We learned this in 1980-The Empire Strikes Back. When Luke leaves Hoth in the X-wing his hyperdrive is working. The Millennium Falcon leaves Hoth at the same time, but with a broken hyperdrive. Luke spends about a month on Dagobah learning the Force and Jedi philosophy from Yoda. By comparison, Han, Leia, Chewie and 3PO spend a day or so dodging the Empire and going to Bespin/Cloud City. Fun facs:: Russia has 11 time zones, but China has only 1. There are a few places on Earth where the time zones differ from adjacent zones by 30 minutes. That's crazy making for me. Also crazy making is that I have ADHD, only diagnosed at age 30. I was chronically late for Everything. I've tried gadgets, special calendars, multiple alarm clocks unsuccessfully. Even getting up an hour earlier than I needed to, I would still be late. Threats of job termination, being 30 minutes late to final exams, missing flights and medical procedures, frustrated dating, even getting stranded a mile from the summit of Mount Washington overnight and nearly so skiing the Alps, etc. Even sleep studies failed to detect a significant baseline circadian rhythm. I was extremely stressed out and frustrated by this. But then, maybe 5 years ago, something happened and I have no explanation. I'm on time All the time. (except maybe 3 times last year. Effortlessly. Without tricks or gadgets or alarms. I'm actually early most of the time. I don't understand it at all. But what a huge relief from stress. 😊

I have always said too that we do look into the past, also if you pick a finite point in time and identify it by saying "now" it has already passed when it come out of your mount, you can pinpoint an exact instance in time, but then it has vanished. Time is really an interesting subject, what exactly is it, just a series of "nows" moving through space, and we are just along for the ride.

I could "holler" over and speak to my neighbors across the state line and have actual and understandable and understood conversations. What's mind-blowing is that the entire universe is always, only, and exactly Now, physical state everywhere causing/flowing from one moment to the next. The perception of flowing time is fundamentally not time 'moving', but is physical reality changing. If all physical state around your awareness completely stopped, you wouldn't know if time had passed. Our perception of time requires 1) state/forces to change, 2) a memory or storage of prior state, and 3) comparison/differencing of what's occurring now compared to stored prior state (producing the forces we call consciousness). Without memory or change, we wouldn't perceive what we call time.

We've all heard of the International Date Line, where if you cross it you can either go ahead or behind 1 calendar day. But there actually is another place where this happens on Earth --- that is wherever it happens to be midnight (12:00 AM). The former one is fixed while the latter continuously moves around the planet. And when midnight occurs on the IDL it's the same day everywhere on Earth. Explaining why we even have the IDL would have been a good topic to bring up on this video about time.

Thank you for another thought provoking video on time.After studying, observing and thinking about this subject for seven decades, here is some derivatives of that effort: This is not a scientific comment, but a 'relative to us mortals' analogy. Time is, to us individually and all we have direct contact with, a river. It flows, it has a source, but relative to us, possesses no exit. The 'flow of time' carries us all along, involuntarily, at the same pace. Yet, to those stuck in that flow, time is not perceived the same by each passenger. As an example, to the young couple in love, sitting on a park bench in the dabbled shade with a slight breeze blowing on a 72 degree day, time flashes by; to a person sitting on a hot stove, 30 seconds would seem an eternity. Yet, all three would be flowing with time at the same pace. Every time we look at the stars we are time traveling back to the moment the star, or other entity, sent that light out/reflected light. It appears that being made up of bundles of energy causes our relationship with time to change as compared to pure, free energy (which appears unaffected by time). Because our matter is stationary energy, we are thus caught in that 'flow of time' whether we are a living entity, a stone or as large as a star. So, in a mad race to use up that segment of time we mortals are allotted, we endeavor to measure this flow by various means. The understanding of the science of time, as important and majestic as that is, will not affect how our individual relationship with time is at all. Being aware of that 'flow of time' and keeping that awareness in balance is our challenge.

There's a clock in Bristol UK that has two minute hands, one shows uk time, the other is about 20 minutes behind that shows local time The world is a 24 hour thing these days, there's no need to keep changing times, especially when countries do it on dfferent days, it's confusing for commerce, you have to keep checking what time it is in other countries. All my clocks stay on GMT, the only thing i do is set my alarm for 1 hour earlier during the summer. Think of it this way, if your boss said you had to start work an hour earlier, you would complain. I think we feel more tired during the summer too.

Relativity isn’t the magic many people assume it to be. I am sitting so my position relative to the earth is fixed. Earth rotates though so my speed in relation to Earth facing the sun is approximately 1,000 mph. My speed in relation to Earth orbiting the sun is approximately 67,000 mph. My speed in relation to the Milky Way moving across the universe is approximately 1.3 million miles per hour. Everything is relative and perspective is what that’s all about.

The only time I have delt with Daylight saving time was during my 2 years living as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Romania. I was born and spent the first 14 years of my life in Hawaii and then moved to Arizona the two states that don't do Daylight Saving time. I do think we should get ride of it as it doesn't do anyone any good.

Daylight Savings was to preserve candles, which were a major commodity at the time of it's creation. Then it was reinforced during WWI to conserve energy. So basically it's always had to do with energy usage in some form or another.

These facts are interesting in the context of general knowledge, but I don’t find them to be particularly relevant to my spirituality. Time is an illusion. It is a man-made concept created to relate people to the universe and each other. Ultimately, what we view as time does not exist. Alan Watts had a very interesting viewpoint on time if anyone is interested.

Daylight Saving Time does NOT lengthen the day. It determines when we wake up and enjoy the sunshine. Keep it or ditch it, it doesn't matter on a personal basis, you can get up whenever you want. Howevwer, to align with the rest of humanity, we must agree on a standard time frame.
