The desert that Elphaba runs up to the edge of in “The Wizard and I” is the deadly desert. In the Oz books and return to oz movie it is a desert that turns you to sand if you touch it.

Fiyero’s costume seems to be a nod to his book counterpart. In the book, he has ochre-colored skin with blue markings. It could be coincidence, but I can also see why they might try and lean into that.

@@vocal.genius Just watched it online with my PC and 55 inch tv. Except for the last 20 or so minutes, this has to be the worst musical movie ever produced in my 75 years of existence. All that damn awful music, singing (just terrible screeching), and dancing could drive anybody up a wall. I hope they eliminated any singing and dancing in Part 2, and made it dark and all action. Oz, the Great and Powerful 2013 movie blows this out of the water for entertainment. Criticizing this film for being political when the original Wicked novel, musical, and even the Wizard of Oz is intentionally political is an absurdly off-base take.

“Far away from the actual story line” What? It follows the plot of the Wicked musical, not Wizard of Oz, if that’s what you mean. And it did it perfectly. And Part 1 is meant to be a prequel to the events of Wizard of Oz…
