You said something very important that gets swept under the rug, kids with adhd are 2-3x more likely to use illegal drugs. However this is not from being prescribed medication, it’s from the lack of it, people with adhd often have a bit of autism (rarely noticeable) and more importantly they have a dopamine deficiency, if their body is lacking something wether we know it or not people seek it out, an example of this would be a guy who ate the eyes of the fish he would catch and he didn’t know why but it had a nutrient in it his body was severely lacking. Kids with adhd don’t know they have a dopamine deficiency and if left untreated it leads them to seek it out whether they know what they’re doing or not… errr I posted this in comments as well, I didn’t realize this was pinned 😂

My little brother died almost a year ago now last January. He just turned 15 and bought a Percocet from some guy on Snapchat, long story short it was laced with fentanyl and we lost him as soon as he took the pill. It's crazy how fast your life can change, especially when there is literally no warning like withdrawals or cravings. He smoked weed a little but that was it. I never thought that a pill could be dangerous but one stupid pill changed my family's lives forever. Great video, appreciate the care with each subject

See, these are things the public is not taught. Those meds can nearly kill you, withdrawing in the short term, but you wake up the next day, and everything is normal. Nobody explains it that way. I was on Clonazepam (klonopin) at first then Diazepam (valium). I knew what I was doing was severely harming me and everyone else in my life so I was too afraid to seek actual help and just quit all at once abruptly. God that withdrawal was hell. I'm around almost 3 months sober. I don't ever recommend quitting all suddenly like that. If you want to do that please seek medical help for that.

Thankfully, when I wanted to stop taking Xanax after 15 years, Kratom helped and I was able to stop taking it before I ever needed a higher dose. The terrifying thing is that getting off benzos only takes one small mistake in the way you do it and you might be dead. 5 months later and I still have random days where everything will be fine and then withdrawals will kick in. Getting off Benzos is truly nightmarish, even when done step by step the right way and having help.+

Benzos are in a universe all to themselves in terms of withdrawals. 2.5 YEARS of acute withdrawals here after only 9 months of daily use. Sky-high blood pressure, black depression, constant panic, escalating OCD, nightmares, insomnia, moderate dementia, 40-lb weight gain, the worst constipation of my life, severe menstrual cramps and total cessation of my periods were just SOME of my symptoms. My libido went AWOL on Day 1 of withdrawals & took 10 years to return (2013-2023). Granted, I did quit cold turkey but I couldn't stand taking another dose of that sickly sweet etizolam poison.

One of my cousins died of lung cancer. He was given morphine for his pain. When one of his id10t nurses refused to give him his dose, he was screaming and you could hear him outside the hospital. My sister called his oncologist, the nurse was reassigned, and my cousin died not too much later. Who cares if he was addicted? My father was addicted to both alcohol and cigarettes. He died at age 86. His death certificate said his death was not tobacco related. Not everyone gets cancer. The cousin earlier mentioned? likely his cancer was caused by his addition to cigarettes. No two people are identical.

As a retired RN, I am outraged that any nurse would refuse to medicate a patient for pain. That is cruel and inexcusable. If that nurse was afraid the dose would be fatal, he or she should have gotten a colleague to medicate your cousin. The Amer. Nurses Assoc. ( ANA) also states that if a nurse medicates a patient with the intent to relieve pain and they die as a result, they have acted correctly. (They did not commit murder, in other words.) I am so sorry that happened to your cousin.

The sad thing is morphine isn't even that good of a pain reliever. I usually ask for hydromorphone or Oxycontin. Morphine has been shown to be about as strong as Vicodin and for what your cousin had he should have been getting way better than that in the first place. My brother who's an X boxer already knows to take that hospital apart if they ever refused me my prescribed pain medication especially in my final days😮

Listen. I feel your pain. My mother died like that. But I, as a critical care RN for 30 years, understand nurses have constraints put upon us that patients and families don't recognize. It can be as simple as a doctor's order restricting pain meds. During this time, we are all put in a narrow place regarding what's best for the patient at this moment. We don't want to overdose someone before the family comes in to say goodbye. Or simply that the MD writes to stay at a certain limit. It's a stressful period that all needs to fall into place to everyone's satisfaction, so I feel I need to give the nurse the benefit of the doubt.

