i enjoy watching your channel! I'm a huge fan of Donald Roller Wilson whose original artwork was used for "Romantic Mademoiselle". When I saw that pattern for sale years ago, I emailed his company and they told me they have never licensed his paintings for anything. I detest anyone using stolen artwork and presenting it as their own, so even though I would absolutely love to stitch that cute chimp in a dress, I would never purposely give someone money for stealing an artist's work. Thank you for sharing such interesting information about pricing patterns and pricing kits. Great stuff!!!

Back in the 1990s, Darleen O'Steen of Needle's Prayse was selling a limited-edition kit for an historically-inspired silk band sampler in pinks and blues for about $425. A huge amount at the time. More than our monthly mortgage payment. For years I saved the advertisement from the 1991 Summer "Just Cross-Stitch" magazine. I still have it in fact. After years of ogling the ad with yearning I finally wrote to the company in NC. Alas, they had sold out of the kits years before. I still occasionally look for it on ebay or etsy. Just in case. Love your channel, guys! Your videos are so much fun! Thank you so much for posting them!

Another fab video! I have two kits that have been crazy expensive and I haven’t started either of them 😅 One is a Gecko Rouge kit Fright Night that was around £230 (been sat in my stash for over 2 years) and the other is Chatelaine Swan Lake that cost me £300 and has been sat in my stash since September last year. The more expensive they are, I find the more pressure there is to not mess them up. I will stitch them one day! I would absolutely buy some of the Disney ones x

I worked on it for 5 years and I can’t honestly say what the entire thing cost but the framing was very expensive because it is a VERY large piece. It did win a blue ribbon.

I have number 23 on your list. Not looking at the box right now, but when I paid for it, at that time in 2007, I knew I had to have it. 16 years later and not one stitch. Tastes and eyesights change. I find I don't enjoy stitching on linen, so changing out the fabric pieces for overdyed 16 ct aida; so far I have 8 of the colors; just need another 9 more. The original (which I have) had only 16 colors; the new color that makes it 17 colors is that mustard color. The book that has the motifs I do not have and want to get; never came with the set. The set has a fold out sheet that has the motifs on it. And I don't recall if there are the same number of motif types, though it has the same amount of squares. So I am essentially rekitting the kit - I will use the threads that came with it. I will also repurpose the linen squares for other things, like finishing smalls or someting of that nature. The kit also came with 9 meters of ribbon binding; you got to choose which color you wanted. I bought it because I loved French things, and first saw Maison Sajou products on the French Needle website. I purchased it directly from Maison Sajou at that time. I think I paid over $200.00 for it. It made it the most expensive item I ever owned that I purchased for myself; let alone for cross stitch pleasure. I've not regretted it. Nowadays, I see kits for various samplers. If I am in love, I will pounce on it. And I think often of HATS boxes. I almost got the WOW box last year on the day of release. I almost got it, except my internet decided to say there was a syntax error, and I couldn't purchase it. At the time too, I needed new tires. Tires vs WOW. I think you know what won. This year, I plan on being more prepared to pounce on another box should Nicola come out with one (and if it has samplers that are loves, which it probably will). Thank you for a lovely journey of most expensive kits... my jaw dropped at number one... NO WAY!! LOL Even if I won the lottery, I couldn't see the justification for it. But that's just me. I did however love the Soul of the Rose; but would rather buy a print of it and frame it. :D Hugs and Love, Jennifer

Another fun video! I don’t know how many times I passed on the Disney/Kinkade kits at Hobby Lobby. I guess I never saw them on clearance because I basically buy everything on some kind of sale. FYI Stephanie my Mirabilia Lady of the Flag kit was sold as a kit from Mirabilia. Originally sold at Hobby Lobby for $51.15. I bought it new sealed at Hobby Lobby on clearance for $10.23. Cover photo states kit includes instructions, graph, 32-count fabric, floss, beads and needle. I haven’t done research on it but I have seen where some people had kitted it up themselves to sell. This was as much fun as the charts video. I love the Disney kits, but not at the prices they're currently selling for. I have two in my stash and I almost wish I didn't love them so much or I'd list them for sale lol. I've purchased several Chatelaine kits from European Cross Stitch; they used to sell full kits with fabric as well. I priced out the materials if I purchased them on my own and found that the price of the kit wasn't that much more. Additionally, I wouldn't have been able to get all of the fibers from the same place, so there would have been multiple shipping fees and some of the beads and crystals can be very hard to source or find pictures of to hunt down alternatives. These kits were a splurge, to be sure (and I bought them one at a time!), but the convenience of getting all of my materials at once with a single shipping charge was worth it to me. (And they arrived beautifully packaged so it felt like opening a present!) I like that they break the materials down into different categories for purchase; I do have a couple that I chose not to purchase the NPI silks for as those threads are solid colored and DMC alternatives were provided which are definitely less expensive. I've also found that the Chatelaine website has great resources including the materials lists for each design so that you can look at it and evaluate whether you want to substitute out a specialty fiber. For example. the Scotland Mandala calls for Caron Waterlillies in the color Celadon.. 11 inches of the 12 strand silk are used for stitching which comes to 0.05% of the skein. A DMC alternative of 3348 is listed. If I was sourcing my own materials, I might seriously consider using the DMC alternative when you look at the cost difference between the two fibers. Also, not all of the designs call for so many expensive threads. Martina listened when people said that they loved the designs but felt the kitting costs could be prohibitive, and backed off on the number of silks and such in some of her designs. I thought this information might help someone who is in the process of deciding to jump into the world of Chatelaine! 🪡👠

