I used to live outside of Aachen (where you started) and traveled regularly to Cologne/Koln. If you pause at @30:31 you'll see Autobahn 4, which runs without a speed limit for about two miles next to the ICE tracks. There are few things more amazing than clipping along at 130mph/210kph on the Autobahn and then getting passed up by an ICE train doing 250.

Jeff, some funzies to turn on are PZB, LZB, Sifa, and AFB. PZB and LZB are very useful for high-speed running, and read 14km ahead of you and tell you about red signals, and speed restrictions so you can slow down form 250 km/h. Sifa is a safety system to make sure you are 1) there and 2) alive and alert. AFB is a speed restrictor and will essentially drive the train for you. To turn it on fully (no restrictions), press 9 and 6 on the screen in-game (left display). Use R and F to control the setting of the speed limit of your train. AFB works with PZB and LZB to follow a braking curve to slow down or stop smoothly, and will use the train brake to stop if you tell it to. Some warnings about PZB and LZB: If you turn them on in the wrong spot, your train will activate the emergency brakes and you must turn them and Sifa off (if it wasn't already) to move again. With Sifa, if you don't acnowledge the warning (Q), the emergency brakes will come on. On AFB, on non-PZB/LZB territory it WILL NOT slow down for you since it doesn't have the data to tell it to.
@turnipgaming9747 Жыл бұрын
Slight correction, if Sifa isn't acknowledged its an full service application, if PZB is Tripped it's an Emergency Stop application and the Cab computer will say Zwangsbremsung Zugbeeinflussung repeatedly until you acknowledge the PZB Trip. LZB is also an Emergency Stop application if you don't acknowledge the LZB Endé it will sound the LZB alarm repeatedly until you acknowledge it. For you acknowledge PZB or LZB in an Emergency Stop application the Train has to come to a complete stop for it to be acknowledged.

We have a variant of this train here in Russia going between Moscow and Saint Petersburg, and a couple of other places. It's called Sapsan here. The difference is that they are adopted for the wider track, have better insulation, and the trains are longer - in fact, the worlds longest high speed train (20 cars, 500 meters long) is a Sapsan currently running between Moscow and Saint-Petersburg. I frequently use this train, and even though it's max speed is 250 kmh on this track it's still amazing. It goes these 700 km in a little under 4 hours, and it's actually faster than going by plane considering you go from and arrive to the city centre and don't have to go through all the security stuff. And considering trains in Russia are running on time schedule to the minute you can get to the train station 10 minutes before departure instead of a few hours. And yeah, no matter how many times I go on this train, it's an amazing experience every time.

My commuting route actually takes me along this route (from Cologne Hbf to Aachen Rothe Erde). Generally I'm impressed by this route (the station buildings are accurate), and for a simulator this stretch of track is a good choice, featuring lots of International freight (the Thameslink trains were shipped over this route, and were a rather unusual sight for months) as well as ICE, national IC and 2 different Regional Express lines (with different rolling stock), and S-Bahn services (normally to Düren, in the early morning and after midnight all the way to Aachen). There is also a regional diesel line that runs from Düren, splitting into a circular line around Aachen at Stolberg (wasn't included though). Unfortunately there are several small and some larger issues, the station underpass at Cologne looks absolutely nothing like the original, RE trains don't stop at Eilendorf and platforms 43 and 44 at Stolberg don't have a catenary (they're for diesel services only), yet a Talent 2 is parked there. Some more recognizable buildings like the Aachen Arkaden at Rothe Erde are represented by a single block. And whilst the tunnel lighting is nice, they aren't lit at all IRL (and also have a different profile). My biggest issue with this route however is the fact that the catenary outside of the two track parts is completely inaccurate. From Ehrenfeld to Langerwehe, as well as at Eschweiler the catenary IRL is exclusively made of single masts, being a recently refurbished high speed line. The setup of gantries in the game allows a speed of only 160kph. Add to that the fact that the catenary at Cologne central station is also inaccurate, even though all necessary assets are in the game, it does look like a developer simply couldn't be bothered. If editing catenaries is similar to that of the original Train Simulator, making that accurate would incur less than a day of additional work. Edit: though unlikely, an extension of this route to Frankfurt would be nice. That would add 45 minutes of ICE running at max speed over some insane grades of up to 4%, the section is quite long at over 200 kilometres. There'd be some spectacular views and a roller coaster feel at 300 kph (320 if the train is late).
@JessedeGrootTV4 жыл бұрын
The ICE 3M is a fantastic train. Hbf stands for hauptbahnhof in English that is central station. This train has a cruise control, it’s called “AFB” and you can turn it on by clicking on the left display. Also you choose the destination boards from the train. On the high speed tracks, this is using a safety system called “LZB”. If you turn that on with AFB, the train will brake and accelerate automatically. When LZB is going to stop, you will a yellow light in the cab with “Ende”. Then you need to hold the befehl button on your desk, what’s on the left side. When you don’t driving on the high speed line, you are using the safety system called “PZB”. That system is difficult. When you see a signal with a green and yellow light you are required to hold the “wachsam” button and then the PZB light are starting flashing and moving from left to the right. Speed changes from 90 km/h and lower you are required to hold the wachsam button. If you don’t do that, you will get a emergency brake. A LZB Ende signal needs to accepted within 10 seconds.
@ember_shep81814 жыл бұрын
Hey Jeff, for the cruise control, you need to go to the Left Computer Display, hit the 9 key, then hit the 6 key to enable AFB (cruise control basically) then use the lever to the left of the throttle to set speed. Basically set the afb, and slam throttle to max, and the train drives itself. It's even cooler with LZB enabled. But that's something Alex needs to explain lol. Great video tho! Such a beautiful train. And fun to drive.

