Blower surge is caused by the supercharger feeding excess air into the engine, and the engine responds by leaning out the air fuel mixture. When the engine revs down, the blower isn’t turning as much air, which makes it richer, making it surge again.
@karlk68606 жыл бұрын
What makes you guys so sure this boats got any carbs at all? Blower surge is not really an accurate term either, yes its a condition of rich/lean fuel but ti is caused by the fuel mixture not by the blower, and its a matter of how the engine is tuned be it injected or carburated

A 2013 video of a 1300hp Mercury racing boat in 480p resolution, REALLY? You can drop approx. 200K on this boat but you can't spring for decent HD camera. IMHO this boat deserves nothing less than 1080p, I mean 480p is practically an insult to this boats craftsmanship.

"Blower surge causes the motors to rev at idle." Well, poor tuning causes blower surge. The constant rich-lean-rich-lean is what's doing it. Depending on how over driven your blower is depends on how bad it'll do it. Most guys run the wrong power valve in a Holley with a roots charger. But that don't mean it ain't cool as hell!

Surge has nothing to do with cams. Its entirely in the carb tuning. You can lean out the idle and eliminate all surge due to the increased vacuum but it wont idle under load. So you richen it up which causes it to surge because you lose most of the vacuum, which it then surges because it wont pull fuel and its lean again on the high side. Basically a constant back and forth trying to compensate for no load. Takes a lot to turn 18+" big pitch cleavers at idle!

@AB-80X Жыл бұрын
Are they now? Odd. The last set of engines I built for a boat with 14-71's ran on pump fuel and had 10.6:1 compression. Things are not what they used to be in 1990.
@edwardthayer9386 Жыл бұрын
@@AB-80X that's low compression!🤦♂️
@AB-80X Жыл бұрын
@@edwardthayer9386 Do you know anything about building boat engines? 10.6:1 is high for a big blown engine on pump gas. Hell even Mercury Racing’s latest and greatest turbo engines are in the 8’s. Boat engines run with an insanely high cylinder pressure and are much, much more prone to detonation. And frankly, even in a light street car with a big blower on it, that compression is fairly high. Even an n/a big block rarely goes above 11 on pump gas. Many who build engines for boats will build them with a cr in the 7-8 range. I’m able to do 10.6 because the chambers have been shaped specifically for this in these heads, and it has taken some trial and error to get the cam just right. A brilliant combination, but not easy to build. Not sure what your background is in building roots blown big blocks, but if you have a recipe that will run at a higher compression on regular pump gas, I’m allways willing to learn.
