12 Gestures That Make You 100% Less Attractive

Even the best look that took forever to create can be ruined by bad body language. This instinctual nonverbal “messenger” is still the main factor that influences how others perceive us and can make people like you or, on the contrary, make you totally unattractive. Here's a quick guide to some gestures you should avoid to always look your best.
Gripping your arm behind your back sends a strong negative signal to those around you. The higher you grab your arm, the angrier you seem to people.
Hiding your hands in your pockets means a lot of things, which is why it’s important to interpret body language as a whole. But in most cases people put their hands in their pockets when they're nervous.
Clasped hands resting on the table is a mini-version of crossing your arms over your chest. Sitting with your fingers laced together and your hands raised off the table sends the same message: “I’m shutting myself off, and I don’t want to talk to you.”
Instead of slouching, straighten your back, look ahead of you, and pick your feet up when you walk. These tips will improve your appearance even more than a new suit or a stunning dress!
While we usually put our hands on the lips simply because we don’t know where to put our hands, it’s still a pretty intimidating pose to see on a conversation partner. We unconsciously touch our mouth when we're lying and many people know this. Also, when you cover your mouth, it can be hard to understand what you're saying.
Clinching your hands looks like you’re literally about to punch someone in the face or you’re ready to defend yourself.
Eye contact could be the most important part of communication. If you tend to maintain too much eye contact or you simply want to avoid doing so, try to fidget with something every once in a while, maybe lint on your pants or something in your salad. Just don’t overdo the fake distractions because you’ll seem impolite.
There have been a lot of cool psychological studies on this topic, but to keep it short: we copy people who we like, and we like people who copy us.

SUMMARY
-When you grip your wrist or forearm behind your back, it sends a strong negative signal to those around you.
-Standing with your ankles crossed shows that you don't completely believe in the things you're saying.
-Clasped hands resting on the table send a message: “I’m shutting myself off, and I don’t want to talk to you.”
-The higher you place your arms on the table, the more you want to hide behind them.
-Slouching gives the impression that you feel helpless, unconfident, and miserable in life.
-People perceive such a tight-lipped smile as sarcasm and smugness.
-Sitting at a table and talking to a person with your hand extended out towards them tells your conversation partner that you want them to stop talking.
-Standing with your hands on your hips says, “Well, what do you wanna tell me? I’ll probably disagree anyway!”
-Unless you’re actually hitch-hiking, don’t point your thumb behind you while talking to someone. This gesture can often be regarded as a sign of disrespect.
-Clinching your hands reveals hidden anger and fear.
-You shouldn't cover your mouth with your hand when you talk because the person you're speaking with might think that you're hiding something.
-We often shake our fingers at someone when we really want to convince someone of our point of view on a certain matter.
-Smile sincerely, don’t force or fake it. Eye contact is key. Tilt your head. Use your brows. “Mirror” the person you're talking to.

You know, this video fails to point out that every gesture shouldn't be read so much into. For example, I have a habit of crossing my arms when someone is telling me something. It's just something I do to tell my body not to make a move and actually pay attention to what is being said to me. It helps me think more because my arms act as a sort of 'blockade', so that I do not act or respond until I have processed all information and actually considered my options carefully.

A body language you also shouldn't do: Grab your arm with one hand makes you look uncomfortable, shy and, uninterested in talking to someone. It also looked like something bad has happened. Putting all your fingers against each other is also a sign of shyness and timidity. Or tapping your index finger against the other index finger, which is fidgeting.

Please don't believe any of this BS. The messages that people send with body language are a totality of the positioning and movements of all parts of their bodies and faces. These gestures alone have no definitive or single meaning. Also, the relationship between two individuals will alter how body language is intended and interpreted.

People who have arms, need a place to put them. An angry look, the finger, a fist, a real gun, a knife, these are threatening. Anyone who takes the time to analyze every move and posture is a sick individual. I can tell all of these without the analysis. Mostly, this is just bovine fecal matter, and with that I am moving on to a useful site.

Why do you have to be so complicated? I think that the only way to speak to someone without them being offended is to cutoff your arms.

So according to you I’m always angry and lying. I always grip my arm behind my back because I’m fidgety and I do’s it when I get nervous not angry. I cross my ankles because I have a bad balance and I sway when I stand in place. What does that have to do with lying? Thanks a lot Brightside! You really know how to make me look bad. 😂😐

Hello I have a question: What if you are walking on the street and your crush is driving and she/he looks at you a lot instead having their eyes on the road? I'm asking because my crush lives near me and she used to ignore me but lately it seems like she looks at me more often but I don't know if she wants to talk to me, she is my neighbor for about 22 years now and we talked once in 2011 on Facebook but she gave me the impression she didn't want to talk to me. In September I sent a Happy Birthday message and she said "thanks ;)" but 3 days later I made the mistake sending her another message telling her that I knew we didn't talk much in the last years and hoped she was okay, she saw the message but didn't reply, two days later she removed from Facebook and now she looks at me a lot every time I see, I want to wave at her but don't know what to do. :/ Hope this makes sense because English is not my first Language.

Very constructive tips bright side team, thanks for bringing the information to us, keep it up. All the best for your efforts. Good videos, I learn something new every time, I watch your videos. Many of your positive videos have changed how I see my life in a positive way and others around me and it has really improved my behaviour towards other people. You know, no one would come to me and teach these all things instantly. You are giving so valuable information which is very important in our everyday life, thanks once again. And one thing I want to highlight is, I really love your channel because, you explain everything in speech along with the video which is very useful to me as I am a visually impaired, I know there are many KZbin channels out there, but I always love yours because of your beautiful explanation and narration along with the video I like the speech along with a video.
