter poppin into 2nd then 3rd after cutoff as he was rollin and bouncin after snappin an axle about 20 foot out. It was the cable mount breaking and yankin the cable down by the tranny. He tells the story, "Jesus take the wheel, but says i musta prayed wrong. But hey, still hit 2nd and 3rd for me lol".

as a teen, mid 20's i did a lot of stereo wiring and such, laying backwards on the seat was always fun, trying to get that one last connection that fought me..... still have back issues from it... i was a 6'3-160 guy at the time, so snaking my way under was interesting since my arms were long too....there were times where i had to have help getting back out.... now i'm an electrician/hvac tech, 200lb guy now, and still end up in tight spots.... oh the life of a handyperson

Would love to see ya take on a circle track build, but most tracks run spec chassis now and NA spec motors.

I once worked in a shop that built custom things like cages. My boss would carry on about the amount of time I just stood looking at what to be done instead of just getting stuck into it. I’d spend upto an hour just looking scratching my head and scribble a some notes. I always completed my jobs hours before he would and with zero comebacks. I’m not small so squeezing into a tight place to weld something was never an option so I’d always make an improvement that required a large hole being strategically cut out of the floor or wheel well or the entire floor cut out and welded back in, sometimes doing more work means less work.

Just out of curiosity your goal for the car is faster than 7.50 right? Why not do a cage good for high 6s since you're already doing a cage? Is it possible on that car or do you have to basically have a tube chassis?

@Nebbia_affaraccimiei 2 жыл бұрын
yeah curious to know what more needs to be done to go the next step cert down to 6.50? 4.60 in the 1/8 would certainly go faster than 7.50 already xD

It's mostly about the floor bars going from 25.5 to 25.3. The existing cage and all added bars need to be CM, there's an extra roof bar and more specific structure aft of the main hoop. Secondary door bars, gussets and roof bars all need to be bigger too. If Kevin thinks he might update later down the line and the 8.50 cage is CM then he might be planning around this already. Edit: Just watched the video. Faster than 7.50 requires a full chrome moly cage, it would mean starting from scratch on this car.
