Recently I was able to build an $80 i7 2600 dell optiplex, with 8GB of ram, 240GB SSD w/OS, and a $100 gtx 1060. Add in a mechanical drive and/or +8GB of ram and you are pretty close to a full fledges gaming PC under $250. But it was not when I wanted it, it was more of a situation where I saw the deal and decided to make Christmas presents for my younger relatives.

I got a 2006 Mac Pro years ago and put Windows on it pretty easily. I had similar problems to the ones you described, so I put Linux on the machine instead. When I couldn't get that to work and OS X was being a pain (as it often is), I just booted into Linux from the CD I made and fully erased the HDD, then I was able to boot into the Windows installer on a USB because no other bootable media was in the device. A couple hours later, I had Windows installed and I got drivers for all but two pieces of hardware (that I still can't identify because Apple evidently doesn't want to share). Now the only thing is, it won't go back to OS X now that I'm trying to get rid of it.

I've been there, I couldn't install windows 10 on my old Mac (2009 MacBook) because it was unsupported. I tried using Xcode and Atom to change the code so that it was supported and but I was still having some problems in bootcamp. I tried doing the bootcamp partition manually and installing windows via a usb copy and it worked but then when I wanted to boot again into windows it would crash because the partition I did manually was missing some key things for Windows (that's why you need to use bootcamp). Finally I tried downloading windows 7 via bootcamp (so it partitioned my drive correctly) and from Windows 7 I downloaded windows 10 and it works like a charm. Good luck

I've flipped many, many Mac Pros. 2006's are the most difficult to deal with. I've found if you want to run Windows 10, your best bet is to use a 2008 or newer (or 2007 flashed 3,1). They run it pretty flawlessly. I would however recommend a 2009-2012 x58 based Mac Pro if you plan on running any games.

Windows installer changed the BCD database on your NVME and other PC. You just need to fix the BCD entries for those windows using the recovery console command line using bcdboot c:\Windows /s b: /f ALL Do not have any other disks connected to the system besides the windows boot disk and the disk with windows installed on it during this process. It did this because the installer used the NVME for booting and the other drive for windows, this unfortunately links the two disk together and they will not work separately unless corrected. The NVME needs it's BCD registry entries for the UUID of the disk for the windows location to be corrected. BCD is just a tiny windows registry with boot disk and windows location(s) data, and can actually be mounted in regedit but you will not be able to modify the entries this way. The new windows install destination disk needs a new boot record and BCD to be created on it before it can boot. Here is a full walkthrough for such issues on MS Windows since Vista www.disk-image.com/faq-diskimage-windows8.htm