Drug addicts are going to find drugs. Just like alcoholics will find alcohol. It's proven that the war on drugs isn't working and has only made things worse. Hospitals used to help people. Now being in pain isn't an issue and shouldn't be treated. Pain is a big issue and for us chronic pain patients it does determine whether we can move and whether life is even worth living. Pain patients who get kicked off meds sometimes turn to street drugs . Others just off themselves.

Most drugs you can put into a category and it fits most uses. Cannabis is not that way. there are too many STRAINS and factors to consider. You can't throw them all in one basket like you can with alcohol. Too much confusion too on labeling drugs. klonopins and xanax are the same drug just different doses. PLUS at the extra names for the same thing. Catapress and clonodine for example.

They're in the same drug CLASS like how antihistamines do different things and work differently but they're separate drugs. Clonazepam is moderately strong and its effects last longer while Xanax is pretty strong and sedating with the effects wearing off a lot quicker. For some the effects may only last 2-4 hours for Xanax. Klonopin can last as long as 12 hours at times.

Pain is no joke and having to show ID to get Sudafed when you’re sick is ridiculous Some people are just prone to addiction Lots of people become addicted to pain meds because they’re given too much and/ or too strong of a medication and told not to miss a dose It’s much more effective when you’re on the right dose of the right medication and take it as needed My physician told me a little pain isn’t going to kill you but please take it before the pain makes functioning impossible When I had my C-section I was put on a pain pump to dose myself The nurse noticed I was struggling to get out of bed and checked my machine to see if she needed to increase the dose She told me I could be taking it more often And I asked why should I take more It hurts getting out of bed but I’m fine once I’m up Anything can be overdone or abused and people who really need it and don’t abuse it could get what they need if there weren’t people abusing it or doctors who over prescribed it

I have been on stimulants for ADHD for more than 6 years. One stay in a psych hospital the doctor refused to prescribe them all of my 2 week stay. I was sleeping at least 18 hours a day for the entire 2 weeks. They didn't change my medications in any other way and because I was asleep I didn't get any other treatment. I paid for receiving zero treatments.

Its weird because when I'm off my meds (which I currently am because I decided not to set up an appointment after I ran out because as odd as it sounds, I think my ADHD meds were making me gain weight because in the evening after they wore off I'd be insatiably hungry even if I ate full meals throughout the day) my sleep is awful. I have terrible insomnia, but can fall asleep after taking most stimulant medications and my sleep cycle is much better when I'm on them. Off of them, I struggle to fall asleep before 3-4am, but on them, I tend to go to bed much closer to 10pm. I still have trouble falling asleep, but it isn't me fighting for over 6hrs to fall asleep, it's more like 30mins to an hour. One doctor tried to give me trazdone to help me sleep, but it gave me a ton of energy instead. Melatonin puts me to sleep, but doesn't keep me asleep, so I wake up about 3hrs after taking it wide awake. I'm currently taking about 3 benadryl and two Tylenol every night with it not working very well most nights. I'm afraid to try Ambien.

Weird, I sleep better on Adderall. I have terrible insomnia without it. I have ADHD but wasn’t diagnosed until I was almost 30. I quit taking Adderall as I felt like a slave to a therapist and don’t like the feeling of not being in control. I quit last March, and in Jan 2024, still sleep terribly.

