How Do You Think Quantum Computing Will Change the World?
@Kders6 ай бұрын
Oh, we’ll definitely use it to level the playing field. It’ll benefit both rich and poor, slowly blurring then eliminating social, economic and racial barriers, as we are unified by objective facts and common interests. We’ll lay out frameworks to soften the impacts of automation, protecting people from joblessness, poverty and destitution. As we globally drive toward becoming an ecologically conscious interplanetary species, Keanu Reeves will tell us “it’s about damn time”, and share his species’ secret blueprints for (almost) FTL travel. Scratch that - Kaku just said fighting robots. I’ll settle for those. Michio GUNDAMUUUU

Quantum computing will eventually change almost EVERY aspect of our lives. Perhaps an easier question to answer is what won’t it change! I think for example, it won’t generate the original thought I’m currently using my thumbs to communicate. But it will change how that thought is communicated…speed, breadth and perhaps accuracy. Another thing we will still have is…imperfection. Because humans!

I see what you were trying to do by inviting the comedians. Having the perspective of people who don't know about quantum computers on the panel so we could relate. But i think their comments were not an addition to the conversation. Maybe they thought their job was to make the topic lighter and easier to digest but in doing so they made it harder to understand. Maybe if they focus on doing comments that deepen the conversation it would've been better for the conversation and for us, the viewers. Or maybe bring comedians that have some background in science. The cynics in the comments section have to understand that it's Tyson's passion to make esoteric subjects in science like quantum computing accessible to people who otherwise might not ever have had an interest in the subject. The more people who are aware of the potentials of what science teaches, the better chance we have as a literate society that can more aptly maintain our technological prowess. It's either that, or you have a clueless society where only a small percentage of individuals who know how to maintain our information infrastructure, and that doesn't sound like a long-term sustainable proposition, does it?

It’s really impossible to tell when a big breakthrough will happen. It could be tomorrow. The limitation isn’t unknown physics. It’s an engineering problem at this point, which is infinitely simpler than inventing new physics. And it only has to happen once. Once a general quantum computer is built, devices no longer need to compute independently of the quantum computer. Everything that can query the quantum computer will, in essence, be a quantum computer.

Every computer is a quantum computer, computers compute the Quantity or Quantum of values. Semi conductors of the computers in ROOM TEMPERATURE have reached their operating frequency's speed limit. Transistors are ionic switches that with higher frequency of switching they get hot and create errors / noise. The most practical way of cooling the processors is with Heat Sinks and Fans which we have been using. Quantum Computers are the higher frequency computers with liquified gas cooling pipes. Concept and the technique of parallel processing is as old as the invention of IC (integrated circuit). We can connect multiple fan cooled regular computers in parallel to achieve the same performance of a Quantum Computer, all we need is a synchronization algorithm to compensate for network latency, same as the one for supper computers.

Why so many negative comments about the guest comedians!? 🤨 It was a pleasant surprise to see Tiffany Haddish on the show! ❤ - She is relatable, down to earth, and NOT just for "entertainment purposes". Her humor is a bonus imo. I think the idea of having guests without a scientific background encourages any and everyone to ask questions, seek answers curiously, form your own hypotheses, and to discover life through your unique perspective. When we shut down ideas because they do not fit a certain mold or it doesn't align with what we already "know", then we're moving backwards. Let's move forward by listening inclusively (and respectfully) to new voices. Theories are just theories and truth includes all truths.

If that's true, how come a single electron or photon interact with itself and passes through the both slits? Infact, the reason we do not see an interference pattern when a single photon or electron is shot towards the slits is because of low statistics. Its confirmed in an experiment called the Low Intensity Double Slit Experiment.

This interview consists of four primary input variables: Jordan AND Tiffany, OR Neil AND Michio. Now for this video to be logical, we input all four of them into a K-Map. @countdown41006 ай бұрын
I'm like 10 minutes in but hearing Michio grossly misrepresenting what quantum computing is, makes me think that every word he says has been paid for. Factual errors so far: 1. We can't make a transistor smaller than 50nm - that's a very pessimistic estimate for what silicone transistors can achieve. Even if that is true, there are other materials that can make a transistor an order of magnitude smaller. 2. We can make a "quantum" transistor with 1 atom - wtf is a quantum transistor? Even if the quantum properties are held by a single atom, we still need a whole bunch of other atoms to actually interact with it. 3. Traditional transistors can only perform a boolean function - this is just flat out wrong. Even though this is the manner in which we currently use transistors on most microchips, we only do so to boost the signal integrity of the chip. Transistors can be fully closed, open and anything in between, using the in-between is more widely known as analogue computing and is seeing increasing adoption as fabrication abilities improve. A commercialized example of this is the NAND cells on SSD's, QLC flash memory uses transistors to differentiate between 16 different levels, not just on or off. 4. Quantum computers will make traditional computers obsolete - there is no basis for this whatsoever. Quantum computers are horrificly slow at traditional computing tasks and there is no indication that this will change in the foreseeable future. The point of a quantum computer is that it can perform some operations which are impossible for a traditional computer which in turn can speed up some specific types of algorithms. As it stands however, traditional computers are still several orders of magnitude faster at even those specific algorithms and the gap is increasing because nobody has figured out how to scale up quantum computers from the few hundred qbits achieved so far.

No, an expert in rocket science can confidently say he understands it. An expert in quantum mechanics understands as much of the quantum realm as a baby understands about the Earth, even though it lives on it. So, if an expert in quantum mechanics is having a hard time understanding it, you certainly are not one to have a spherical opinion on the matter. Dr. Neil Degrassi is the man and he doesn't take credit for what others do, he praises.

The comedians almost make it unlistenable. Which is crazy because I love the topic along with niel and michio

Even Neil gets schooled by Michio about sound wave particles. Awesome. Never stop learning!

I don't know why on Earth they think adding a comedian or two makes it easier to understand? In fact, by interrupting every 10 seconds they make it much more difficult. Although ... Michio Kaku is nearly always wrong about everything, so in THIS case I don't care!

It can be a good idea to have present someone out of the area of expertise being discussed, that person would represent the audience, if they had a question probably the audience has it too, it doesn't matter their background (comedian, actor, journalist, lawyer,...), that person only has to be someone also genuinely interested in being there and articulated enough to clearly express their thoughts, and honestly in this discussion it didn't seem the case, but it was a interesting topic

these live events are priceless, the comedic relief is good but needs to be limited, anyway the lkive events were amazing back in 19-20
