Hey Mike your "little" firewood operations have really grown. Going back on all you videos 📸. Great to see how fast you've grown up. Started my "Ash Falls Milling and Lumber" business in Wisconsin about 2019. Slow growing but steady improvement. Love being my own boss.

Happy belated Birthday.You ever get some of the wood that when it splits it does split so violently that it will completely jump off the splitter? I did, and when it split it almost shattered my wrist, so after that I have learned to completely remove my hand from the log being split. I have learned that the trees that has died and shed the bark but still standing is the type to violently split. You can tell when it is that type of wood when the wedge starts I it will bog the engine really bad and pump goes into power stage then it will suddenly and violently split and go flying. By the way, I have 3 splitters, one is my first, purchased it from Sears years ago, it is a 10 ton, second was purchased from Tractor Supply which is a 20 ton, last one is a 47 ton capacity that is more or less a homebrew made splitter

Hi Mike! I am glad to get to see the BD 25 in action. It verified what I already knew. I am not sure where these splitters are assembled but my dad got one for us the other day. It took some pokes and jabs about his old 3 point splitter and getting him hooked on your channel but we convinced him. Thanks for the help by the way. Any way, the darn thing cycles opposite of the direction the handle is pushed. That is down right dangerous. About half of the fittings leaked and one still does. And I have picked up a nut or two that has fallen off. We will be contacting Rural King to see if they want to pay us to finish building it(discount it) or if they want to make things right. A set of quick connects may be in order too. Keep up the good work. I need to see what the old man should buy next.
@LotechMoe6 жыл бұрын
So after getting some time to check things out, the hoses were run exactly as they are on your splitter. None the less, I switched them around on the diverter so that it now works properly. I didn't even bother going back to RK with the issue.

I have a little tip for you. I have a similar log splitter. Take a 1'' PVC pipe around 18'' long and slide it over the lever to control forward and reverse. It makes the world of difference when your spitting by yourself. You can stop the shaft from going all the way back easier. You just barley have to tap it to stop it. You might want to give it a shot. Love your videos!!!! Keep them coming!!

Happy birthday! Once the wood is blocked out I'd let it set for a good while. Easier to split and you can really fly with a high end kinetic. I just use a cheapy DR K 10 and it slams it out. Northern Catskills, 8 cords a year

Time for a pole barn. When Melissa buys you that saw mill, you can build one big enough to store/season firewood, you could have a dry place to split on rainy days, tractor and implement storage, and you'd even have a place to set up the saw mill out of the elements.

That’s a effective wood splitter. My splitter has not as long travel in the piston so I almost always have to manually bend the log apart at one end. That gets old pretty fast, so old that I instead ordered finished firewood.

25 tons should be more than enough to split your logs as seen in the video into 4 or even more pieces of wood. Think about it, and get a mechanic build you a multiple splitting wedge, if you can't get one from the manufacturer. Doubles your output, reduces your exposure to the noise it makes. Greetings from Germany! Oh, BTW: Happy birthday Mike!!!

I see one improvement you could make Mike, and that is you could put that tote on some pallets so you don't have to bend over to place the firewood on the ground. You have a great setup. Happy birthday also Mike. My birthday and my Dad's were the 2nd of this month along with my brother the 9th. Lol.
@thanos98466 жыл бұрын
My thoughts exactly. If you have the means, build a heavy duty "table", which can be moved with the tote and at the same time by the RK. Work primarily near waist level. Wood level gets too high, put it back on the ground an march on. Save that back! Happy Birthday and nice video.

Mike the deal with the totes is less handling the wood, as you get older you will want to do this. I haul my wood tree length or pieces on forks to the splitter, once the wood is split it goes in the tote (my wood box) , then the tote goes to the drying sunny spot, then when dry the tote goes in the basement, the wood is handled to split and put in tote and then the wood is handled to put in the stove. You are fortunate to have a partner that enjoys life, can drive a tractor, shoot a gun and kick your butt at piing wood, lol.

Mike two thing... Why don't you have a four way splinter? Second I use to split wood and we had an old hay elevator that it fell into off the splinter... Onto a dumb bed trailer then dumped into the basement window opening and stacked in the basement where we had a wood oil furnace.. Now here in AK I bring out the wood in eight foot lengths and cut it later and split it by hand in the winter... We only have birch and spruce.. Splits easier... I split three days worth ahead.. That way I get out in the winter..... Great video

Next year when we move we will be using wood for our main source of heat. The wood is sourced from farmers who are clearing land and supplied from a group of volunteers who operate a very small fish hatchery. My question here is how many trees have you re planted in place of those you have cut down ??