It sort of works if you turn that 30mins into 3-4hours doing chores, but 3-4hrs is way more than 30 mins and chores is so so as far as most people might consider relaxing. I mean I suppose I feel better knowing my dishes are clean and my laundry is in the wash, but... 🤷‍♀️

You use to be able to buy medicine that had codeine in it 🤷‍♂ I’m very glad he didn’t mention the 2 most dangerous legal drugs on this list but it’s dumb they didn’t research kratom, it was the companies fault mixing heavy metals into the batches and not the kratom itself that causes long term damage, you can get 3rd party lab tested kratom from reputable companies now and any deaths associated with kratom have been linked with other drugs that it’s known you shouldn’t mix with it.

Kratom is the one that got me. As a 3-time disc surgery patient who didn't want to continue opioids, I did it daily for 4 years before I finally determined it wasn't something I could continue indefinitely. But I was at the point where I couldn't go without it for even one day. If I tried, I'd go sleepless with intense restless leg--no!--whole body--syndrome. I asked my doctor for help and was put on gabapentin and muscle relaxants. It took me nearly 6 weeks to finally get a normal night's sleep.

See, unless you are seeing a pain specialist, you can get into serious trouble stopping something like Kratom. Opioids all have side effects and some awesome benefits. Just stoping an opioid like that and putting you on gabapentan can cause serious opioid withdrawal. You know, I'm a critical care Rn and even for me this stuff can be so complicated it needs serious oversight by the best practitionar you can find.

Kratom is amazing. I make ONE cup of kratom tea daily, with 1 heaping teaspoon of powdered kratom. That's it. I describe it as a combo of caffeine+antidepressant, without the anxiety. Just...take less.

One of the side effects of Gabapentin is Depression. It got very severe and not one doctor picked up on it. I had to research Gabapentin online myself to find this out. I stopped the Gabapentin and I was fine in a few weeks.

I used a strong benzodiazepine for 7 years, and I had such severe withdrawals that one year after tapering off them I could not do my job. I started it again and have been using it for three additional years. I am now trying another taper, this time with a psychiatrist since I have access to one at no charge through my comprehensive low cost Czech health insurance. I did not have that in Texas when I began my first taper.

Mike, please do more research on Kratom. There have been less deaths directly associated with Kratom, over the last 10 years, then there are with the legal "opiods" on a daily basis. When Kratom is used where necessary, it can completely change a person's life. I definitely believe that it needs to be regulated to eliminate bad actors, but I can attest to it's safety. Due to chronic pain issues, I simply do not know where I'd be if it weren't for Kratom, these last 6 years.

The pain doc I'm seeing wants to give me a steroid shot for my loss of cartilage in my back. As a Type 1 diabetic steroids send my blood into the dangerous zone. Kratom seems like a possible alternative.

Kratom has been the best thing I've ever done. It can ease my anxiety, help with back pain, help me sleep when I need it. I have gone through times of taking heavy amounts of it and never had any health issues. But bc it is still so new (in the states at least) I did cut back. But yeah I'd definitely tell anyone who's doctor got them hooked on pain meds to try it. My back was bad for a long time and I ended up doc shopping until I couldn't get anymore help. I went to my vape shop and finally tried it and it was almost instantly I could tell a difference. I will say that the "name brands" are not as good as places like mystic island. They have always been great.

Took me 2 yrs of cutting back before sober. Doctors said i needed a new liver or die but advised against quitting cold turkey. I cut back slipping time to time. 2 yrs of cutting back and now 4 yrs no more alcohol. Quit drinking pop and dont eat any more junk food. Now they say my liver is good and no more transplant. Its hard but can be done

SSRIs and SNRIs are very dangerous if you suddenly stop taking them. I was on an SNRI and it took me two years to wean off of it and it was HELL. There are studies coming out now that are saying that the SSRIs and SNRIs really aren't effective for treatment for depression as first thought.

