In the age of gender equality, some may consider “ladylike” or “gentlemanly” conduct old-fashioned, snobbish, or just plain unnecessary. But there are still those of us who want to show sophisticated and refined behavior.
In this video, we’ll tell you about all the rules of ladylike behavior that are necessary to know in order to be revered by those around you and make your life more comfortable. And for the gentlemen out there feeling left out, you can learn from some of these too!

- If guests come to your home for the first time, show them where the bathroom is so they can freshen up. After that, you can invite them to join the others.
- Bring a small gift for the host. It doesn't have to be anything expensive. Try a bottle of wine, a box of cookies, or perhaps something for their vacation home or hobby.
- If you need to brush your hair, do it in the ladies' room. Nobody wants to find a hair on their plate or on the table.
- Don't forget about etiquette rules at home. For instance, it’s rude to shout to another person from a different room. Besides, you might get used to doing this, and it’ll make guests feel uncomfortable.
- Don't take forever choosing the best piece of food on the serving plate. Take the nearest piece to you. You wouldn't want to give the impression of being selfish and greedy, would you?
- If you’re on a low-sitting chair, don't cross your legs. Hold your knees together and lean them to the side. This is called “the Duchess Slant”. You can, however, cross your legs at the ankles, also known as “the Cambridge Cross”.
Are there any other etiquette rules you consider really important? Then tell us about them in the comments section!
SUMMARY
So if you feel that you’re a real lady inside but are just a bit confused by all the intricacies of proper behavior, don't worry! Etiquette rules are quite simple if you just give them a try and incorporate them into your lifestyle. Plus, let’s be honest, no matter what gender you are, nobody wants to come off as uncivilized or rude to others!

Not the worse but worth mentioning. A guest keeps you at the door a long time when they are saying good bye so that you are leaving your other guest for longer than you should. The guest leaving should thank you for the invite and leave.

I think these are great etiquette tips! In my opinion, it’s unfortunate that so many people associate manners and social grace with being robotic Or unoriginal. Whenever I meet someone with great manners, I’m always impressed and intrigued. Conversely, poor manners can be a turn-off sometimes... it’s never a bad idea to learn how to be polite and appropriate.

Thank you for this. I think manners are not only polite but also attractive. Whenever I see a woman wearing a skirt or dress and she sits down without crossing her legs but instead turns her knees slightly to the side and crosses her ankles I find that very cute and adorable. Not in a child like way but more like an lovely innocent kind of way.

Unfortunately rules of common courtesy do not seem to be taught anymore. One rule not mentioned was to give up your seat on a subway or bus if an older or infirm person gets on and you are able bodied yourself. A woman can be equal in society without being discourteous or slovenly. Of course there are also rules of etiquette that men should observe. Making life a little more pleasant for everyone is a good thing, not an affront to individualism or equality.

This varies a lot from country to country. Before inviting someone or accepting an invitation from someone from another culture or country check on the differences and maybe make it clear how long they're invited for (or ask how long you're invited for). It may not seem very polite to say it outright but it's far better than misunderstanding each other!

Women and men should act the same way. The term ladylike separates the genders. We're trying to get rid of the gender divide not increase it to the way it was in the 18th century it's the term ladylike that pisses people off because you shouldn't be trying to be different to be considered ladylike your already female which classifies you as a lady just be yourself

The points with the serviettes, at least in western Europe, are wrong. You place the serviette on your lap as soon as you sit down however at formal event you wait till you‘re asked to sit down. When you stand up you ALWAYS place the serviette to the left of your plate, or if there is one, to the left of your bread plate.

Never curse in front of children or use grotesque language of any kind in their company, neither tell horrific stories of a disturbing nature. A real lady should never swear but because swearing is so mainstream it ought to be mentioned even to ordinary girls that it is disrespectful, rude, undignified, idiotic, and selfish to swear infrought of children, a mother with a baby, in a church, in a classroom, in the company of a person who has expressed wishes not to hear such words, or to a person of significance. A girl who curses every other word is not a lady or a princess though her fancies may attempt to believe otherwise. Try to use correct English in every circumstance but never use big words in the presence of people who wouldn't understand them. Avoid chewing gum during conversation, if you enter a conversation with gum in your mouth excuse yourself to spit it out. Never speak with your mouth full, chew with your lips closed and take small bites. When in conversation with another person don't talk for a very long time, only speak one or two sentences or statements and let the next person speak. In conversation don't thouch your phone, do not have it in your hand, and better yet, put it out of sight. Don't have your phone at the dinner table unless looking up something relative to conversation or emergency. Follow the above guidelines even though your companions do not, these guidlines are based out of respect for the fellow person and following your friends' behavior will erode your character.