For people who think a full coverage kit is much too much should realize that many people spend that on multiple small kits, even in a months time. Sometimes the amount flosstubers buy is that much I’m sure. And you can choose to do many small things that are done quickly, or one (or several) large things that take much longer. I had no idea that I should’ve researched them first. I have 4 Thomas Kincaid Disney kits. The first one I bought at Epoc in Florida. The other three I got for $30 each years ago. Did not realize that they are worth so much. I do have the Winnie the Pooh one, have no intention of letting it go. I wonder if some of the value is that Thomas Kincaid has passed.

You have the Winnie the Pooh?! Definitely hang on to that one. The artwork of Thomas Kincaid is just gorgeous ❤

The disney winnie the pooh I've seen for $899 on the disney site, and 1k on ebay. I have the paper pattern, but not the kit. The most expensive kit I currently own is the Disney Tinkerbell Kit at $84

🐤 Could not find a rubber duck icon.. was interesting that the high price are full coverage Bucella or Disney, which I would not want to stitch. So what are the most expensive kits from stores? I see the Blackbird kits with the wood trays, fabric and threads in UK for £150.00 . There used to be an Xmas tree design where you 'hung' treasure charms on it which cost over £100 too.
@CrossStitchtheGlobe7 ай бұрын
a lot of those types of kits dont seem to come up for sale much. maybe because there weren't many made to begin with? the just nan and brenda gervais kits are the most comparable. those kits would be very interesting to see prices for as resale!

I got a Gecko Rouge kit once and while I'm happy with it, I much rather have been able to kit it up myself. Unfortunately it wasn't able to get just in pattern until recently. It was an ADHD impulse buy and while I work on it, I should have waited. I would have saved like 200 dollars...

You missed several more expensive Chatelaine kits. White Nights in St Petersburg is 498 without chart, fabric or any DMC. The most expensive kit, however, is the Rainforest Quilt kit at 583. It it worth it. To me yes because they are spectacular, take ages and stretch your skills. The high cost is because these are all silk kits. You can swap out the silk for DMC and it costs a fraction and doesn't look a huge amount different. I have 5 finished and 5 WIPs

I’m wondering why people are buying kits only to buy new thread? Was there a problem with the quality of the thread included in the kits?
@CrossStitchtheGlobe5 ай бұрын
Some of the kits come with threads that aren't separated so people choose to just use DMC they have instead of sorting them. Sometimes the older threads don't look as vibrant. Allison has a kit where the floss breaks really easily. It just depends on the original kit quality. -Stephanie

I don't believe the counted thread is the same as cross stitch. I ordered a kit but it is a painted canvas, like needlepoint. It's adorable, but the charted doesn't match the colors on the canvas...so the difficulty is higher than expected!

Curious if anyone in the comments has an answer about the Bucilla honorable mention - mostly because one of my clearance buys from years ago that I just pulled out is a Bucilla and I just can’t imagine a Bucilla going for that much, so I’m assuming it has to be about the pattern specifically?
@CrossStitchtheGlobe7 ай бұрын
I think it's definitely about the specific patterns but I want to know all the stories about each one!
@RedPandaHomebody7 ай бұрын
Yes! I want to know the story! I didn’t think to check on my Bucilla online after your most expensive patterns video, but my two Lavender and Lace kits are still out there, maybe even still getting put out as kits? It was hard to tell. (My clearance price was still better than they still are, but they hadn’t gone crazy in price.) But I’m still always going to be much happier about scoring a great deal than a specific dream stitch. I think. (I hope?) 😂😂😂

Quite often it's about the scene and the way the shading is done to depict light and shadow. This is what makes Bucilla and Dimensions really popular, especially in the European market which sort of drove the initial "craze."