Opiods: If you have pain, okay. However, just because the prescription is written as 1 every 4 or 6 hours, does NOT mean you have to take it. Hydrocodone is known to produce "rebound pain", which makes it feel like you have an increase of pain as soon as the drug completes its first half-life. However, to make sure that you are truly experiencing "real" pain, one should wait one more hour to confirm "real" pain is experienced. If you experienced a "rebound" pain, typically, that pain will go away within one hour. Also note: Addiction occurs when one is NOT IN REAL PAIN, but still consumes the opioid. No addiction occurs if one takes the medication during real pain episodes. Long-term use of opioids can cause TOLERENCE. However, TOLERENCE does NOT equal addiction. If you ONLY take the opioid during pain episodes, you will not become addicted. If pain, ok. If NO PAIN, do not take it.

Yes, you are correct. I used to get fentanyl patches to help with break thru pain. I usually only needed them during the summer months & a couple of days during the winter sometimes. Now I can no longer get them because of the idiots that started manufacturing these pills that kill people. I’ve been on disability for over 20 yrs & on pain meds since longer than that. I'm feeling quite depressed and this probably wasn't the best video to watch tonight because the depression is so bad tonight that I was tempted to try some of these in hopes to feel nothing at all. I know that wasn't the intent of the video, but it doesn't change how I feel. Don't worry though, I'm not going to follow through with that thought, I know better. It's just the Holidays get to me really bad, most of my family is dead, I'm living in a new place where I don't really know many people, and someone who I thought was my friend turned out to not be as good of a friend as I initially thought they were. Turns out they probably wouldn't notice if something terrible happened to me. He hasn't bothered to check in on me in almost a month when he used to call every day. Be careful with methadone. Heroin withdrawals won't kill you, even though they make you wish you were dead. Methadone withdrawals CAN kill you! But if it helps with your pain, just make sure you don't get physically addicted to it. I cut my opiate use in half when I started using cannabis for pain.

I am a disabled veteran and suffer mind-bending paìn and have been on every pain killer made. When they started with opioid addiction ìt has made my life a night mare. What do you think would give me a life worth living? Do you think aspirin would do the job for fractured disk in my back and neck? What do you think would be better to help with the pain? I also had emergency surgery for a brain injury and open heart surgery. Included to all of that I have nerve damage in my left side and leg. It never stops hurting and burning. The only thing the VA can offer is to remove my leg and fuse my entire spine that would put me in a chair for as long as I live. Give me something that will work or an idea of something.

Dextromethorphan has recently (within about the past 5 years) been shown to be useful for treating treatment resistant depression. However, the upper maximum per 24hrs is 90mg with the maximum upper limit per dose being 45mg UNLESS otherwise instructed by your provider (will typically be one that specializes in psychiatry). I've been on it since July of '22 and had positive changes that my therapist and psychiatry provider in just 2 weeks and by week 3, I was noticing the changes myself (less gloomy, brighter outlook for life). Typically meds used for depression take about 6 weeks or longer IF the medication works at all.

I suffered from chronic ongoing back pain for over 3 decades due to 5 failed back surgeries. The ONLY release I found for pain was Oxicodone. 10-325. It was an ongoing nightmare trying to find a clinic or a MD that would prescribe the pain medication I required to just function. Addiction has little to with enjoying the buzz, it has more to do with detesting the withdrawal. Weed is slightly addictive. I smoked a lot of it a long time ago, and when I quit I was super-cranky to the point of rage for about 5 days or so and then it went away. I just woke up less than a week later and it was completely over. I even hung on to my job. Nowadays if I ever get weed (which I do much less often now) I know full well that I'm gonna be a cranky ass mofo for a few days after I run out. All the better reason not to overdo it since I just get tolerant to it anyway. So yes, weed IS addictive--but it's very mild and easily kicked once you know what you're in for, and it isn't serious.

Because of health problem, I have to take scription meds, including Ambien for insomnia. I've been so desperate to get off the meds (because of fear of long term use). I tried legal cannabis for sleep...a tiny bit and I had the creepiest audio hallucinations. I listen to audio to help me sleep and the hallucination was the story or music scrambling, FF and weirdly, seemed to start several seconds later. I'll take my chances with Ambien.

