I had no experience with sign language at all until my baby was born with severe hearing loss. It's been such an emotional journey. I had no confidence in me successfully learning ASL in a timely fashion (even though I take weekly classes) until I found your channel. I love your tips on how to remember a sign and how you immediately incorporate the words into a sentence. I just get a much better grasp on how to sign with your teaching. I can't thank you enough for sharing your amazing gift!

My daughter just grunted instead of asking for things and wouldn't turn when I dropped something or called her name. I was a special Ed teacher in FL before moving to TX and had basic ASL taught to me by a mom of one of my students. I was fascinated and kept trying to learn it by using books as a reference (not so easy). 8 years later my daughter was born with this hearing challenge and my thought was " God knows how strong I can be." I just taught her ASL and didn't look back. She is 19 now. She did have surgery at 3 years old, which corrected most of it. My son was born hearing but we chose to teach him to sign also. It is a special thing to know. My whole family signs a little. My daughter is studying to be an RN at A&M and wants to be that signing nurse that helps all deaf families with the compassion and empathy that comes from knowing what it's like to be in their world. You've got this.

I felt so bad for the lady. I didn't like not being able to help so I started watching your videos. My 8 year old daughter has started watching with me and she is learning too! I've always wondered why in ASL the sentences sound mixed up with the signs. Like, "me hungry, restaurant you go. " instead of, "I'm hungry let's go to a restaurant.".. I call it yoda talk.. But.. Maybe someone can explain it to me😅. I love ASL. Have a pretty good dictionary with all the signs. I've taught myself allot. But also like these videos because, those dictionary's don't teach you, things like... How to phrase sentences. That's probably the hardest thing for me at this point. 😂😂😂

I came to the latest video to hopefully get a response. I've been wanting to learn ASL for a while, but giving up and restarting and giving up and restarting. Anyways I'm really going to push extra hard this time. My question is: Will people be able to understand the difference between what I'm signing and my tics? Hello! I’m not really fluent in sign language and it’s grammar, but I believe when somebody signs, “you work where you?” Saying “you” at the end finishes your sentence, kind of acting as a period in a normal paper pencil sentence. Hopefully this helps!

It’s been awhile since I took my sign class in college… I was just wondering why you repeat the subject/person? I’m sick. You signed it Me sick me. Instead of just signing it I’m sick. Or when asking the other person if they want to go to the restaurant you signed “you want to go you?” Just curious. Thanks for the refresher!!

I'm trying to learn sign language, not because I'm HoH or deaf or CODA, not anything like that. I'm Autistic, so whenever I get overstimulated, like my social battery is drained for example, it hurts my ears to hear anything louder than a whisper. Talking is even worse because the sound of my own voice pounds in my head like a jackhammer, so I decided I want to learn asl because I feel as though the world is just too loud all the time
