Hi, Mike! Have you ever heard of the Christmas album “Twisted Christmas”? On it is a funny song called “There’s Something Stuck Up In The Chimney” sung in a child voice about “Santa” being stuck in the chimney, and the dog barking “up the chimney flue”. Never knew that a person really DID get stuck in the chimney and dying there! Mike, I’m so glad that you’re back with list 25, it was never the same without you! 😊

Some years ago in England people living in a row of old terraced houses (a street where all the houses are attached) heard faint noises from the roof space. When someone eventually checked their space they found people sleeping up there. They were gaining access to the roof through one of the houses where the owner was charging them rent.

Buried Alive: It used to be a somewhat common phenomenon, notably in the 1800's and early 1900's. There were coffins for sale with snorkels to feed air to a person buried alive; some coffins had signal devices to alert attendants. It's not yet over. The custom of the Wake is from having someone stay up with the body all night, in case it woke up. Just a few years ago, an autopsy lab technician was frightened half to death by the movement of a fresh corpse in the cooler, in Rocky Mount, N.C. The person had been medically pronounced dead, but wasn't. You hear of this from time to time, more often in places that have coroners rather than forensic pathologists; forensic pathologists are specialty doctors, but coroners are often lay people whose talent was in getting elected. Oh, and some recent cadavers actually CAN move or make noises as an artifact of decomposition. As a law enforcement officer, I worked on a murder case in which the body was in his own basement---but the head wasn't. A search ensued of the county landfill, a river bridge, and a few other sites. THREE HEADS were found, BUT NONE OF THEM FIT!! I never heard if the searched-for head was found, or the bodies of the found three heads. The Camel: Supposedly a left over from the 1850's US Army experiment in using camels for desert warfare. The Civil War started, so the experiment ended and the camels were turned loose. The movie HAWMPS! was a comedic take on this, starring James Hampton, Slim Pickens, Jack Elam, etc. It was also the basis of one show on Death Valley Days, a TV anthology that once featured Ronald Reagan as its host.

As someone who lived Columbia, and still live roughly in the area, we *ALL* know the story of Janett Christman. Her story is a major focus for for local history, and paranormal investigators. Actually anyone with an interest the paranormal. The other story that has become a local urban legend, is the story of Molly Crenshaw. It’s just about a rite of passage to spend a full night alone searching for at least one piece of her. If that part of the legend is to be believed.

I have heard of other real cases of dead bodies in chimneys, one was a youth who went missing never to be seen until many years later when his remains were found in the chimney of a derelict cottage. It was the belief that being a lad of good nature seeking shelter on bad weather night he was stranded and found the empty cottage but did not want to do damage to gain entry so tried to go down the chimney and got stuck. I think it was in the U.K! Also Joshua Vernon Maddux In 2015, the remains of Joshua Vernon Maddux, an 18-year-old who had been missing since 2008, were found in the chimney of an abandoned cabin in Woodland Park, Colorado:

My mother is from Perth, Western Australia. There was an urban legend about the feet tickler. He would tickle people's feet. And run out of the house giggling. This was 1960's to 1970's. But it was a mentally disabled man and he never hurt anyone. I can't any information about it. I guess because he didn't harm anyone. My mother grew up in Midland. So not sure if it was just that area or across Perth.