I’ve noticed a lot of things on this list can cause seizures. I have epilepsy and deal with these a lot. Not gonna tell yall not to do something because isn’t my place but I can tell you how to respond if someone is having a seizure, so here goes… 1. Time the seizure, and Call emergency services. Even if they’ve had seizures before, the additional substation could make it worse. 2. NEVER HOLD THEM DOWN OR PUT ANYTHING INTO THEIR MOUTH. You put yourself at risk of being injured and them by doing either of these. 3. Put a jacket or pillow under their head if you can. 4. If you can, move any objects like chairs or furniture away from the from them. DO NOT TRY TO MOVE THEM. 5. If they have stopped seizing before emergency services arrive, turn them onto their side and lightly pull their chin son so any saliva or blood can drain. They may be very confused or fearful after, so speak to them in a calm manner. Tell them they had a seizure and help is on the way. Do not yell or try and get them to “snap out of it”. This will not help. 5. When emergency services arrive, be honest. Tell them exactly what was taken and how much if you know. They aren’t the drug police and neither are the doctors and nurses. There might be an antidote like Narcan for opioid overdose. Tell them how long the seizure has lasted thus far and if they are awake by the time help arrives, just try and keep them calm.

I have pcos and I had a cyst rupture a few years ago. One of the most painful things I have ever experienced. At the hospital I was given morphine through an IV. As soon as they gave it to me I started giggling and couldn't stop for a while. It actually scared me how euphoric it made me feel. I asked the nurse if my reaction was normal fearing a possible allergic reaction. I had never been given morphine before. She assured me my reaction was normal. It really scared me and I really don't understand why we can't create a pain medication that isn't so addictive. If I had an addictive personality I would have definitely tried to get more.

You said something very important that gets swept under the rug, kids with adhd are 2-3x more likely to use illegal drugs. However this is not from being prescribed medication, it’s from the lack of it, people with adhd often have a bit of autism (rarely noticeable) and more importantly they have a dopamine deficiency, if their body is lacking something wether we know it or not people seek it out, an example of this would be a guy who ate the eyes of the fish he would catch and he didn’t know why but it had a nutrient in it his body was severely lacking. Kids with adhd don’t know they have a dopamine deficiency and if left untreated it leads them to seek it out whether they know what they’re doing or not.

I’m not a doctor but people have good results taking Ginko Balboa (it helps regulate your adrenal glands) and a small serotonin booster to help regulate mood, it’s much healthier than having some kid fry their dopamine and seratonin receptors on prescription amohetamines.

I was told by a doctor that nicotine is 10× more addictive than heroin. The information didn't help me stop smoking either. ( to clarify, I've never used heroin)

I am a recovering addict (drink and weed) also inadvertantly prescribed meds. I am free of active addiction for quite a long while, all but one, - cigarettes!!! The addictive qualities of tobacco cannot be underestimated! I so long to quit smoking but so far have failed. I'm not giving up giving up though. God Bless. Xxxxx

I had an full blown alcoholic in my band that played the table steel. He has been to rehab and jail many times. He stays on probation for DUI and has a restricted license. He can drive with a breath analyzer. I helped him get his heavy instrument out of his car and noticed mouth wash bottles in the trunk! I asked a nurse what was up with that. She said he will violate parole -lose his license and go to jail with a DUI if he drinks! So he drinks this poison to function. He died of cirrhosis of the liver at 45!! 😢😔

There's a huge difference between being an addict and being physically dependent on necessary medications. Kratom saved my life, and the withdrawal is not that bad, and it's short-lived.

