People tend to forget this 220 trophy was the fastest car in its segment around the nurburgring (b class hatches/superminis) for many many years with a time of 8:23. VW/Audi group tried to beat it with the awd 2.0T S1 but were still 20 seconds behind. BMW only surpassed it by putting the M135i (2.0T) engine in the tiny 2 seater track focused Mini JCW GP to make a quicker car in the segment. A modern competitor car like the i20n takes 8:34... so even by todays standards the 220 trophy is good.

The Clio had Oz Ultraleggera in 17 inch and Dunlop Direzzas with 215 width fitted. Thats easily 5-10 seconds compared to Standard street tires

Liked these when they came out. The design is clean, it still looks good today imo, had a DCT, is 4 door only which fine (not interested in 2 door hatches anyway, they're impractical). Lot of reviews said it's boring (see Fifth Gear's review where they broke this Clio's gearbox by doing a J-turn..... lol). It's supposed to be a grown up GT focused hot hatch. Something like the Mercedes A35/45 and VW Golf R is today.

If only they made a CLIO RS with the current mk.5 gen... The interior is amazing and the best in the B segment, along with a beautiful exterior. It would be a perfect cheap alternative to the Megane 4 RS.

If you understand cars you will realise when this came out it absolutely ruined all the competition. The car critics have never liked renault for some reason. I've had polo gti ford st Peugeot 308 and now this rs 270bhp and its the best hothatch I've ever had and people are starting to wake up with it especially the fact you don't see many of them. Mines wrapped in midnight purple.

For steering feel @AutoTopnl...open RS monitor press plus '+' button and choose 'power steering'. Choose the normal mode for sport and race. The sport power steering is too heavy and dull and is set on by default on sport/race mode. You will get the steering feel you are looking for- also makes the car a lot more playful and easier to slide.

I have a stock 2015 Trophy as a daily driver. Agree the steering terrible but it’s not too bad a car overall. Also, at 54,000km I’m told I need a new clutch, clutch forks…equivalent of about $USD 7000 incl labour and a 12 week wait for the clutch kit if we use Renault genuine parts or about 3-4 weeks for non-Renault parts from the UK. Not good. Im preferring to drive my 2014 Camaro z28 which is my weekend car and is rock solid!! Helps me forget about the $7000 of clutch work needed! If you’re buying one of these have an expert give the clutch and gearbox a once over. If it hesitates to change or sort of “splutters” a bit between gears stay away.

Nice mods man! Got a Clio RS aswell, phase 1 with Trophy engine (replaced). Recently placed ST-Suspension coilovers aswell and wanted to add the Maxton stuff aswell. The thing is that now I can still get over speedbumps with low speed. Do you have to go sideways over higher speedbumps now or is low speed fine and do you just occasianly hit speedbumps without breaking the splitter? And yes, like Max says, it is really really bumpy now, sometimes a pain in the ass but in corners ohh man, absolutely love how flat it stays.

brilliant car as a daily. I have a 2014 mk4 cup since new. 125000km on it currently. Drives brilliantly. I honestly torture the car, hitting the rev limiter nearly every drive (it comes up really fast because redline is only 6.5k rpm). The car is fun to drive, economical and pretty hard to lose control of if you have any kind of driving skill and don't cheap out on the tires (pilot sports or equivalent). Things I don't love about the car are: Limited rear space (I have a growing family), media system is functional but average at best, shift beep is annoying and can't be turned off (happy to be corrected on this if someone knows how), parts are quite expensive here in Australia and my roof paint is fading quite badly but this could just be because it's out in the sun permanently. I'm happy to answer any questions you have.

That depends what you want it for, as a daily driver the mk4 is better but for everything else I think the mk3 would give you more enjoyment even though its slower and harder to extract more power from.

The engine is very linear which is surprising for a turbo engine. I think it was Renault's intention because it caused a huge drama at the time to abandon the 2L naturally aspirated engine. I have the Megane IV GT it works pretty well but its very linear. But you have torque in low RPM too so its weird but its ok i love this car

In particular, the clutch assemblies and mechatronics units may be problematic, along with internal oil leaks in cars that weren't serviced strictly to manufacturer's requirements....I worked 5 years for Renault powertrain research and development
