I love the way they are writing this storyline. I'm so glad that Doug's admission is "I think I'm gay." and not "I think I'm in love with Ste." It's a cheap way out when you make it about being attracted to one person. It's nice that they are really making this a life changing situation for Doug, not just a soapy romance.

it's not cheap but useful. it's as simplistic as any word that you use to describe yourself. when you say you're 'quiet' does that say everything there is to know about yourself? of course not but, again, it's useful.

What is happening between Doug and Ste reminds me a lot of Christian and Olli from 'Verbotene Liebe'. Christian had never been attracted to a man until he met Olli. Eventually he fell in love with Olli and fought the attraction until he couldn't fight it any longer. They are still together four years later, but when they broke up for a while, Olli turned to another man while Christian turned to a woman. Clearly a case, like Doug and Ste, of falling in love with a person, not a gender.

It's got to be terrifying...To know yourself for your whole life and live your life a certain way, then have this THING, this HUGE THING happen & have it throw everything you thought you knew about yourself into question. Doug says "I think I'm gay. And I don't know what to do and I'm scared." It'd be different if he'd had feelings even remotely like these before, but he hasn't. So yeah. Feeling what he does about Ste has thrown him for a loop. I'm okay w/ this. Wating to ssee how it plays out.

I love Ste hair now, no more black, I love the front growing out :3 also I have to say, I find it interesting how ppl have a certain 'idea' how gays are suppose to come out. like its always a big drama show. Hollyoaks pace is always either really quick or dragged out, but end of the day its a soap so it will be abit surreal with certain things, you just cant look at things black or white.

I understand the argument "falling in love with the person, not the gender" but if you are attracted to both sexes that is bisexual, an overlooked, misunderstood concept in our society, if it got some attention by being labeled that way, people would understand it more, juat because you are attracted to the same sex deosn't mean you are gay, we can aspire to loving someone without a "label" but I don't think society is anywhere near to accepting that, but the bisexuality is a stepping stone

i think its cheap labeling people gay/bi/straight. it is way too simplistic to describe a person's sexual interests with one word. Most of us may subscribe to and identify with this classification system, but there are people that have fallen in love with a PERSON and not an idea or the person's sexuality. Hollyoaks in fact has a pretty great storyline about a 'straight' guy falling in love with a 'gay' guy (craig and john paul :P)

I also think that for some reason series' writing department understimates the power of the concept, & how widely they could play with it in a fictional world, the possibility would be HUGE to use it, ya know...then why not? I still think (linking to your talk) that they're scared people won't understand, or that won't be so emotional taken by the idea (in fact over this period, they're kicking out Jodie, after having just "toyed" with her role, nothing serious...x me it's a mistake)

Yes it's nice to see indeed! but overall I guess, since it's a fictional story, that the 1st opinion should be given to it afterall: I mean, I've read how Kieron jumped on the defensive about this plot, telling fans how they should feel etc (based on his own experience), & it's ok of course having a double meaning to it, but perhaps the focus should stay more on the show...at least my little POV ;-) Ciao*

about the 'honest' point..... although I've absolutely fallen in love with his character, Doug isn't really honest, seeing as he has a lot of dishonest skeletons in his closet *no pun intended*, like drugdealing....and there is this little fact of secretly lending money from Brendan to open the deli, the one person Ste doesn't want to have any connections with....

I agree with you .I know sexuality isn't black or white but for me people complcate what is simple.you are gay, straight or bi. I don't buy the thing doug falls in love with a person that just happened to be male.sometimes straight people fall in love just once. I mean if you are straight you don't love all the opposite sex people so if you are bi it's the same.the fact he just love one man(for now) doesn't mean he isn't be and that we have to find unrealistic no derfinition for his inclination.

I disagree, I think that one can be gay, straight or bi. what is wrong with being bi? it doesn't matter if you fall in love just once with another male. if you do, you are bisexual exactly like plenty of straight people that fall in love just once in their entire life. they are straight. they don't try to justify their love refusing what they are. with doug is the same. in an episode he was checking ste's arse sex is involved it's not a platonic feeling so he is definetly bi as he loved bex too

Why? l think it is a really good story line...you could say the same thing about Ste's coming out too...l just don't get why some people don't like it...and for me when l first saw Doug l thought he was going to be gay...So l'm just really happy about it...

Frankly I don't care about Doug+CO, the plot is banal, 1 could already imagine how the story will play out, also these 2 roles put together are dull, a little like Amy+her lovers (& no, actually I don't bother if B will be thrown in the middle of it, I'm talking of Stug on their own feet). PS_true that Stug resambles Chrolli, BUT the former duo never changed much the characterization, as this new 1(they weren't like Ste & Doug, both deeply changed over time)

I agree BTW: with Bex (aired x Xmas, with Doug's sexuality decided since August..I guess that's why also Stendan romance lasted ONLY 1damn ep!!)like with other SLs, they've been simply superficial, it's ages that HO isn't on its top form x me.

Well, some may fall in love with a person, but, sorry-it either leads to sexual attraction or not. And if id does, You suddenly :) become LGBT or questioning ? Maybe you've had different experiences, but I've never know a totally straight guy to fall in love with a totally gay guy- that leads to sex.. It leads to Bromance.

This is more realistic than most would know. A large portion of men don't "know" they are gay until after their wives die and they meet another guy (with a dead wife), and they fall IN-LOVE for the first time. They loved their wives.... but. Now in comparison they KNOW this is defferent.

Well... my 2 cents. I don't really believe there is a "real" thing called bi. Bi is the road some travel before they reach gay home. It took me so many years, and girlfriends, and wives, and kids.... But I made it home. Most of us want to be "safe". To many, safe can feel like love. I know many men with women that are ... safe. And they love the women. But at some point they fall IN-LOVE with a man. For some it happens at 15... for others... 67. Doug seems IN-LOVE. Now he KNOWS!