I just lost my pinki and part of my pointed system due to the tranquilizer they put in the fentanyl you buy on the streets. The fentanyl isn’t the problem anymore it’s the tranquilizer they put on it. It causes huge wounds that won’t heal on their own so you end up having body parts chopped off or huge holes in your legs

Anti depressants are definitely worth a mention. I was on them for years and withdrawal is horrific; I'd be sick and dizzy not to mention the brain zaps that can last for months. I still use benzos that are prescribed to help with occasional panic attacks, I only take them either during an attack or if I know something is going to trigger one (medical procedures usually l). Despite being on a fairly low dose people are always asking to buy them off me. I always refuse but I've been offer quite a lot of money for them. I remember being prescribed codeine after dental surgery and people offering to bu that too, it is available over the counter but I had a strength that was only available via prescription. I actually hated taking them though. I had all of the above drugs free via the NHS so I could have made a decent profit! 😂

I've known/know some guys who take too many OTC Tylenol 1s for the codeine. When they pop them they are getting way too much acetaminophen which is the number one cause of liver failure in America. One of the guys used to mix up at least 100 T1s in water and pour it through a coffee filter all the time, daily for over a year he said, and he told me he'd get so constipated from the codeine that blood would sometimes come out when he shit.

Way more dangerous than opioids matter of fact a lot of these so called opioid overdoses are from mixing opioid and benzos. Valium and Xanax seem to be the two biggies. Alcohol another biggie.

I had a horrible auto accident in 87. I can’t take Aspirin, Ibuprofen or Tylenol for general everyday pain that everyone gets. My transplant Dr prescribed marijuana to help me with pain management. I only smoke it once in awhile. Perhaps once or twice a month. My pain clinic Dr prescribed Oxycodone and Morphine for daily use for my pain management. I’ve been on pain medications since my accident in 87. I take them ONLY when I need it. I won’t take them to get “high” and though it’s prescribed to take 20mg every 4 hours, I usually wait and take them about every 6-10 hours. I take my long acting (12 hours) Morphine in the late afternoon or early evening. I simply refuse to get addicted. My aunt was addicted to pain medication and sought it out. She LOVED Demerol and would always fake a migraine so that she could get it often. I watched her and how addicted she was and I determined that I would NEVER allow myself to get addicted to any medication. It’s stupid to allow yourself to get addicted to anything that spaces you off so much that you forget hours or days of your lifetime.

I’m glad you are being safe about it but to call anything an individual person does as stupid is just an opinion, what is actually stupid is when we have a whole healthcare system that treats grown adults as children, some people have reasons for their madness, and having a government trying to control it’s people from beneficial medication out of fear of others abusing it is masking a paternalism complex this is proven by the fact our own government has been complicit in the past of helping the very drugs they deem illegal get trafficked into the country.

Let's see, for the other pain killers I've been on that are on this list: morphine makes me puke, A LOT, fentanyl was...okay...ish, but it didn't do much for me, thankfully, and they only ever gave it to me once, and under opioids, lemme think a sec...well, you know already I'm allergic to codeine, hydromorphone makes me TRIP BALLS, we're talking crazy hallucinations, and then...sigh...you've got Percocet. Literally the only downside is that it made my nose itch, but it was like floating in lavender. Soft light, soft sounds that come from very far away, I get all drowsy and happy and dreamy...and then I wake up and puke. That's the OTHER downside, but it's not as bad as it is with morphine. Keep me on percs long enough and I start to get all weepy and sentimental, though. REMEMBER, different drugs work differently for different people. When they had my dad on the same stuff when he had cancer surgery (successful, thank God), he got how I get on codeine, all snappish and irritable, but because I knew where he was coming from, and that it wasn't HIM talking, I couldn't blame the poor guy. Please also note, I ONLY ever did this sh*t in hospital, never on my own. In Canada, they send you home with a full TUBE of percs after getting your wisdom teeth out, and for God's sake, it's like, 'Guys, my pain tolerance is so high that I only need a freaking Tylenol. Calm down." And PLEASE, people, be responsible, okay, and if you're not of age, let your parents dispense to you and no one else outside of a doctor. Not trying to turn this into a PSA, but I've had more surgeries than I like, and I know what I'm talking about with this stuff.
