SUMMARY
-You should shake someone's hand quickly without holding it for too long or pulling it toward you. Don't use a crushing grip, but be firm.
-If you find it hard to be punctual, learn some tricks to avoid being late. For example, prepare everything you'll need to take with you in advance, and put these items in a specific place. Try to predict any delays that might happen.
-The rules of common courtesy say that there should always be a mediator present when 2 people meet for the first time.
-The right clothes can boost your confidence and make a good impression on others. Don't buy clothes with imperfect shoulders. All parts of a suit should be the same style and in the correct size. A jacket sleeve should cover your wrist, but it shouldn't cover the lower joint of your thumb.
-Wait until the host invites you to the table. Don't sit down at the table without an invitation because there may be a seat assigned to you. Pay attention to your hands, and don’t put them on the table. It’s better to keep them in your lap.
-Keep your knees close to each other and your legs parallel. You can also use a royal trick called the “Cambridge Cross": put one foot behind the other, crossing your ankles.
-If you go to a restaurant with a group of people, wait until everyone has taken their seats. Typically, you should start your meal with the utensils farthest from your plate. After that, move toward the center.
-For women, it's important to make sure that your lipstick doesn't leave a mark on your glass. Dry your lips with a tissue before drinking. Every person at the table should pour their own drink.
-Stir your tea carefully without making sounds with the teaspoon. You shouldn't leave your spoon in the cup. Rest it on the edge of your saucer.

Thank you for your help in teaching us what we forgot or never was taught. The lady sitting, is correct in her position. My comment is a thanks for not comparing to the Queen. She has always been correct, doesn’t need to be teased, just because you don’t know. Reminds me of Miss Manners. More, more!

1:49 Never forget to introduce others! A certain of person I know never does this, so I have to introduce myself when the new person asks who I am, or when I have to tell my 'friend' something. :| 2:55 There's a saying for the buttons on men's jackets. "Sometimes, always, never." If it's a three button jacket the top button can be however you want, the middle button is always done, the bottome button is never done. IIRC for a two button jacket it's "always, never" but I could be wrong.

I was taught to always be 10 minutes early or you were late. As soon as I could tell time I learned to figure time backwards. Meaning knowing how long everything takes you in the morning so you arrive on time, 30 minutes to shower, 15 for breakfast, make bed, etc. There was a countdown of sorts to follow. I still do this mentally to this day and its come in handy.

I am always conscious of this so use the cupped hand method, this infuses warmth and genuine concern. It also requires no pressure. Alternatively kissing a ladies hand is often unexpected and conveys a warm but professional and confident persona. We are too stuck up in the UK. I always ask before doing something and always serve my interlocutors whatever the setting.

Going into fitting rooms is the number one reason. All of these rules are man made which mean someone made them up! I love breaking rules that I can't be overpowered for. I used to have really thin forearms and never wore watches as they never fit, but kept getting them as gifts. so I would wear it for a while on my upper arm and it drove people absolutely bat dung crazy! I got ragged on for how I carried my handbag (like a football) and even eating my food swapped together! Let people be themselves!

My parent's taught my sibling's and I etiquette, as did our grandparent's. I learned how to use it better ,when I was made protocol officer or something like that... I had been in AFJROTC. We would have banquet's for awards that I don't recall, if I ever won one. However, the school photographer took my photo with some of my then fiance friends around me. The question in the album asked , if I was a princess or future president and it was eerily correct about me being a Royal Princess. My dad's relative in the 16-1700's married a member of the Queen's family making me a British Royal having been born in the UK. My birth certificate I held with the Attorney General, as where all Royal birth certificates are held. I was shocked to find out ,although the registrar didn't title me a princess, he put it on paper with a lion on it recognising the significance of my dad's name. Now, I understand why I've been treated better, since finding out. My title is on the Electoral register. As it is now on the Electoral register, it is appropriate for me to use my title on my documents and such to identify that I'm amongst the Royal Family and potentially on my mum's side, too. The name Potter is prevalent in both side's of my family that is significant ,also as there is something about the name and my Royal Jewish heritage. So, as a Royal living as a Commoner ; I know you must be polite and courteous at all times, even when ill.

About knife and fork position: different angle will have different look. I place horizontal way, but the waiter sees vertically. It may apply when 1 waiter/table for the entire time. He doesn't have anything else to do besides staring at the guest's table. 3+ tables/waiter, he only has time to breath.

The knife and fork thing would only work and be noticed in a really, really posh restaurant. The kind of restaurant most people watching this can't afford to go to. You think the college kids that serve you your food care how your knife and fork sit?! As long as they are in the plate and you haven't gotten the edges of the plate dirty, all is good.

I saw a movie of the times of the French Revolution how a gentleman asked a lady to dance; he did bow and she made a reverence (not sure what's the appropriate word for the lady's gesture). When I was a kid in France a French girl, neighbor of my French aunt and uncle, did the reverence to my mom when she met her. I was in awe. I doubt they still do this nowadays!

I think that etiquette is still very important to follow. Today's society has either completely forgotten about it, or they have never been taught/ learned it. (Sad)

No, you are not! I'd bet you just did not grow up in an environment of frequent social life. I did, so all this comes as second nature to me.

He may have had a frequent social life, just more casual than the ritualistic engagements depicted here. Strict rule and ritual followers tend to be bores in my opinion. I personally like a more lively set. I was raised by a grandmother who practiced many of these customs as she worked for rich people and witnessed it regularly. We were taught them but never passed them on. A lot of elbows and cell phones on my children's tables.

You don't need to be rich for living know how. It's second nature for the middle class in a lot of countries around the world. Never found these gatherings boring at all; on the contrary, always looked forward to these lively social gatherings.

Me too and I've taught my 3 daughters and my 3 year old granddaughter. Also, even at home, no elbows on the table, no talking with food in your mouth and chew with your mouth closed. Those might be common sense to some people but I've noticed that it's a REAL problem with some people
