I just watched your latest video of you cutting the concrete and removing the 5 footings that you just had installed because they weren't as strong as you liked and they had settled over time because the snow load was far greater than you anticipated. The video showed how much work went into removing them and careful not to ruin the existing slab. Hindsight is such a wonderful thing

We had those grass seeds shaped like arrowheads around my house growing up in Calif. It also gets in their noses and ears, you can tell when they start shaking their heads and sneezing a lot for no reason. The patio pad looks great. I could totally see what cedar was describing with the flower beds. Honeysuckle would be nice climbing the posts, but you're going to have to deal with bee stings when the grandkids come along. You might consider putting in a fixed firepit too. it's going to look great once the grass grows in, and the area where the septic is will be a nice football/soccer field.

In eastern Washington, I used to live by a new devlopment (developing).. It's very hot and dry in the summer out there, so they would set up sprinklers to water the concrete so it wouldn't dry too fast on the outside and still stay wet on the inside, and crack the shell. I also think they should have had the whole family put hand prints in the concrete!

Its your home and ya should do what you want. But ied suggest adding some gutters with micro mesh gutter guards, and maybe some rain catch barrels to water plants. the big thing is gutters so you can protect your roof and siding.and the guards just help with cleaning.

I sure hope that bit of fencing holds well. I'd hate to see that relatively thin slab crack. I too like the idea of porch swings. There's no better place to sit with the family and enjoy an ice cold glass of tea or lemonade.
@micahwatson90176 жыл бұрын
That is one nice porch and will probably be the most used place in the whole house! Glad the pup is doing well. Just for future reference, your concrete batch plant can put different types of additives to the mix for different purposes. Ex. - a plasticizer will allow the mud to flow easier and a retarder will slow down the set time. I use a retarder when pouring in really hot weather (90+), a very large pour with lots of finishing details, or if the job is really far from the batch plant, like your place. Hope that helps for future pours.
@justingreen80066 жыл бұрын

Might would just have to keep Cedar close during the time the seeds and burrs are a problem. We have our yard around our place fenced so I can keep the dogs from roaming. During the time that ticks, briars, burrs, etc, are at their worst, we stay out of the woods and fields, and I keep them with us in the areas around our home, barns and other buildings. It works so much better.
@BelindaTN6 жыл бұрын
Something else I might add. A dogs fur is a protection for their skin. When you shave them, you need to protect the skin for them. From sun and things that scrape them, bugs that attack them, etc. Another way to help them with the seeds and burs and ticks that get in their coat, is to brush them as soon as you come back from areas where they pick them up. I have brushed ticks and burs out before they even reach the skin.