Yes! And why would anyone put on lipstick during any part of a meal at all? There is no need for it to be applied before nor at the start of the meal, (this could send the wrong message about the chef's food! Would you really prefer the taste of your lipstick in your lunch or supper, and would you like to get it on your teeth?) And there is no need for lipstick application AT THE TABLE immediatelt *after* the meal, either, because you should retreat to the drawing room (via the lavatories to freshen up) immediately after the last course is served anyway. You should reapply lipstick in the cloak room or water closet. Never at the dining table.

Mic Lemos we should not ignore them. We should simply leave for sometime to attend that call and always try to return as early as possible. Well, an important call is never too long! Important call means that someone wants to TELL something important to us. And that doesn't takes so much of time, I guess.

Some other ones could be: sit straight at a table (this is for health as well as good dinner etiquette); when you shake someone's hand upon greeting, use a firm grip and look them in the eyes (to show that they have your full attention, also by firm grip I don't mean squeezing); when you enter a home, take your shoes off, especially if they have carpeted floors, (this lessens the cleaning for your host later) unless otherwise specified, of course this may vary upon culture, and friends vs strangers

I think, it would be useful to add: "1. Please, install your seatbelt without being specifically asked by the driver as the liability for your safety including fines and demerit points it is on him. So, be polite, pro-active and avoid tensionate moments between yourself and the host expecting you to buckle-on." "2. When on the passinger seat - please do not try to lecture the driver about how to drive safely and correctly. If you feel unsafe, ask to be move to a back seat." "3.Refrain to eat and drink in your host's car - unless specifically invited, to do so." "4. Do not horseplay or distract the driver in anyway. Let the driver lead and/or initiate a conversation, do not try to be the dominating entity in the car." Thanks, your VDO was truly impressive.

While I agree with some of these, a lot of them feel outdated/unnecessary. Emily Post once said that the point of etiquette is to make people feel comfortable in your presence. Etiquette is about being considerate, it's NOT about the "correct" way to hold your coffee cup.

YOu run the risk of causing a mass exodus from the host's party, which is a valid point, as the host should be a priority over other guests when at their function. The host invited you. Pay them the honour of not disturbing their function.
@tbur4087
@tbur4087 5 жыл бұрын
If it's a function going on at a friend's house and you know everybody been going to say hey got to cut out early and you say goodbye to everyone to not offend your friends if it's people that you don't know you know it's like a mixed function then I think it would be okay in America to pull the hostess aside and tell her that you're headed out cuz other people don't know you they don't care if you're there or not there if you say goodbye to the group be sure you say that you are cutting out early so that the hostess doesn't end up with a complete Exodus of her event. I think if there's just a handful of people this is okay if it's a large group I think it makes you look like you want to be in the Limelight or center of attention if you announce your departure. If you have me contact with someone or connected to someone or someone that you've talked with the party that you have agree to get back later with about something then go to that person also and let them know that you're cutting out early but you will remember to do whatever it is that your guys have agreed to do.Does this make sense?
@mizmiki65
@mizmiki65 5 жыл бұрын
I agree, after speaking with your host[ess] you should say goodbye to everyone and apologize for having to leave early: that way you say a polite goodbye but don't make others feel pressured to leave as well.

Always wait for everyone to be served before you start eating, never offer your glass to be refilled the wine waiter dnt like moving targets! Never speak with your mouth full, never scoop up peas if you have potatoes on your plate push the peas into them it acts as a glue! Never run the knife across your tongue or do a sword swallowing act. Always pat your mouth with the napkin don’t use it like a face cloth. Always place your napkin in half on your lap then if you need to clean your lips you just use the folded side. Good luck 👏👌

Married men not wearing their wedding rings and hitting on single women is a huge pet peeve. Children running around in restaurants and jumping on seats. Bringing young children or babies in movie theaters so they act up and scream/cry. Men burping at the table in public loudly. People talking too loud or being obnoxious at restaurants. It's not like we can get up and move our plate..women fighting in public places throwing drinks.
