D2 is considered a budget steel these days, especially since it's finicky with heat treatment on large batches from production companies. 14c28n is better imo for many reasons. And there's far better steels than that, but better is a term that shouldn't be used so loosely because there's a lot of factors and variables

For all of you just getting into the knife world from binge watching knife videos, take it from me, don't fall for the hype of buying expensive mid-techs and customs. They are well built and look cool but they'll end up as jewellery that open letters or an occasional box now and then. I've purchased multiple-tech knives from CRs, Hindereres, and Striders and I don't even use them. I think I have around $6K worth of knives and I sometimes wonder why the fuq did I buy all of these knives when I could've invested that money in something that will bring me back a good return. Get yourself a nice durable light weight folder like these shown in this video, that's all you'll ever need.

I’m debating between the kubey nova and sencut actium. What do you think?
@charleswood21822 жыл бұрын
What did you say? If it had a hole in it you would what? Great reviews. I wonder. I think the sharpening choil thing is important because you've shown it is. I won't buy a knife now that has that limitation, even the fancy Russian one I wouldn't buy for that reason. Which I got from you. So what I wonder. Has any other knife show guy, you know if the manufacturers do take heed, done something as significant to knife user utility as you harping on that issue? I mean that in a good way. I don't know the other knife guys and their past. But to effect that kind of a change in benefit of the user? That would be pretty darn significant achievement. And. It is a bit of drama so that's a reason to stay tuned in here...
@NeevesKnives2 жыл бұрын
I've said things to a dozen or so designers and companies to try and help then fix the issue, sometimes they do sometimes they don't, I think sometimes it's about the tooling they have or that's used, so sometimes I get it but in many cases I know they have the tooling to doit proper but they just avoid it.

These are all amazing knives and this list should be on everyone's to buy list. The only small folders I like are the ones you can get a good grip on but I realize for some people they can only have knives under 3" and some people just prefer small knives. The rest of the knives on the list have amazing quality and price for what you are getting it's definately a great time to be into knives, I remember 440C being the best supersteel of all time when it came out. The options people have now compared to just 10yrs ago is staggering with steel choices, new materials, and availability of products we are definately in the golden age of knives. Thanks for the great vid Jerad and keep making sharp things fun and enjoyable.

Dude....D2 is better than 14c28n. If you look at 14c28n wrong, it gets dull.
@NeevesKnives2 жыл бұрын
I've tested 14c28n in controlled cut tests and it almost always out performs d2, there's a few companies doing d2 well and in that case yes, but most don't, and most companies do 14c28n well, and some are doing it great like civivi, while I agree d2 is supposed to be better than it is. It usually isn't great from most production companies because it's a finicky steel to heat treat on a larger scale while 14c28n is extremely easy to heat treat, so it's far far more consistent. There's a reason 19 out of 20 knife guys would pick 14c28n over d2

Something with great geometry, so Something with a thin blade stock and thin bte, depending on how much you want to spend and the size of knife your wanting, because there's many options that are great.
