I know there's a fair amount of "this would be great if they did that on an episode Sunny" moments. But Rob thinking he can not succumb to being chloroformed is one of the most Mac things he's said so far, and really would be great if they did that on an episode of Sunny.

Chloroforming actually doesn't work, though, it's a Hollywood thing. You'd need a continuous stream of the liquid to knock someone out, it's entirely inefficient.
@Lusterredux

It's more likely that someone will pass out from having a dense cloth that's hard to breath through covering their mouth than the chloroform itself. Chloroform as it's used in movies is complete Hollywood BS. So unless an anesthesiologist drops by and administers it correctly, Rob is absolutely correct.

glen talking about paralyzing someone in quicksand reminds me of my favorite blooper. during mac day, mac says something like "did i complain when dennis had us tying slipknots until our fingers bled? no, because it was his day." and dennis says "those were shoddy knots btw, you guys almost ruined everything. i sorted it out though." it was such a great way to show how crazy he is, while being vague enough to let our minds wander

Although in this instance his diabolical plan is actually rather benign when you realize that it’s physically impossible for a person to sink more than a few inches in quicksand, which means his intended victim in this case will just end up getting to take a nice little nap on what I’d imagine might feel similar to a waterbed.

One part of the subtext of the podcast that really makes me appreciate the boys is just how hard they've worked on the show. The writing, the acting, the producing, the editing. They're so close to the material that they can't see it like we do. As a fan, I rarely agree with their self-criticism (I thought the cartoony stuff was and is still funny), but I totally appreciate why they feel the way they do...and it's interesting to hear
@hermionexxx
@hermionexxx 2 жыл бұрын
Totally agree. It seems this extends to the podcast as well, that they're concerned with making sure it's as good as possible almost to the point of being too hard on themselves. I knew they must have high standards for the show just based on how great it is but the podcast has been eye opening as to how high! I appreciate the show all the more seeing how much hard work and care they put into it.

I do think it's a bit strange to hear them criticize the cartoony elements when the show is now the most cartoonish it's ever been. I kind of miss the older more realistic episodes and that seems to align with their own opinions as well.

Sure, I may have questioned if some were true for about 5 minutes, but once I reflected a bit on them I knew they made no sense and/or had no evidence besides hearsay to back them up. (Since my mid teens, when I developed my critical thinking skills to a more mature/sophisticated level, I've been a committed skeptic who knows that all sorts of things the hoi polloi believe, even widely or that are considered "respectable" beliefs, are pure bs, nonsense, or at most have no good reason or evidence to believe them and plenty of reason/evidence against their reality). Cursed chain letters, the hookman, if you pee in pools the water changes color, shaving hair makes it grow back thicker, the scratching against the dorm room door during the holidays of a girl who had her throat slit, gum stays in your body forever (won't digest), Mr. Rogers was a Marine/had a tatoo, Coke dissolves your teeth, birds that eat wedding rice explode, several local myths, and the most idiotic: we only use 10% of our brains. I can imagine an episode opening with the guys geeking out about an 80’s action movie they just finished watching and Charlie saying something along the lines of: “They always get blown to safety! I want that, dude. I want to get blown!” And Dennis replying, “Look if anyone’s getting blown it’s gonna be me.” Just for Mac to object, “Why do you get to be blown? I should be the one getting blown! I’m the most badass out of all of us!” This leads them to a day of mishaps and mayhem after they are inspired to reenact a number of badass scenes from 80’s films. Only to discover how painful or difficult the scenes play out in real life. The sure fire episode could play the intro after revealing the title: *The* *Gang* *Gets* *Blown*

Charlie's story about his roommate busting in the door is something that happened to me as well. My roommate at the time came home drunk and forgot his keys, so instead of calling myself or one of our other 2 roommates to let him in, he proceeds to kick the door about 7-8 times until the handle breaks and the door flies open and puts a dent in the wall. Now, he CLAIMS that he shoulder checked it once and it "popped open" but he was 5'8 and 165lbs soaking wet and the multiple foot prints on the door would suggest otherwise.

Rob is a total sweetheart. Treating Megan to "one of the coolest things" of her life and spending the day watching/supporting his friend's work is so precious. Glen is obviously not Dennis but he does kinda have golden god energy. Charlie is casually a creative genius; has readily available compelling comments and insight regarding a variety of art/creative-related topics. Megan is crushing it at one of the coolest jobs. Her toast from the browning out episode was endearing. Her explanation why she looks up to Kaitlin Olson was perfectly said and so relatable. Thanks for sharing this project/podcast/your lives.

I really like the line where Dennis says “no” and “stop” don’t work bc this was definitely an era of TV that really normalized lying and tricking women into sex. Taking it a step further with Dennis somehow feels more realistic. Guys that deliberately manipulate women don’t suddenly become decent once the word “no” is uttered.

One of my favorite things to do on rewatches is to try and pick the moments/episodes that are the biggest transition points for each character. Like those moments that are the biggest in making them the characters that we know in season 15. This episode for sure is Dennis' episode, for all the reasons they talk about. For Frank, I have when he finds out he isn't their dad. Both the scene in the restaurant and the now infamous gun scene feel like the pivot for him. For Mac, I have "Mac is a serial killer". Insecure, oblivious, confused/fighting his sexuality. Dee is a bit tough, but I say "The Gang Sells Out". She's just terrible and self-centered at the new job. And she has what she thinks are brilliant schemes that aren't actually working. "I just want you to turn a blind eye while I rob this place stupid". Charlie is extremely difficult because he's pretty much been Charlie the whole time. But I'll go with "The Gang Finds a Dumpster Baby". That episode really establishes a lot of Charlie and Frank's lifestyle choices.