In some places (including the US), a train does not need to blow the horn before a crossing if it has 4 gates, instead of the typical 2 gates like we have in the US. This is usually because that particular city wants to obtain "quiet zone" status. My hometown is trying to accomplish this status since about 14 freight trains and 2 Amtrak trains pass through daily, six of them during the night.

The ICE 17 Service is a real service... From Brussels-Midi via Liège (both in Belgium), Aachen and Cologne (Köln), Bonn, Frankfurt on the Main (airport) to Frankfurt on the Main (main station). DB offers this service as a connection to and for the Eurostar Services from Brussels-Midi (Eurostar) to London St. Pancras International in the UK... The section of the track connects the stations of Aachen and Cologne. The ICEs only stop in this track section at Aachen and Köln (Cologne). The track is shared with Talent 2 by Bombardier and Desiro HC by Siemens operated emus, which are stopping at those stops. Jeff, do you know, IRL, what extra track and safety considerations or equipment the high-speed rail trains require to inhibit or minimize derailment accidents, etc.? I figured there have to be some special design elements to help prevent accidents, given the high speed operations involved. I did read the safety of most high speed rails are due to the ballast-less design, no grade crossings, all elevated designs, and wide turning allotments, and the fact that the lines are designed to be "monotonous" with no difficult sections of the journey, etc. There have been a few high speed rail accidents in Asia and elsewhere, but not many. There's on article I found that makes a big deal that most of these train lines lack seatbelts, which is kind of stupid.

If only the US had high speed rail trains. You'd think we would've had a coast to coast bullet train by now.
@IPAWS20184 жыл бұрын
Thing is we don't have the funds to allocate to such a project. Note that everywhere else that has nationwide networks of HSR have one advantage over us: they are much smaller, therefore they don't have to put down as much rail, and as such don't have to spend as much.
@banksrail4 жыл бұрын
Phoenix • Coast to Coast would be pretty impractical but yeah we should have at least a train faster than 160mph.
@IPAWS20184 жыл бұрын
@@banksrail we might here in a hot second, as the Avelia Liberty trainsets are in testing.

IPAWS2018 the new train sets reach 220mph without tilting which is great but not on our current infrastructure 😭. We’re still trying to replace century-year-old bridges.

@@IPAWS2018 Imagine you could ride on DB (if you book in advance at least 2 weeks before the journey for arround 17,90€ one trip, regardless of how far you went...) Made serval journeys in the last years with serval ICE sets... (from old fashioned ICE1,2,3,T to the current 3M for the multielectrical system services between the SNCB (Belgian), SNCF (French) networks and the modern ICE 4 sets and modernised ICE3). I must say travelling in 2nd class I liked the old sets a little better. And if you take set reservations with a 4 person seating, I absolutely can't recommend the window side on the 3M in standard class (as long as you have knees...), due to how the desk is built...

You should try Intelligent Standby List Cleaner. Those look to be memory-related stutters. There's a cache bug in windows that continues to populate and doesn't clear itself even when you run out of RAM.

Take anything that DTG with a grain of salt. Their management consists of pathological liars. We all want them to succeed in giving us a decent train simulator, but it's a shame they don't have a true competitor or listen to their community. This is an upgrade, nothing more, hopefully they actually build on some routes and change their business model because the game is really nice, for the content they do give us

Derail Valley. That's an awesome simulator... Although not based on real engines.
